Subject: Tracy Ruppert

I happen to catch an episode
this afternoon and there was
a reference made of a "Tracy Ruppert". I will not mention
the episode or who happen to
mention Tracy, I want to see just how good you all are on
trivia.
That's the episode where Andy and Barney are in charge of selling the old
cannon. Andy decides to do a little "horse trading" and makes up the story
about the initials--T.R.--on the cannon as being put there by Teddy Roosevelt
after charging up San Juan Hill. Barney pulls him aside, agast, and
says--"Teddy Roosevelt! You know they's put there by Tracy Ruppert!" Great
scene.
I always liked how Andy was caught by Opie in that episode telling a lie
after
Andy had got all over him for lieing about those licorice seeds and then
making up the story about the button being from Gen. Washington's coat.
Tells
all us parents to make sure we live by the rules we try to teach our children
to live by.

Subject: The Later Episodes

Oh, we all fuss about the color episodes, but when one comes one do we
refuse to watch it? Nay, I tell you! Once that theme song starts, we ain't
goin' no where. So we sit right there and watch that thang. And what do we
see?

The kitchen door and a "standard" back porch that appears in several
episodes, the development of Goober's character, the successful introduction
of a major character (Howard) that seems not to really fit Mayberry yet he
does, the true color of Opie's hair, some very well written episodes even
though they don't have Barney in the cast, more dependence on Andy for
physical comedy.......

I guess my point is that we do the last 3 years of the show an injustice by
constantly comparing them to the first 5. Try treating it like there were
actually 2 TAGS. There is much to be enjoyed in the color shows.

Dear fellow Mayberrians: Could you please tell me which of the cast members
of TAGS have died and what was the cause of death. >>>

That topic is perhaps a bit broad to answer in one paragraph, but here
is a list of the main cast members who have gone to their reward:

Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee)
Howard McNear (Floyd)
Aneta Corsaut (Helen)
Jack Dodson (Howard Sprague)
Hal Smith (Otis)
Hope Summers (Clara)
Paul Hartman (Emmett Clark)
Denver Pyle (Briscoe)
Olan Soule (John Masters)
Dick Elliot (Mayor Pike)
Jack Prince (Rafe Hollister et al)

Still with us are Andy Griffith, Ron Howard, Don Knotts, Jim Nabors,
George Lindsey, Betty Lynn, Howard Morris, all 4 of The Dillards, Maggie
Peterson, Jack Burns, Parley Baer and Elinor Donahue.

Hey, that's a swell idea! Like if there's a tooth dentist in town, folks

>>>I've been searching for an authentic reproduction of Andy's or Barney's
Badge, as well as a Blue/Gold Mayberry Sheriff Shoulder Patch. Weaver's
offers both of these items, however, while nice, the badge is not a true
reproduction & the should patch is Brown/Gold. Would also love to get a
reproduction of Barney's Cap Badge.

You might try contacting Jim Post at The Lost Precinct (a police muesum) in
Eureka Springs, AR. I don't have the number handy, but you can call
information or check any of the numerous web sites for Eureka Springs
tourist attractions. Jim can put you in touch with someone who can
duplicate any patch or badge. Expect to pay about $100 for a top-quality
badge.

Be warned though, that many police officers do not approve of civilians
collecting police memorabilia. You'll have to make it perfectly clear that
you intend to use them only for novelty purposes. I used to be in their
club, The Police Car Owners of America, and they always gave me the cold
shoulder since I am not a police officer and I drive a "fake" police car.

Hi, y'all--
I recently watched on TV Land an episode where Helen writes a book. All the
townspeople were excited for Andy because he was engaged to a "famous
writer." But I can't remember the episode where Helen and Andy actually
became engaged. Is there one, or did they just slip it in on us? Can anyone
help me? Thanks!!

TAGS fans,
If Andy was dating Alice Harper ten years before (according to Howard,
and he seems a truthful person), then Opie would have only been about two
at the time. Might Andy's wife have died in childbirth? I know the pilot
mentions her dying, but it doesn't mention how, does it?

hey, does mayberry have a high school basketball
coach/health teacher? I think I may have found
my niche. I could correspond with The Barn
on safety issues. I could invite Ellie as a
guest speaker, maybe even take her to lunch
in the cafeteria... maybe the diner if she and
Ange were on the outs. What a ball team we
could have. I believe that Taylor could help us.
I think he's gonna be a tall kid. Not sure
about his foot speed though. As for this years
group, there not very good, but they sure
do work hard. Can't ask for much more than
that.

Now don't y'all conk me over the head for saying this, cause it's only
my opinion, BUT:

I think that for those like Steve who only like the B&W episodes, I
classify them as fans of Barney Fife, and perhaps more laughs. However,
those who love the color shows as well as the B&W, well in my opinion,
they are fans of Mayberry. I think that people who buy off on the
concept of Mayberry itself will enjoy the whole run of the series as I
and many others do.

This may be one for Paul or Allan to answer, as we
have been picking out jobs in Mayberry the past few
days, several have mentioned the Diner and Olive and
Juanita, I have always been under the impression that
they worked at two different diners, Juanita worked at
"The Blue Bird Cafe", which for some reason I always
pictured as being out of town say on the highway or on
the way out of Mayberry, and Olive worked at the
"diner" which was downtown where everybody ate lunch
or had coffee after the movie.

to find out what everybody is saying about Myra Knootz)

Well,

Its me its me, its the guy who shot his mouth off about the problems with the
color episodes , (in particular the "Howard" factor. After being corrected
by several posters I feel as I have just spent "5 minutes behind the barn."

Again, I am in awe of your knowledge, mine seems to stop the moment the color
episodes began.

Everyone keeps talking about the rules, what are they?
Is the first one "Obey all rules!"? Sorry if i have broken any.

P.S. Are there any other Nay-sayers on the subject of color Andy shows. Did
anyone ever see an episode of "The New Andy Griffith Show." And what about
"RFD" are there any who know the trivia on it.

Hey, does anyone know if Mayberry had a fire departmant? I remember the barn
fire, so maybe it was a volenteer deal. If not I would like to be Fire Chief.
