I just got home from the 1st Annual Mayberry Squad Car Nationals and wanted
to use the digest to congratulate and thank the Hearty-Eatin' Men and
Beautiful Delicate Women for the fine job they did. The park where the event
was held is very pretty. The squad cars looked fantastic and, of course,
Allan and David did their usual outstanding jobs entertaining the folks and
keeping things moving. It was nice to see our Presiding Goober, Jim Clark,
and so many other Mayberry folks out there. I really enjoyed the day and look
forward to the 2nd Annual Mayberry Squad Car Nationals being even bigger and
better.

Personally, I prefer mulberry squeezins or perhaps a sip of Col. Harvey's
elixer. I had a small milk of magnesia bottle filled with some special
recipe from the Morrison sister's flower makin' machine but it burned a hole
in my suitcase as I was crossing the NC border. I guess I shouldn't have
lied about it being Ernest Tubb's birthday. When will I learn - when will I
ever learn.
Linda - the smell of witch hazel drives this Goober CRAZY.

Another example of how true to life TAGS is........Remember when Andy tried
to talk Gomer out of enlisting in the Marines? Gomer said ( and i
paraphrase) my pa told me that one day i would have to face a challenge and
he wouldn't be around to help me...and this is one of those times...It would
just break my spirit Andy. I am facing one of those times as my Dad passed
away yesterday and i am the thrust into the leader position in my family.
He was in a car accident in October and not a day has gone by that i did not
think of Gomer in that scene. My Dad once told the doctor that he had to
hang on that he thought i wasn't ready. Well I'm gonna step up to the
challenge cause i dont want to "break my my spirit" Its amazing what we can
learn if we just listen..........

The class reunion episode when Andy and Barney are reminiscing about
how everyone has changed and Andy repeats Barney's little poem, "Do the
tears on your pillow bespeak the pain that is in your heart?" always
clutches me right in the heart too. But I think it's the background music
that makes this scene even more poignant. The way it "swells" up
and then begins a quick fall in the notes (hey, I'm no music major here)
but it sort of grabs me, you know?

But it's the story of life that this show gets us all thinking about that
makes it a little different than the usual Andy. The path
not taken, how one choice could have affected many lives. What IF Andy
and Sharon (?) had married? Would they have stayed in Mayberry since they
had different ideas about the future and probably would have had to
compromise? How would that have affected Barney? Aunt Bee? Opie?
"It makes you think."
And it's knowing we all have our moment to dance in the sun, and it's a
fine dance; but it can never last long enough, though while we're dancing we
never think of it ending.
But it ends. And without realizing it, the dance becomes a walk. Still
the sun shines and it can be a fine walk. Especially if you're lucky enough
to have someone to walk with you.
And when we come home, we have our Andys' to look at.
Now, if that ain't fine living, I don't know what is.

Laura Lee Hobbs, pretty close to the end of the dance, but liking the
walk just fine, and still the best Gold Truck Watcher on God's Green Earth

Howdy! What a technically-complete answer to the question about Gilley's
automobile engine turning the "wrong direction!" Tom Stronbow must have a
PhD in physics, and I don't mean "paper-hanger-decorator." Allan's
response (above) is also VERY CLEVER!
