Now, here's a REAL tough one: What is Denver Pyle's middle name?

Denver Pyle's middle name is Dell. I like pecans. Lisa

He also played the venerable Mr. Whittaker on the radio series "Adventures
in Odyssey", if I'm not mistaken, up until his death. What a great voice!
I miss him.

"My job's making me weary. If you could move to Mayberry and take a job
there, what would it be?"

Been reading all the replies and giving this a lot of thought. Don't want
to put anyone out of a job so I've decided, I want to be the first female
deputy of Mayberry. Of course back then, I wouldn't have to capture bad
guys, just do the paperwork, answer the phone, and take care of the
occasional female prisoner so she couldn't tempt Andy & Barn. I could share
those great lunches Aunt Bee brings to the courthouse, talk to Sarah and
keep up on the gossip, help Thelma Lou keep Barney safe from Juanita and all
sorts of other little jobs. Of course, the uniform wouldn't be that great,
but the rest of the job would be a dream.

I beleive we all love Mayberry because it is a place of
poetic justice. One reaps what they sow in Mayberry. If
only the rest of the world were like that huh?

When Mayor Stoner whacks on Andy's badge with the jail key
I would've been tempted to snatch the key out of his hand
but Andy knows that HE'll be re-elected. Mayors come and
go in Mayberry.

As a member of the town councel Andy seems to be on even
terms with the Mayor - but prehaps the reason he puts up
with so much is that the Mayor can write "to the Governor"
and get Andy is "all kinds of trouble"!

Best of luck to you and yours!

Rev. Joe

I really didn't mean to 'dis (as the kids say) Hal Smith...wasn't he the
voice of Fred Flintstone's pal, "Barney"
>>>

Hal Smith played Barney Rubble only in the first few episodes of The
Flintstones, after which he was replaced by Mel Blanc. The original Fred
was Bill Thompson, replaced by Alan Reed.

Andy's son Sam Andy Griffith died a few years ago. As far as I know, his

I would want to work at the drug store and at the grocery store for a little
while like Opie did. I think that would be long enough to work, then the rest
of my life I would enjoy being a kid!

What great news about "Snappy Lunch" ! And am I the
only one that was reminded of the episode where Howard
bought Floyds building and they could not reach an
agreement on the rent? Of course they worked that out
too, Life imitating Mayberry again!

As for a job in Mayberry, I would like to work over at
the "Lang-u-ray" store.

I enjoyed reading the article about the Snappy Lunch. Seems that the ending is
happy, just like in the TAGS episodes!
Speaking of TAGS episodes, this story made me think of when Howard bought the
barber shop building and there were problems when
he raised the rent on Floyd. But that had a happy ending too!!

I guess if I was a Mayberrian, I would like to work in the school with Helen.
I mean, she was Opie's teacher for a long time,
but there had to be other teachers for the other grades! So I'd be one of the
teachers in the school. (Really, I'm a speech
therapist in a school, but a teacher is close enough. I think I'd teach
kindergarten or first grade.)

<<The epilogue of the Tina Andrews episode . . . had to be one of the
all time tear jerkers. Andy and Aunt Bee sitting on the front porch
talking about missing Barney...that scene seemed very real. >>

I thought so, too. There seemed to be a lot of genuine Andy Griffith
sentiment between the lines. When he said, "There's only one Barney
Fife," I couldn't help thinking that was a genuine tribute to Don Knotts
(with all due respect to "Warren" and the other characters who tried to
fill the gap after Don left).

The look on Aunt Bee's face before the scene faded out seemed to
express for the whole audience how much we missed Barney.

Just got through watching our new governor's
inauguration here this a.m.
Our beloved Andy was there - gave a toast to the new governor and all us
"tarheels" - It was so amazing to see him here in "real time" - he walks
a little slower but still has that warm smile that we all know. He got
quite an ovation (even more than the new governor) - He looked like he
was happy to be there. He is truly loved and admired here in N.C. Just
wanted to share with all my Mayberry friends.
Take care - Frances (who is Proud to be a Tarheel (college too!)
Also, if I had been lucky enough to shake his hand, I wouldn't wash it
either!!!!

I would love to have Floyd's job (sorry Allan!!). Does something he
loves, visits his friends all day, in slow times sits in front of his
shop and passes the time with passers-by. Only in Mayberry. You think
Mayberry is ready for a female barber by this time?
Also, I'm assuming Andy's health is better since he's taking part in the
inauguration. Anyone have an update? If this has been covered alot, so
sorry, I've been out of the Maybery loop.

Subject: My job

I guess if I lived in Mayberry I would be the assistant gas station
attendant. I probably know as much about cars as Gomer did in the early days.
Just remember that air and water are free, but we do make a charge for gas
and oil, then defer all mechanical issues to Wally. This job seems to provide
enough spare time to hang out at the diner, courthouse and barber shop. Plus
I would be available to be a part time deputy in case of emergency, flood or
natural disaster.

AND TAKE THAT GUN OUTTA YOUR MOUTH!

What a great question! "What job would you do if you moved to Mayberry?"
First off, an earlier post refered to Olive and then another poster said
she was confusing her with Juanita. I don't think she was confused...
Unlike 'Nita, Olive WAS seen! She told Barney, after taking his huge
breakfast order, that "it did her heart good to see a thin man eat". I
myself, would also love to work at the diner. What better way to keep up
on all the events and gossip of the day? Listening in on Juanita's phone
calls, making deliveries to the courthouse, counting how many times
Goober comes in to eat and just serving all that 'delish' food! And in
Mayberry, I know I would never be working on Christmas, Thanksgiving,
New Years or Easter! And I would feel safe on account of Barney's
'security checks'!

Glad to hear 'bout the Snappy Lunch. We have friends getting ready to move
to
Salisbury, NC, so winging by Mt. Airy for a pork chop "sammich" will be in
our
future, I'm sure, when we go to visit them.
If I was to choose a job in Mayberry, I think I would be the replacement
manicurist for Ellen Brown when she went back to Pierre. I know Emma took
it,
but she's rather "sickly" and could use a break herself.
