Another hillarious line in that one is when Aunt Bee calls Andy and Opie on
the day she is to return. Andy takes the phone call, says "Long distance -
Must be Aunt Bee, calling from Mt. Pilot" Cut to her, she SHOUTS (long
distance, you know) "Hello, this is Aunt Bee, Calling from Mt. Pilot"
Andy then turns to Opie and says "It's Aunt Bee, Calling from Mt. Pilot"

There's one for the triples list.

I too noticed much more detail left in on this edit of the show, including
more of the Opie bedroom cleaning. Couldn't tell what was cut to fit it
in, either.

I always wonder why the boys didn't have Post Toasties, at least one
morning. A lot less pans required than when you "whomp up a batch of
baconandeggs" Sounds like one word when Ange says it too.

Also caught the epilogue only, from the early episode. Barney and Thel on
the couch - just an amazing bit of comedy. Barney trying to "ummm, Ummm"
signal Ange with his eyes to help Helen in the kitchen with desert, and
then trying to sneak him a "little kissy" when he and Thel were alone and
Andy kept popping back in just as he was going to make contact. "Coffee?"
"Cream and Sugar", "Apple Pie?" 'Want cheese on it?" HAH! The look on
Thelma Lou's face was great. I hadn't seen that one in many years.

Paul, I didn't mean to imply that Jim Nabors was unfriendly or
ungracious. He was just the opposite onstage and visiting offstage. The
Disney officials told us we could only visit him backstage if it was
approved by his manager, which they attempted to secure for us when they
took the certificate to him. But his manager felt he needed more rest
inbetween performances and nixed the visit. We were certainly
disappointed but surely understood. On another note, the time when Andy,
Barney and Sheldon Leonard were at MGM, Mr. Leonard made a wonderful
statement concerning the longevity of TAGS. He said "I don't think
you'll see reruns of Roseanne 30 years from now!" Many echoed our
sentiments with a hearty AMEN!!!

Subject: Not really Clara

Hi Gang....

Mary from Georgia was talking about the episode that was on the other
night where Andy and Opie "batched" it while aunt Bee was gone for a
couple of days, made a mess of the house, cleaned it up, messed it again
so Bee would feel wanted and when they got home they found it had all
been cleaned again. Well Mary it wasn't Clara who cleaned it, it was
Bertha. They changed her name in later episodes to Clara for some
reason, probably so she could "rig" the county fair's pickle contest.

Another thing I always find fun about TAGS are the different mannerisms
in the acting of andy and barney. For example, I always think its
priceless the way andy grabs ahold of his mouth to keep from laughing
when barney is way out in left field with something he thinks is
serious, like the other night when he was trying to tell andy that Ellie
like him and not andy. What are some of the other mannerism's that you
have noticed that you found were catchy?

"Hello Floyd who's in the chair? Well get rid of them cause I'm coming
over and I'm ready for action...."

Yeah, April, I have noticed this too! And from the discussions here at the
Digest, so have others. Tonight I watched the episode where Opie has a new
friend named Trey Bowden. In the scene where Andy takes Trey on "lake
patrol", Andy gets in first and slides over to the driver's side and then
Trey gets in.
By the way, that is another terrific episode!

Hey Dawn, there was one reference to basketball...remember that way back
before Opie's time, Clara and Aunt Bee played on their high school team.
I always thougt that was the strangest thing.

Hey all,
I watched the episode "Andy and Opie, Housekeepers" the other night and a
couple of lines caught my attention. Both involved Aunt Bee's instructions
to Andy and Opie as she was preparing to leave for Mount Pilot. First, why
did she tell Opie to wash his hands AFTER every meal. Before the meals
would make more sense. Or did I just hear her wrong? Secondly, she told
the boys to eat three vegetables every day, two green and one yellow. What
is a yellow vegetable. Squash is the only one I can think of right off.
Now the green ones shouldn't be any problem what with all those kerosene
cucumbers in the cupboard. Well, I'd better go now, my two year old has her
toys scattered all over the floor and I'd better get them picked up before
her mother gets home...only lets not do it right now.

Hey You All,

I watched Andy tonight and it was a really good one. You know the time the
Womens Historical Society gives Otis a plack for being the desendent of
Nathan Tibbs..Of course Ol Barn thinks he is the lucky duck...

