You'll probably get a whole pile (pun intended) of answers on this one, but
here's my two-cents anyway. Yes, you heard right, and yes, it is Pyle. The
Beasly reference is one of those fun little inconsistencies. Sorta like
Clara Edwards/Johnson. You've obviously got a good thinkin' bucket on yore
head!
Lotsa luck to you and yours.

Hi Stacey:
I'm from Sacramento, CA. There's a slight chance that maybe I might be the
only one other than you in Sacramento. I keep looking at the newbies in TAGS
and read where they are from. I know alot of folks love TAGS from Sacramento
and I keep spreading the word of our club. There are alot of TAGS fans from
the west coast that have joined up.

I think TAGS is one of those exceptions. I have heard that TV Land
aggressively outbid WTBS and WGN for the rights to the show. I'm sure TV
Land started out as a television equivalent to "The Island of Lost Toys" but
I don't think it has evolved that way. "Charlie's Angels" is another show
that got snatched away (this time from TNT). That's why they had the
week-long marathon. "The Honeymooners" is yet another (WGN/WOR). And look at
what happened to the "unwanted" shows TV Land did get: "All in the Family"
was a runaway hit, their biggest hit ever in fact, even though no one wanted
to touch it over the last 20 years. Think of it as an opening to a new
audience. I like to think of it as "coming home."

I don't agree. If this were an open-ended reunion, the one banner the set
decorators put up in view of the camera would say so. The banner in this
case was put up so the characters wouldn't *have* to say the year over and
over. I'm sure they meant '45, no trickery or loosely worded language
involved.

In fact, that very thing happened in the premiere episode of "Mayberry RFD".
Barney was the best man, in a scene that would certainly go down in Mayberry
lore as a classic. When TV Land reran that episode over the summer it was
the first time many of us had ever seen it...

You are right on both counts. Goober was originally introduced as "Beasley",
but it was changed back to "Pyle" later. Another inconsistency.

>>>In the background, we see what looks like the barber outside the

Since Howard McNear wasn't able to walk or stand normally after his stroke,
they often used a stand-in for him in long camera shots (such as when people
ooutside looked in through the barber shop window), or scenes where Floyd
was required to drive a car. Perhaps you saw his double.
On most shows, it's standard procedure for the main cast members to have
doubles. That way, when they need to shoot a scene where the character's
face is not seen, they can just bring in the double, and the star can take a
break. Check out page 80 in the new "Mayberry Memories" book and you can
see someone who looks an awful lot like Barney Fife on the left side of the
picture; I've often wondered if that was Don's double who just happened to
accidentally get caught on film at the same time as Don. The same photo can
be seen on page 86 of "The Definitive Andy Griffith Show Reference."

Hey Elaine,
Good question. I have heard that expression all my life but have never heard
from whence it came. By the way, Brisco Darling is the one who said it in the
episode you are talking about. After the signing (with the disappearing ink),
Brisco looks at the paper and says, " There she is boys, she's done and done."
I guess I just thought it meant SUPER done as opposed to just regular done.

getting ebay after them to send merchandise I recently bought a photo of Jim
Nabors (Gomer) from them and it took 7 weeks for delivery as they promise
within ten days.

Hey Y'all,
I was just wondering if any of you are located around Sacramento, CA. I can
tell from the posts that most of you are on the East Coast, but maybe
there's another West Coaster in here too.
Thanks,
Stacey, "50sgirl"
Hi Stacey,
I'm a "left" coaster too. Just a little down south from you....guess you
could still call me a southerner (I'm originally from Tn.). I'm in San
Diego.

Hey to you and yours,
I believe Andy and Helen were married on the first episode of Mayberry R.F.D,
and I think Barney went on the honeymoon with them. Also Goober was called
Goober Beasley first then changed it to Pyle, just like Clara Edwards was
also called Clara Johnson. Thanks to all of you who gave input on the way to
the mayor's office.

Goober's last name did change. He went from Pyle to Beasley and back to Pyle.
I read that they were thinking about changing his character, but they
scrapped that idea. Also, I do remember a black guy who was the professional
football player. But, although I LOOOOVE TAGS, I really don't care for the
color episodes. Here's a trivia question for you. How many DIFFERENT girls
did Andy kiss on the show...and Barney too?

Does anybody remember Amos n' Andy? That was a real funny show. Although it
showed blacks as politicians and business owners, the black community really
raised a ruckus. It was in the early days of the civil rights protests. So,
the show was taken off the air, AND wiped out from ever being syndicated.
It's a shame because there were some great comedy moments. I think about that
each of the few times I see a black on TAGS.

Well, Emmett, I'm no Paul Mulik, but I fancy myself to be somewhat of a
trained noticer, too, so I got out my video of this episode to examine
the scene in question. You're right -- that is definitely not Floyd
coming out of the barber shop as Barney is driving up. I don't believe
it's a stand-in for Floyd, either, for two reasons: (1) He is not
wearing glasses, and (2) he does seem to be wearing some kind of plain
cape, as opposed to the button-down jacket and tie that Floyd wears. The
man near him is apparently just a passer-by because he is standing there
reading something, oblivious to the caped man, who has to push past him
in order to approach the incoming squad car. Therefore, my theory is
that he is a customer of Floyd who dashes out of the shop to see what is
going on.
Now, as I was observing all this, I noticed something else interesting.
As the squad car is pulling up to the courthouse, it appears to be
driving on the sidewalk. In other words, there is no curb or any type of
divider evident between the sidewalk and street. This means, of course,
that this part of the scene (after the camera cuts away from the long
shot) was filmed on the indoor set -- hence no curb or actual "street."
But this would never have been noticed in the pre-VCR era.
Doing a little noticin' of my own,
Janet

Etu Brute? Oh, sorry, etui.........Noah Webster calls it an ornamental case.
If you work crossword puzzles you'd know the clue is always "needle case".
At least don't get the idea that Aunt Bee was referring to THE EUROPEAN
TRADE UNION INSTITUTE (ETUI) or www.lunetui.com for eyeglass cases. Andy
must have brought Aunt Bee her etui back from France when he spent a little
time "over there during the war".
"And if'n you don't know how to speak French, we'll oblige you by waiting
til you learn." (Funny how this all wraps together WWII, France and weird
little things that ladies carry - Sandi - hope it doesn't make you clank)
