That has to be one of my favorites! I told my darling person after the show that I was going to let him in on a little secret--My feelings wouldn't be hurt one bit if I came home to a clean house! Anyway, I had never seen the scene with Opie making up his bed with his friend Jimmy. But I liked his quote,"Cleaning up your room can be FUN". I especially like the part where Andy had Opie go next door to borrow some dishes. Something else--When Opie put the apron on. I remember when I was a little girl and I used to help my mother in the kitchen, I had to wear the apron up under my arms so it wouldn't drag the ground. "We gotta sweep and mop and pick up and dust. Only let's not do it right now." I finally had the privilege of accidently running across the movie "No Time For Sergeants" last night on American Movie Classics (AMC). It was already 45 minutes or so into it but I watched what I could in between bathing kids and such. I was kinda upset that I didn't know about it sooner so I started checking and found out it was coming back on at 11:30et so I recorded it and plan to watch every minute today. I will say this, what I did see last night was gooooooood. Andy was funny as ever. In response to the person who asked about production flubs that can be seen on the show...if you look towards the area where the ceiling should be you can sometimes see that there isn't one there and you can see the top edge of the wall and production stuff behind it. These glimpses are quick so you have to be looking though. Later, Jacob in Jackson, TN "Nip it! What was fascinating is that he didn't seem to have any accent a'tall in Bonanza. Does anyone know if he really did have a Southern accent or not? >>> I got to meet Denver a few times during the last couple of years of his life (he died on Christmas Day, 1997), and he didn't have any noticeable accent then. As Andy once said about Gregory Peck, "That's the actor of the man." BTW, he was originally from Colorado. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 09:46:11 -0600 From: Paul Mulik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: church >>>...could it be that we don't see Thelma Lou in church because she works in the nursery? We know she's a good woman, and maybe she goes to keep the babies in the nursery during church!?! Just a thought... bye - Lisa >>> I'll bet you've hit the nail right on the head! We don't ever see any babies in the church services either. There's probably a nursery in the basement. - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 09:54:41 -0600 From: Paul Mulik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Hawthorne Village: Mayberry Collection >>>Subject: hawthorn prices I ran accross the taylor home on EBAY and saw the current bid was a whopping $102.00! Does anyone know what these pieces are going for? >>> That price is not unrealistic at all; some of the pieces have gone for much more in the past. The most desirable (that is, most expensive) piece is the courthouse, which I have seen go for over $400. Other highly desirable pieces are Barney and his motorcycle, the squad car, and Andy and the "welcome" sign. When these first came out about five years ago, I did not buy the entire set, since some of the buildings are very generic, bearing little resemblance to the "real" buildings on the show. However, I do wish I'd bought the school bus. Anybody have one to sell or trade? - --Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 16:13:36 -0000 From: "Doug & Maria Largent" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: How to cast "The Wandering Minstrel" Someone asked who they would cast in the role of "The Wandering Minstrel," Harvey Bullock's unfilmed script. That person offered Buddy Epson. As I said before, I pictured the character as a black man. Though I realize that if filmed they wouldn't have cast a black man, to me it fits. I picture a man alot like the black fellow that Andy plays guitar with on Matlock. I don't know that man's name. Gray beard, overalls, with old suit jacket, floppy hat. Seems to fit. Hey Gang: I was watching the Andy show yesterday about where Aunt Bee gets a phone call from Edgar, and wants her to come help Maude because she slept with the window open and she got the versidis in her neck. Andy and Opie were on their own for a few days, Boy they did they ever live it up. Clara came by and cleaned up everything while Andy went to the bus stop to pick up Aunt Bee. It was so funny when Andy returned and found it so clean. "Opie you keep-a- goin" Tryin to dirty it back up again. Well I think i will be going , "Maybe i better stay here" Well if your sure. I be back in a few days. "Oh you poor boys" Bye! Bye Aunt Bee! Bye! BYE! I received a letter today from Columbia House announcing that new episodes HAVE been added. I phoned customer service and was told that another ten videos are being added to the series, the first of which will be shipped on Feb. 28th (to existing account holders). For those of you who haven't purchased any of the original ten, I can tell you that each video contains four complete episodes (including epilogues) and that the quality is very good. You can phone Columbia House's customer service at 1-800-457-0866 to sign up or to get more information. When Andy is talking to Opie in his bedroom, there appears to be a toy (I assume) pistol on the night stand. Now before anybody gets all hot up, let me say that, growing up in NC near 'bout the same time Opie did, it was quite normal to play with guns. Maybe I've become too politically correct over the years (yeah, right), but I just thought it was kind of ironic to use that prop in that particular episode. Don G. (...looking for my tweezers so I can go tiger hunting...) (NOTE FROM ALLAN: Jan and I saw that the other night. It sure did look like a gun laying there. I'm sure you're right that it was a toy but it looked, in the glancing view that I had, like a semi-automatic pistol to me? But like I say...I'm not a trained lawman like Barney so I'm not trained to see details when I see a gun or a boy on a bike.) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 12:26:26 -0600 From: Keith Miles <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: The word s** and Bluegrass Hi gang: I wrote in last week and asked if anybody remembered how many times the word "sex" was spoken in TAGS. Paul M. replied with two episodes--"Ellie for Council" and "Opie and Mike". I'm only aware of one other that was on TVLand just recently..."The Wedding", where Howard's mother gets married and moves to Mount Pilot, leaving Howard to decorate his new "bachelor pad". For the first party, Howard and Goober both struck out multiple times in finding dates and when Andy and Helen arrive, Andy asks where the other girls are. Howard replies, "Helen will be the only member of the opposite sex represented here tonight." There might be one or two other references in the series somewhere, but thankfully, they're all in reference to gender, rather than what seems to be the principal subject of most every show these days! On another note, does anybody know what The Country Boys, who appeared in the Mayberry on Record episode in the first season weren't used when they cast the Darling Family in season #3? It looked like they would have made a fine Darling Family, and I'm surprised they weren't asked back when that episode was being cast...not that I don't like the Dillards, but I find it kinda curious, particularly, since the Country Boys are also included on "The Andy Griffith Show" album (just recently re-released on CD). Keith in Nebraska Andy (at Howard's party): My gosh, look at the time, it's nearly 9 o'clock...we better be going...Helen's got school tomorrow. Howard: Andy, tomorrow's Sunday. Andy: Sunday School! Helen: You know, church! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 15:11:34 -0500 From: "GRITTON, JOE A. (AIT)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Pickups and Splashes from Floor and Pool Hey Mayberryites Seeing the charming Morrison sisters in "Alcohol and Old Lace' reminds me of a question I've had for a while but hasn't been answered. Charity Grace and Gladys Hurburt played the Morrison sisters (if I got the credits right) Aren't these ladies the voices of the Mendlebright sisters who are not seen, but heard on "Man in a Hurry" talking on the telephone about feet falling asleep etc. (preventing Malcom Tucker from making a call??) I wonder what causes that? Regarding Steve and Dawn's discussion, about basketball (or lack there-of) in Mayberry. I was one who mentioned it a while back. This was one of three voids (Opie's Mom, more Christmas Episodes, Basketball) that I tried to address with a Fan Fiction-- story. I like to call these Lost Episodes but I didn't realize until recently there was a real Lost Episode from esteemed writer Harvey Bullock. In any case, if you would like to read one fan-writers opinion of how Basketball might have played out in Mayberry...check out "Basketball Regional or Bust" at http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/fanfiction.htm I think you'll be surprised!
