Subject: Modern-Day vs Mayberry
Hello everyone! I enjoyed the question posed about Mayberry vs the modern
conviences "and" problems we have today. I would definently choose Mayberry
because every time I watch "Mountain Family Robinson" I always wish I could
live that way! And anyone that has watched that movie knows that family
didn't have 1/4 of the conviences that Mayberry does. The only thing I might
have a problem with in Mayberry is the fact that fast food joints weren't
very popular at that time and even if I had been born back then I still think
I wouldn't enjoy cooking. :) I can see myself getting tired of "beans and
taters" really fast.

Those of you who may get "Cool Today," the Internet Movie Database email
newsletter, may have noticed last Friday's Movie/TV quote of the day. This
time it wasn't from some hip cult movie or a current blockbuster...it was
from TAGS! Specifically, it was our beloved Deputy Fife, saying his classic
line...

Yes, the DVD's DO have the epilogues.
That's a very good part of the DVD's. However, the change in the opening
music is VERY tough for me. Plus if you notice, there are only certain
episodes that are allowed to be put on DVD. Many of them have the same
episodes but just in differnt orders. I'm waiting for all the legal junk to
get situated before I buy any
more. Till then i'll stick to my 1 million vhs taped episodes from over the
years.

Another thing I remember from growing up in a "Mayberry" sort of town in
Missouri. Everyone watched out for the little old people out driving on the
roads and every one watched out for the little kids out playing along the
sidewalks and streets. I remember my brother (with Down's Syndrome) out on
his daily runs. All the town watched for him and reported back to my Mom to
make sure he ran the whole way (he was in his training runs for Special
Olympics). And that hasn't been that many years ago ;)

It has a pretty complete list of all the TAGS DVD's available
There are really only two DVD's worth getting since between them both they
contain all 16
episodes that ever fell into public domain that one time. And thats the ones
by Sterling Entertainment.
If you cant find them on Ebay I had no problem buying them brand new from
Amazon for 10 or 11 dollars
a piece plus shipping. Chad's site even has links to amazon to make it easy
for ya.

Yes the Sterling Entertainment DVD's are complete with epilogues
I can't tell you about any of the others since thats the only ones I have.
The dvd's also have some extras like some recipies, trivia and an art
gallery
but dont expect to much, the extras are slightly skimpy.
The real thrill for me is just being able to go over each episode in minute
detail and
getting to notice things I'd never got the time to see just watching them on
TV.

The thing about Mayberry is the idea
of such a perfect place to live. But then people like Rev Joe come along
with just enough reality to make us realize that Mayberry only exists in our
minds. I too have lived in a small town in the middle of the Mark Twain
national forest in Ozark County, MO. (1993-1996) Everybody knew our
business because we still had PARTY LINES. We had to be on a waiting list
to get a private line. We lived there for 2 years and never got to the top
of the list. I prefer Mayberry in my mind and living in the real
world. I try to make my little corner of the world as much like Mayberry
as I possibly can. We all can do this.

Living in Mayberry responses made me remember last summer when my grandson
was visiting. He was bored after dinner and I was running out of entertaining
ideas. I gave him and his friends some old jelly jars with lids and told them
to go gather lighting bugs. It took a lot of convincing that this might be a
fun idea. Watching the boys have a good time doing something that was a part
of my summer entertainment was so enjoyable but I also felt sad for them
because they lacked the imagination that the children of small town yesterday
had. I would live in Mayberry without a doubt and have my grandchildren there

I would happily claim Mayberry as my hometown. I've watched the Andy
