In the past couple of weeks, I've seen two different shows where Otis is
typed as his Otis-the-drunk character: one episode of Little House on the
Prairie, where he plays a drunken sheriff (also a crooked one - he takes
booze for helping crooks), and there's episode in another program where he
plays a likeable drunk. For the life of me, I can't remember it - can
anybody? And I don't mean to disparage the Otis character, honest Alan,
Otis is one of my favorite characters; I just wondered if anyone else had
ever noticed. And I love the Return to Mayberry, where Otis has quit
drinking, he's just as loveable (lovable?) in that episode.
By the way, I hope I am replying correctly. If not, Alan, if you'll tell me
one more time, I promise to put the directions somewhere where I won't
forget them. Thanks, happy new year, Mayberry Forever...

<< Hey all and Happy New Year!
Does anyone know of any Andy marathons that will be taking place on
TV? Good old TBS used to run the shows during the Super Bowl, but we
know that isn't happening anymore. Wonder if TV Land is planning
anything for us??? Anyone have a clue? >>
For those of us lucky enough to live in the Los Angeles area, local channel
KTLA is having a marathon on New Year's Day starting at 1:00 p.m. PST. (I
think this information may have already been posted.) This is really good
news for me since we don't have cable TV and I've been missing the show on
TVLand and TNT. The only time it's on here (again on KTLA) is at 4:30 and
5:00 a.m.!! Too early for me, even for Ange and the gang <g>.

I saw an episode of TAGS over Christmas I havn't seen before and it was
quite enjoyable. . . for the most mart. unfortunatly I guess Rule number 1
doesn't apply to everybody. I heard straight from the Sheriff's lips that
he just did not like Sheriff Wilson. How can we be expected to follow the
rules when the Sheriff, Justice of the Peace and over-all town Patriarch so
blatently disregards them? The unmitigated Gall! Though since it's his
first offense I guess I can overlook it this time.

Hey to all,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and here's hoping your new year is
happy and prosperous. Its a little late for Christmas carols but here's my
take on one anyway. I call it "Twelve Days of Mayberry" and, obviously
enough, its to the tune of "Twelve Days of Christmas". Its kind of silly
and some of the numbers don't exactly match but here goes:
My true love gave to me:
Twelve jars of salve,
Eleven dogs a-yappin'
Ten moldy bullets,
Nine, nines why we always gotta talk about nines?,
Eight quarts of pickles,
Seven judo lessons,
Six weeks KP,
Five septic tanks,
Four spaghetti dinners,
Three baby birds,
Two bongo drums,
And a rock that belongs to Ernest T
If anyone can think of something that fits better in one of the lines, let
me know. Again, Happy New Year to all.

Dear Jeff,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. My Father died in 1992, and my
Mother died two months ago. So I can feel for you. May God bless and comfort
you. I have read that when you lose treasured people, memories of them are
treasures. It is true. Take care, Joanne Piles

Subject: Andy and Opie
I saw the episode where everyone voted for Andy to be
the umpire at Opie's baseball game, and I was truly
touched. Opie, Goober, Floyd and almost the entire
town was angry at Andy for a bad call. After they
said he would be fair and impartial, they didn't trust
his judgement and made him feel like an outcast in his
own hometown. In this episode Howard shows his own
particular brand of wisdom, which is touching, but
also the scene where Opie comes by the courthouse to
"make up" with his Pa and never actually says he's
sorry. But good old Andy knows, and they exchange a
glance and that always touching "ruffling of the hair"
that Andy does to Opie. I wish so many times I had
had a Father (Pa) like Opie did. Also I got the
thrill of a lifetime a couple of nights ago. I was
channel surfing the other night and came upon a show
called "Jubilee". It was a concert performed in
Kentucky by none other than the "Dillard's" aka the
"Darling Boys". I only missed a couple of minutes but
got the rest on tape, they were a scream, and I
learned a lot of the background on the Dillard's. I
am so excited I have a brother who is as big of a fan
of TAGS as I am, and I will have him a copy made for
his Christmas gift next year. This year I gave him a
cassette of their music, but this video tape has a lot
more of their work, thoughts etc. on it. I hope
everyone has a wonderful and blessed New Year.
Everybody on the truck!!!! Anita in Cincinnati

Subject: Don's book & TAGS DVDs
Hey to all! I have a couple of things to mention today:
1. Unlike many folks out there, I didn't get "Mayberry Memories" for
Christmas. :-( Guess I'll just have to buy it myself! However, my
sister gave me Don Knotts' book "Barney Fife and Other Characters I Have
Known." I really enjoyed it, especially the parts about his childhood
and his early days in show business.
2. Somebody wrote in a couple weeks ago about a web site with info on
all the TAGS DVDs available. I have a question -- I don't have a DVD
player, but I have a CD ROM drive on my computer. Can I play DVDs on my
computer via the CD ROM drive? I'd appreciate it if someone could
enlighten me on this point!
Thanks,
Janet
