How many rooms are in Andy's House.

When Uncle Ollie and Aunt Nora came, Ollie slept with Ange, the boys with
Opie and Nora with Bee and that makes three.

"In the morning I'll rub it down with Witch Hazel." "Witch Hazel makes by
eyes water." "Well, you won't see so well but your back will feel better."

In the episode of the loaded goat:
Does Barney ever light up a cigarette?

I believe in "Citizen's Arrest" when Barney locks himself up, he is smoking
in the cell.

Hi yall,
I've got a curious thought for the day. Like most fans, I take little
and almost no interest in the color episodes. But one thing has always
baffled me. Does anyone have any kind of explanation of WHY the Taylor's
kitchen door spontaneously moved to a differnt spot? That just seems crazy.
What was the point of that. All I can think of is that since Barney left,
they just tried to give a whole new feel to the show (which it does have
unfortunately) and the door was just a small part of that. I dont know.
Lots of luck to you and yours!

Hello Everyone:
I am new to your group but a die hard Andy Griffith fan. Yes Ernest T. Bass
was the voice of Leonard Blush. He is one of my favorite characters. For my
birthday last year my daughter gave me an autographed picture of him for my
Hollywood room. When Andy Griffith first appeared, we were so amazed, this
was a southern show with no phony accent. I was born and raised in the
south and now am that displaced southerner. Andy Griffith was always my
cheap trip home. For that half hour I could loose myself in Mayberry. I
think my favorite episode while I love Ernest T. Bass did not include him.
This was the first "Fun Girls" episode. If you noticed one of the fun girls
was also in the episode where Barney and Floyd encountered escaped
convicts. Another favorite was when Barney bought a car, then when Ernest
T. Bass joined the army. "Hogette that's a pretty name."
My very favorite one is the Christmas episode with Ellie and Ben. I could
go on and on. I agree with many of you that Andy was better with Ellie. She
was my favorite choice for his girlfriend. I understand they felt her
character was to liberated for him.. Go figure. This seems like a very
active and fun group. I enjoy everyone's comments. I also cook many times
out of the cast Andy Griffith cook book.

Second question... Ernest T. Bass and the Darlings are some of my
favorite characters on TAGS. Does anyone know why Ernest T. didn't make more
appearances on the show
- ---
I understand that Ernest T. Bass was a major director of the show and didn't
care much for his own acting. Has anyone else heard differently? He was
such a hoot. I still roll on the floor laughing at him. It seems those
with so much talent are never quite satisfied. I guess that's what makes
them so good.

I bought a book recently titled America A to Z by Readers Digest and it
has a nice entry for Andy Griffith. Also, this month's issue of
Reminisce magazine has an article on 1963, I believe it was, that lists
TAGS as being in the Top 10! Mayberry is everywhere!!!

I will make a confession here and purge myself of all the guilt I have been
feeling since I joined this group. I was not a TAGS fan for many years. Being
raised in NY I thought myself to sophisticated to watch this program. The
humor of the country people escaped me. There was no, one I could identify
with. My sister married a young gentleman from North Carolina and he watched
this show religously.Being he was living in New York and us having no
knowledge of the fine people in North Carolina my sister and I laughed and
made fun for him for his program choice. We were unmerciful with our teasing.
He never retaliated, he just would put up with our taunts, shake his head and
continue to watch TV. Now thirty years later I am older and wiser. The
question about the memories brought back not the good thoughts but reminded
me how superior my sister and I felt. I am now living in Ohio my sister has
moved to the mountains of Virginia. I cannot tell you how much I depend on
the simplicity and subtle teaching of every TAGS episode. The genuineness of
the characters is the reason for the shows longevity. I come home from work
and first duty is to watch my two episodes of Mayberry. The fandemonium
weekends of Andy are my happiest. Forgive me TAGS fans for what you all knew
all along. Now I think I'll go call my brother-in-law and ask forgiveness.

Like when he's feeling "special sporty." Hmmm, I wonder if it was

My $.02: While Helen has sure gotten under my skin a time or two
(Andy: "I didn't think Helen could give anyone a hard time." - Yeah,
right), she was perhaps one of the most realistic characters on the
show. So Helen, "Good on you." Now, as to our darling Darling, yep,
I gotta say that Andy could have done worse. I had the pleasure of
meeting Ms. Peterson at the gathering in Pigeon Forge last year, and
let me tell you. You'd athought half the audience had been cutting
up onions when she sang "There is a Time." After the show, I got to
speak with her for a few minutes, and let me tell you, that woman
manicurist isn't the only one that nature's been real good to - and
nature has remained kind to both of them. I've got a couple of
priceless huggy huggy picures that I wouldn't take a dollar and a
quarter for. And as Malcom would say, "Aren't ya kind!" I've never
met nicer people than that evening with Charlene and Thelma Lou!

Subject: TAGS Mixed bag

Spotted TAGS Alumnus Parley Baer in a movie called "Last of the Dogmen."
It's five or six years old, and I believe it was a made-for-HBO movie. Tom
Berenger is a modern day bounty hunter who uncovers the existence of the
remnant of an old Cheyenne Indian tribe. Our mayor plays an retired
railroad worker Berenger seeks out for information on a "wild boy" who been
captured years before. Decent movie, good story, beautiful scenery. The
language in the first half of the movie is a little rough (rated PG), but I
would recommend it. My oldest boys (10 & 8) enjoyed it.

My dad was a career state trooper and when I was a kid he worked 7 days and
then had seven days off. Some of my fondest memories are sitting in the
living room with my dad, eating Corn Flakes and watching "Andy of Mayberry"
reruns.

At risk of covering old territory, I'll venture a discussion starter:
Most old TV shows are museum pieces - novel curiosities, but very dated and
hard to watch. Watch an episode of "Good Times" or "Happy Days" - for me it
is excruciating, almost unbearable. Even, and I realize I'm flirting with
blasphemy here, "I Love Lucy" has a very of-that-time feel to it (and the
later Lucy shows certainly do). So, I have two questions: Why do you think
TAGS has remained so popular and "watchable" for 40 plus years? Are there
any other shows you feel have aged as well as TAGS? (I'd say none, but MASH
comes close)

"Does Barney ever light up a cigarette? Not that I can remember!...Did
Don Knotts smoke at that time, and just happened to have his "fixins" in
his pocket, or did Barney happen to be a closet smoker?"

There was one time I recall Barney smoking. It was in the "Citizen's
Arrest" episode after Barney refused to pay the U-turn fine and locked
himself in a cell. Andy comes back in later to find Barney puffing away
with a hardened, bad-guy look on his face. But after a few puffs, he
starts sputtering and coughing, making it clear that Barney's character
is not actually a smoker.

In real life, Don did smoke, at least for part of his life. A photo in
his autobiography shows a young Don Knotts holding a cigarette. It seems
to me (though I can't remember where this is mentioned) that he says that
he quit smoking at some point. (Perhaps someone will remember that
better than me!)

Subject: The Haunted House

This is my first time posting and it is a result of
watching a classic 'old' Sci-fi movie titled "The
Creature From the Black Lagoon".

Has anyone noticed that the captain of the boat used
to cruise up to the Black Lagoon was the gentleman
making moonshine in TAGS episode about the Haunted
House.

I believe his real name is Nester Paiva.

It sure is enjoyable spotting all the TAGS cast as you
watch TV or movies.

Have a Mayberry day.