I thought it was totally neat that Andy trusted Otis to come and get the
award and didnt hire a fake Otis. Barney in the end sees how Andy was right
in letting Otis himself pick-up his plack. "My shoes were too tight from
shopping with the little woman though"

Hello:
In response to Becky and the episode where Aunt Bee leaves for 2 days, my wife
has gone on business trips for a few days on several occasions and she always
asks me to keep the house clean and then I always refer to this episode, and
her response is always "I won't cry at all if the house is clean, go ahead and
show me that you don't need me"
It always brings a laugh everytime.

A friend from the country sent me this. It is pretty
funny. Sounds like something Ernest T. himself might pen!

Ode to a Luv'd One
By Yore Romeo

Collards is green,
my dog's name is Blue
and I'm so lucky
to have a sweet thang like you.

Yore hair is like cornsilk
a-flapping in the breeze.
Softer than Blue's
and without all them fleas.

You move like the bass,
which excite me in May.
You ain't got no scales
but I luv you anyway.

Yore as satisfy'n as okry
jist a-fry'n in the pan.
Yo're as fragrant as "snuff"
right out of the can.

You have some'a yore teeth,
for which I am proud;
I hold my head high
when we're in a crowd.

On special occasions,
when you shave under yore arms,
well, I'm in hawg heaven,
and awed by yore charms.

Still them fellers at work,
they all want to know,
what I did to deserve
such a purdy, young doe.

Like a good roll of duct tape
yore there fer yore man,
to patch up life's troubles
and fix what you can.

Yore as cute as a junebug
a-buzzin' overhead.
You ain't mean like those far ants
I found in my bed.

Cut from the best cloth
like a plaid flannel shirt,
you spark up my life
more than a fresh load of dirt .

When you hold me real tight
like a padded gunrack,
my life is complete;
Ain't nuttin' I lack.

Yore complexion, it's perfection,
like the best vinyl sidin'.
despite all the years,
yore age, it keeps hidin'.

Me 'n' you's like a Moon Pie
with a RC cold drank,
we go together
like a skunk goes with stank.

Some men, they buy chocolate
for Valentine's Day;
They git it at Wal-Mart,
it's romantic that way.

Some men git roses
on that special day
from the cooler at Kroger.
"That's impressive," I say.

Some men buy fine diamonds
from a flea market booth.
"Diamonds are forever,"
they explain, suave and couth.

But for this man, honey,
these jest won't do.
Cause yo're too special,
you sweet thang you.

I got you a gift,
without taste nor odor,
more useful than diamonds......
IT'S A NEW TROLL'N MOTOR!!

Luv, from yore romeo.

(NOTE FROM ALLAN: I don't want to encourage folks to forward things along to
the Digest but since I hadn't said that and this one DID have a little bit of
a Mayberry feel I let it go through. In general, let's be sure that we keep
our messages on the Mayberry topic. I'm mentioning this because there have
been a few political and other type posts that I've not let through in the
last few days and I just wanted to remind folks that this is a list for
Mayberry talk. Just a reminder before there's an issue. Thanks for
understanding. -Allan)

Has anyone mentioned that Bee and Clara played basketball together at Sweet
Briar Normal School? Clara was the best dribbler. (This brilliant piece of
trivia is right out of my left-brain file pocket so I may have something
backards - let me know).

Here's another trivia question for all you trained noticers out there.
What is the only episode where Tom Jacobs (a.k.a. Johnny Koons the most
seen "extra" in all of TAGS along with Mr. Schwamp) is verbally referred
to by name? I hope the trivia gurus have to at least put a bucket on
their head for this one.

Subject: Doctor! Doctor!

For a small town, Mayberry sure seemed to have more than its share of
doctors, whether the medical or professional (PHD) type. Who can name the
various doctors in and around, or who visited Mayberry?

Name the doctor who:

* Told Aunt Bee, "We're no Spring chickens anymore!"
* Giggled with Miss Ellie in the back room of the drugstore
* Tried to computerize Goober's love life
* Introduced Barney to his uvula
* Gave Opie his first slap
* Took a look at Dolly, the milk horse
* Didn't recognize Goober's neck/back injury as psychosomatic
* Fixed up Andy's hand after his scuffle with the Gordon boys
* Shouldn't be called upon to carve the Thanksgiving turkey
* Got the whole town in an uproar about putting on a band concert
* Was the subject of Opie's Most Unforgettable Character (rewrite)
* Got a visit from Otis's mother-in-law after the leg of lamb incident
* Outfitted Asa Bascomb with his neck harness

Please feel free to give clues to other doctors who appeared in Mayberry,
'cause I'd like to play too! :-)
