Someone asked about a spinoff from Gomer Pyle, USMC, and the closest I can
think of, maybe a continuation, is the Jim Nabors (Show/Hour), which was a
variety show. It also starred Ronnie Schell, who played an always inebriated
Airline Pilot. Of course, he never flew a plane, but he did fly!! Sounds as
if they incorporated their own version of Otis into the show!
Anyone who hasn't made reservations for Mayberry Days this year better do so
right now, or as Will Stockdale would say, Rat now! It may already be too
late for hotel reservations in Mt Airy, but Winston-Salem and Hillsville Va
are about equally distant from Mayberry, about 35 miles or so.
One more item - theCameraNut got a digital for Christmas so now I will have
another means to take photos!! Yahoo!!

Did anyone in the Mayberry Digest get to Arab last night
(Saturday 20th) to see George "Goober" Lindsey and
Ralph Emery. Some from "I'm In It For Keeps" chapter
went and we had a good time, just wish "Goob" could
have told more funny stories, but he and Mr. Emery
were pushed for time, they had to drive back to Nashville.

in the episode where aunt bee learns to drive, andy and floyd are talking
outside the barber shop and andy is explaining about aunt bee learning to
drive......floyd asks if he is teaching her how to drive and andy replies
"nope. can't teach a relative how to drive". does anyone have any idea why a
sheriff could not teach a relative to drive, i mean, andy was not the one
giving the driver's test, so why couldnt he do that?

see, this is what goes through my mind when the bucket comes out!
                                            thanks, jason

Hi. The show you were thinking of is Angel in My Pocket, when Andy costarred
with Lee Merriweather. He was a minister who was offered a church in a small
town. His wife's mother and brother lived with them. The church blew up
because the sexton and brother-in-law, who was Jerry VanDyke, were making
moonshine in the church basement. Loved the movie, wish it showed more
often. Best wishes from Mrs. Darling in Fla (freezing!)

>>>I'm guessing Jim Nabors, since he has such a fine voice..... I've never
heard the particular song (or any of their songs) though, so I can only
guess. I remember them (Rockapella) from Carmen Sandiego, though!

>>>

Exactilioso! The song is "Indiana." About halfway through the song, there
are some sound effects from the Indy 500, including an announcer saying, ".
. . now here's Jim Nabors accompanied by the (something) University Marching
Band, singing 'Back Home Again in Indiana.' " Right after that is a snippet
of Jim singing the first line.

You can download this song (and about 1,000,000 others) from Napster, the
second-coolest web site on the Internet (after eBay!)

    Hello Alan,

Just wanted to drop everyone a note and tell them that Goober (George Lindsey)
was really good last night. Was expecting to see you with it being so close to
you, but never did. I got a hug from Goober and he said that he would
defiently be in Nashville for the 2 shows in June, he said that he had
received confrimation Sat before coming to Arab that he was on the line up.

Hope to see you all in Nashville.

Saw a Gomer episode that was copied from TAGS. Sgt. Carter save Gomer's
life on the grenade range and Gomer drives him crazy trying to take care of
him. Finally decides, as Andy does, the only way out is to let Gomer save
his life. The remainder of the show is almost identical. Carter uses an
open gas value and pretends to be passed out; Gomer passes out trying to
help; Carter has to save Gomer again; once outside, Carter acts like it was
really Gomer who save him.

Funny, since this was the 2nd time this had happened to him, you'd think he
would have mentioned it.

Hey, everybody! This is my first time. I enjoy reading the digest every
day. And here I thought I was the Biggest Andy fan!
Anyway, I remember in one episode, I believe it was the first episode that
the Darlings showed up. I think one of the boys said, Thank you to Aunt Bee
for bringing them the white beans. But as Andy says,"Eatin' speaks louder
than words". That's a very famous saying. I have a little bit of trivia.
It's probably too easy for you all though. Does anyone know what happened
to Brisco Darling's wife's first husband?

<<So, can anyone remember any other episodes where the boys supposedly said
something and someone else tells us that they said something but we never
actually hear it? >>

Well, we all know what a hard time Briscoe has trying to keep the boys from
yellin' at the table. "Taters!!!"
