Now you've got me curious! I've got to get my hands on that video again
to see if I can figure out who he is. (I know if he'd been wearing a cowboy
hat and eating a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, I'd have recognized him!)

Subject: Columbia House Unopened Video for Sale
Hey Folks,
I've got an unopened copy of the Columbia House TAGS tape 'The Best of
Gomer' for sale. I had already bought this tape from another WBMUTBB
member a year or so back and have since subscribed to the series. So when
this tape came along I didn't need it (one Gomer is enough for anyone after
all) and I thought I'd offer it to our members before I went to the trouble
of having to send it back to CH. I'll be willing to sell the tape for $25,
even thought the cost amounted to slightly more after I paid shipping. The
episodes it includes are:
Gomer the House Guest
A Date for Gomer
Citizen's Arrest
Andy Saves Gomer.
This a great deal for anybody out there who likes Gomer or who has been
considering subscribing to the CH series. These videos are the absolute
best I've seen, if only the prices were alittle more reasonable. E-Mail me
if you're interested, and as Bert say's I hope i'm not being too pushy,
because the one thing I hate is a pushy salesman!

Subject: Mayberry Days
Sorry I didn't get a chance to put in my little "trip report" for
Mayberry Days sooner, but I've been trying to catch up on things here at
home since I returned. As always, I had the BEST time! This is my
fourth year attending Mayberry Days, and it gets better every year. I
got to see some friends and acquaintances from previous years, and as
usual, I got to partake some fine entertainment from the Doug Dillard
Band, Maggie Peterson-Mancuso, Michael Hoover, and others. From the
parade to the bowling tournament, Saturday was jam packed with
activities. The Neil Brower lecture was particularly interesting
because Jack Elinson (writer of such episodes as "The New Housekeeper",
"Barney and the Choir" and "Manhunt") was there to answer questions and
share insights. Dick and Bettina Linke came all the way from Hawaii to
attend Mayberry Days. Mr. Linke always has some interesting tidbits of
information to share (and what a wit!). Working at the Silent Auction
table again this year was lots of fun. You get to meet lots of people,
and you realize what a talented, artistic bunch of folks we have here.
There were some fantastic items for sale, and it all went to a great
cause, the Surry Arts Council.
I also wanted to send a special welcome to all of our new members. I
particularly wanted to welcome Jerry Caudle, owner of Specialty Gifts in
Mt. Airy. I love your store! I shop there every time I come to Mt.
Airy. It's my second-favorite place to find Mayberry merchandise (after
Weaver's, of course). (BTW, I am in no way affiliated with Specialty
Gifs or related to Jerry :-) )

Over the years I've belonged to a couple of churches in the Associate
Reformed Presbyterian denomination. Those folks often specifically
refer to the day of worship as the Sabbath. Most of those churches
are in the Mayberry region of North and South Carolina.

I've studied on that there thing too. The string could be fairly
easily rigged so that it would be pulled enough to trip the shutter
regardless of which way the door opened. Also, in those days, most
cameras had to be manually wound after each shot. So only one
picture would have been taken no matter how many times the door had
been opened.

I want to thank Alan for all the work he does to make this Digest a
pleasant place to visit each day. I just went to the site of Mayberry
Birthdays that he had suggested and found it awesome. All of the work
and research that was done is just amazing. I did feel sad as I went
down the list and came upon date after date of "decease". These people
have brought joy into MANY people's lives. So...THANK YA, THANK YA,
THANK YA!

I TRULY enjoyed Paul's theory on why it took so long to get to the
Darlings. I put my bucket right on & began to think. My hometown was
right 'cross the river from West Virginia. There is a county there named
Wetzel that has it's county seat at the farther end of the county rather
than the middle. Because of the terrain, it often takes an hour or more
to go a mere 25 miles on a "highway". So who knows just how long it
would take to go clear across the county!!Whew! I'm "thunk" out for
today.

I'm beginning to get a real reputation as a TAGS fanatic! Last night a
friend called - she was very excited and said "Andy's kissing someone on
TV!". Even though I wasn't watching it at the time (I tape them and watch
them later), I calmly said, "That must be Sharon DeSpain" and proceeded to
tell her how they had dated through high school and why they broke up. Now
my friends really know I'm crazy.

Subject: Mayberry Days 2000 at the Mount Airy Visitors Center
This is just a quick note to let all Andy Griffith and Mayberry fans
know how much I and my staff enjoyed rolling out the red Mayberry carpet
at our Visitors Center (home of the Andy Griffith Museum) for Mayberry
Days 2000! It was truly a pleasure to realize the impact that The Andy
Griffith Show has had on so many all across the state, country and out
of the country!!
I want let you in on some statistics just hot off my calculator and
computer, and believe me, these are some sizzling statistics! :
Thursday: 534 Friday: 955 Saturday: 3,466!! Sunday: 143 Grand
total: 5,098 This represented a whopping + 57% increase over 1999.
We were represented by 35 states and 6 foreign countries! Now , mind
you, these are just the numbers documented by our registers. We know
that many more did not sign or did not get by the Andy Griffith Museum.
It's really BIG!
We enjoy working with the Surry Arts Council and Tanya to make
Mayberry Days the fun and successful event that it has become! We
appreciate Allan "Floyd" Newsome, David "Barney" Browning, and Phil
"Ernest T" Lee and the parts that they played in making our Pie Eating
Contest and the Mayberry Garden Club Flower Show such a success and so
well attended.
Thank you celebrities and fans alike for choosing to spend Mayberry
Days 2000 with us in Mount Airy. And, you don't have to wait until
Mayberry Days 2001 to come back to see us! Come back soon and make it
"snappy" why don't you!!!

Not to stay too long off subject here, but "My Dog Skippy" was filmed
around my home town of Mize, Mississippi; and my darling nephew, Cody
Amason (along with dozens of other school children) was in the
film--although Cody got left on the cutting room floor. I don't understand
it.
He's as loaded with talent as his aunt is--oh, maybe I just answered my
own question.

Well, I'm just now gettin' online after returning from Mayberry Days and I
just wanted to say that I had a GREAT time! My boyfriend, Cam, went with
Theresa and me and even though he's been a TAGS fan his whole life he had no
idea about any such thing as Mayberry Days! He had a wonderful time and
he's already planning for next year's trip. It's always so nice to see
everyone again and after 4 years of Mayberry Days it really does feel like a
homecoming that weekend when everyone is together again like a big ol'
family reunion! I've got one thing to say about being a member of this TAGS
"family" ....... I'm proud!
Lotsa luck to you and yours!
