Subject: TAGS Trivia Game & Need ofr more Questions

Just received my copy of TAGS trivia game the other
day, and love it. I had a limited edition game, but
did not open it. This one I just got, I have opened
it. It is great. For all of those who don't have it,
I'd like to suggest you purchase one at your local
neighborhood Weaver's Department Store or your local
"Bullet".

My question is, does anyone know if there are any
plans on addin' more questions to the game. Me & my
wife played it four times the first night and I've got
a feelin' I'm gonna run out of questions real quick.

Does anyone know a good TAGS chat room? I've tried the one for Sarah's
Die-hard fans, but I can never get through to that one. Not that I don't
love this digest, you understand ... but it would be fun to be in a chat
room while the marathon is going on.

What is this SimCity? I'm excited. And are DVDs like CDs that you can
play on your computer? I'm not up on technology as you can see and I
really appreciate you younger folks' advice. Meanwhile, does anyone have
a recipe for cashew fudge for the marathon? Or do you just put chopped
cashews instead of pecans in regular fudge?

Hey Guys--

Thanks for the further list of suggestions for all the supplies I need
in preparation for the marathon this weekend, and for the posting of the
episode schedule! I see that at 2pm my good friend Jimmy Best will be
on playing his Jim Lindsey style of guitar. And yes, I now have the
pickles from the store for the 9pm saturday episode. I even bought some
fuzzed up peaches. I also made sure the cable bill was paid, LOL and
thought about calling the mayberry cafe up in danville to see if they
would cater me in a boiled dinner, and if anybody comes knocking on the
door and distracts the proceedings they will be placed under citizens
arrest at 11pm. Only thing that I WON'T have in stock will be spirits
because one loaded goat in this town is enough. Oh, and I've decided to
go ahead and invite Gomer, since with the mess i'm bound to make he can
run the sweeper in the middle of the night and help keep me awake to see
the convicts dance with Al at 3am.

Oh, and Paul, the only pinball machine name I can remember whenever I
played was TILT, LOL

I, too, grew up in a small town and fortunately experienced most of what
has been listed so far. I would go back in a heartbeat. Here's one my
mom told me about when she was growing up. She said that on Saturdays
the family dressed up and went to town for an all day affair. She said
that when my grandmother and her four younguns got tired they would sit
in a stranger's car until they were rested then they would go on about
their business. Can you imagine that happening now?

Hi Everybody down home,
Was channel surfing the other night and saw a program on "Burlesque" and
I know that a lot of people will not believe this but I used to go to
the shows just to see the comics, years ago. Well anyway, who do you
suppose I happened to see among the comic acts doing a funny bit with
umbrellas ? Yep, Barnie and Andy ! It was a silent bit, only five
minutes or so, but very funny. I think it was on the history channel but
am not certain. Just never knew that they did vaudeville skits way back.
Anybody know how long these two great comedians have been together ?
Well, love to all the folks in town,

Subject: Modern-day Mayberry

Thought I'd get my two cents worth in on the "modern-day Mayberry"
question. A couple of folks have pointed out that there are also a lot
of negative aspects of small-town life. Human nature being what it is,
there will be problems wherever you go. However, as one who grew up in
the country near small towns and who presently lives in a small town, I
believe the positives far outweigh the negatives. One of the things
mentioned early on (by Allan, I think) was going into a store and getting
personal attention. This reminded me of my home town of Coal City,
Indiana (like Mayberry, only much smaller!). When I was a little girl,
my mother shopped at Herb Reagan's grocery store. It was housed in a
nineteenth-century, two-story brick building with wood plank flooring and
very high ceilings. If memory serves, it only had three aisles! But
what I remember most is Mr. Reagan himself. He was like Barney -- kind
behind the eyes -- and always wore a warm, friendly smile. He must have
had a special fondness for kids because whenever I would come in with my
mom, he would sneak up behind me and slip a couple of penny candies into
my hand. To me, at the time, that was a big deal, and I've never
forgotten it! To me, Herb Reagan represents the Mayberry ideal of
small-town life.

Now, folks, if you really want to visit a modern-day Mayberry, you should
check out the "Mayberry of the Midwest," Clay City, Indiana. Clay City
is my "other" home town. It's a little closer in size to our TV Mayberry
and has retained many Mayberry-like qualities. There are lots of fine,
friendly people, and a real sense of community exists between them. So
if you're ever in the southcentral part of Indiana, drop on by. They
even have a visitors' center and a web site (www.claycity.net).

I think David has a very good point. If you consider Platonic Realism,
then Mayberry is the essence of a small town, and only those Philosopher
Kings out there are lucky enough to grasp the true nature of "Mayberryness."
For myself, I think I'll just keep trying to achieve the ideal until I get
as close as I can.

Best regards

We don't get TV Land, but I am driving 8 hours to stay with my parents so I
can watch the Andy Griffith Show this weekend. Can someone please tell me
which episode has the song "Oh My Barney;" the one you all have been talking
about. I do not want to miss that one, and my parents don't have a VCR.
Thanks.

but I want to make some for the marathon

Subject: TAGS sightings; Columbia House tapes; Mayberry Memories

Sorry for cramming a number of thoughts all in one e-mail, but that's how
they came together. Last weekend, American Movie Classics aired "Creature
from the Black Lagoon" starring Julie Adams (the credits list it as Julia,
which she had changed by the time she appeared on TAGS as the country nurse
trying to give Rafe Hollister his shots) as a research assistant, and as the
captain of the boat to the lagoon, Nestor Paiva (he played the moonshiner
providing Otis with his supply of hootch in "The Haunted House" episode.
Got a notice from Columbia House announcing that one of the four-episode
TAGS tapes was withdrawn, the 11th in the series. I called Columbia House
and they said the promotional literature was printed and shipped before they
had gotten complete rights to issue those episodes so had to pull them from
the list, at least for now. But I was assured there are enough tapes
available to offer one per month from March through the end of November.
My copy of "Mayberry Memories" has logged more frequent flier miles than
I have. Since I obtained my copy last year just before the Birmingham
reunion show in October, I had the stars that attended the show sign the
book, and have been sending the book around the country to celebrities who
have made one or more appearances on the show. I just got the book back from
Buddy Ebsen, "Opie's Hobo Friend", who I've made arrangements to have lunch
with in May when I travel to California on business. Buddy is a spry 92.
I've also reached success with Dennis Rush (Opie's friend Howie Pruitt
from Miracle Salve fame), Keith Thibodeaux (Johnny Paul Jason), Earl Hagen
(TAGS composer and the whistler himself), Aaron Ruben (TAGS producer and
creator of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.) among others. It's off next to Frank Cady,
who played Mayberry's first drunk before Hal Smith as Otis. Cady is best
remembered as grocer Sam Drucker from Green Acres, Petticoat Junction and
Beverly Hillbillies.
