Hey, I was wondering if any of you could tell me of any episode that shows
the way up to the mayor's office?
>>>
It is never clearly established, but there are clues in a couple of
episodes. In "The Beauty Contest," we see Andy and Ellie in the mayor's
office, then a moment later we see them exit out the side door of the
courthouse. Barney also uses this side door when he goes up to and down
from the courthouse roof in "The Big House." So, from this we can deduce
that there must be stairs located off the back room of the courthouse that
lead to the mayor's office and the roof.
The courthouse also has a basement (mentioned in "The Luck of Newton
Monroe"). The steps leading down to the basement are on the outside of the
building, in the rear. They can be seen in several episodes that show
exterior shots of the courthouse.

When TAGS came to TV Land, I thought it would be a wonderful thing. I was
hoping that all of the episodes would be shown in order from 1-249. Well,
just like their predecessors, it never happened. They too show a lack of
regard for the color episodes.
>>>
They showed 2 back to back color episodes every morning at 9:00 (Central
time) for several months. I guess you must have been watching the evening
episodes only.
While we're on the subject, I never metioned this before, but I was greatly
saddened last year when I first heard that TVLand had acquired TAGS. TVLand
does have a lot of good programs, but let's face it folks, with a few
exceptions, every show TVLand carries is there because NO OTHER NETWORK
WANTS IT ANYMORE.

Besides the conflict about when they graduated high school (1945 vs 1948),
there's this discussion about Andy and Barney's war service.
>>>
It's also possible that they graduated earlier than 1945. Sure, there's a
banner at the reunion that mentions the class of '45, but they never SAY
they graduated in 1945. Many small town schools have reunions where ALL
graduates are invited, not just those from one year. Perhaps if we could
have seen the entire room, there may have been banners for the classes of
'40, '41, etc. This also explains why we see a 1948 banner in the second
reunion episode. Also, the way Andy and Barney were flipping back and forth
through the yearbook made it appear that they were looking up people from
different years, otherwise they would have been looking at only one or two
pages, right?
BTW, in real life, Andy Griffith graduated high school in 1944, and Don
Knotts in 1942. Not that this factors in to the previous discussion; I just
thought I'd mention it.

>>>I'm not dumb, I'm just ignorant. But what in the world is an etui???
Crystal M. in AL
>>>
It's a French term for a small ornamental case for holding small articles
such as needles or pins. The term is also used, sometimes, to refer to a
container of perfume.
Shakespeare used it in his play "Julius Caesar." At the end of the play,
Caesar is bludgeoned to death with an heavy jug filled with the men's
fragrance Brut (by Faberge). As he collapses in death, he sniffs the air,
then mutters the immortal line, "Etui! Brut, eh?"
On second thought, that can't be right - you know them scholars with all
their upbringing wouldn't go around talking about ladies' ornamental cases.

P.S. Ignorance is curable, but dumb is forever.

The outside entrance to the mayor's office (2nd floor of the courthouse =
building) was never shown as much as it was suggested.
Seems to me like I remember Andy and Elle coming out a side door after th=
eir
town meeting about the Founding of Mayberry and they were discussing the =
Miss
Mayberry pageant.

Hey Y'all,
I was just wondering if any of you are located around Sacramento, CA. I can
tell from the posts that most of you are on the East Coast, but maybe
there's another West Coaster in here too.
Thanks,

According to Webster's, an etui is a french word meaning holder, a
small, often decorative case, especially one for needles, toilet articles
and the like.

I think I remember Miss Ellie and Andy coming out some side door of the
courthouse after that meeting where they decide to have a beauty contest
and she's chewing him out for implying that she expects him to crown her.
Maybe that door was at the end of a staircase up to the second floor.
I've seen this type of thing in old buildings somewhere.

Hi Everyone
My kids and I just saw Shakiest Gun In The West with Don Knotts. We laughed
soooo hard. Clara Edwards was in the movie also. She played his mothers
friend. I was interested where that saying 'Done and Done' came from?
Charlene Darling said it I think in the episode where they are trying to get
Opie betrothed to Andelina, and it was said in the Shakiest Gun In The West.
I was just wondering because it is not a saying you hear anymore.

As a trained noticer, I have a question for y'all........this is a good one
for you, Paul.....In the episode #152, The Case of the Punch In The Nose,
after Andy sits Floyd and Mr. Foley down and resolves the case, we see Andy
sitting outside the courthouse reading, when Barney pulls up in the squad car
with Goober. In the background, we see what looks like the barber outside
the barbershop with a customer, but it ain't Floyd. I have stopped the tape
numerous times, and I can't make out if it's suppose to be some barber, or a
customer with the cape still on him. Can anyone answer this for me?
Thanks,
Emmett

Maybe so, Joe, but even ifn' somebody was hurt, there could be some good
that come of it. Just imagine if that girl in the car had been hit by that
rock, she might've just been lucky enough to marry the taxidermist what
sewed up her head.

Hi All,
There was also a black person in the episode where the movie producer
(Sheldon Leonard, I think) came to town and wanted to do a movie in Mayberry
and Mayor Pike authorized the town to cut down the oak tree, but Andy and the
producer didn't want that to happen. In any event, there was a black lady in
the crowd.

It's me again! I was watching the Sheriff Without A Gun episode where some
folks came to town pretending to want to do a movie about Andy, but they
really wanted to rob the bank. In this episode, Andy introduced one of the
guys to Floyd and Goober. I believe I heard him introduce Goober as "Goober
Beasley." Is that true? Why did I think Goober's last name was Pyle?
Thanks,
Tina

I can vouch for Greg - He's a very credible person. I met him at a cast
reunion the same year as the Aunt Bee Auction. He is a true Mayberrian and
I would trust him with my Martin D-18 (if I had one). He traded me some of
the items from the auction (absolutely authentic) for a tape I made at the
reunion. Don't think twice about trusting Greg. He's the cat's and keeps
his bulletin board neat.

Weas516 @ aol.com writes of show sightings of Blacks in episode #99, "Ernest
T. Bass Joins the Army", and episode #112, " Barney's Sidecar". I, also, had
such a sighting in the two townspeople crowd scenes of episode #106,
"Citizens Arrest".
>From my memory of either a magazine or television interview with Andy some
12-15 years ago, Andy, when asked about the lack of Blacks in character roles
on TAGS said that, [*] 'there were no Black characters in the show simply
because of the realities of the socio-political climate during the time that
the show was in production; and that, while the omission was a conscious one
on the part of the producers and writers, it was done to avoid public
controversy but not to be malicious nor to malign'. [ *undocumented
