Sorry, but I *think* that was Otis and Gomer.

Hello Everyone,
I am a recent subscriber to the digest and read every issue. Up until
this time I have been a little hesitant to write, but I do have a question.
There is one particular episode that I think needs some explaining. It is
the Aunt Bea's Pickles episode. It is one of my very favorites, BUT can
anyone tell me why if the pickles tasted like kerosene, Aunt Bea didn't taste
it? Further, Aunt Bea seemed to be an ace at any kind of recipe, yet somehow
she ruined this one. Then, to add insult to injury, she makes another batch.
Sure is a puzzler, isn't it?
Well, I was getting ready to sign off when it occurred to me I don't
have a Mayberry name. I would have loved to have been one of the Good Time
Girls, but that is already taken. Does anyone have an idea for a name for
me? I would appreciate it.

I don't remember the name of the episode but there was one when the FBI was
mentioned when the people came to study Mayberry's low crime rate. There were
two men and a woman involved. But they were really there to rob the bank. Andy
figured out the scheme when he had has picture made with one of the men. He
said he knew the people were not from the FBI because FBI men do not allow
people to take their picture.

That's a great question! I don't know the answer you're looking for, but
Thelma Lou's cousin Mary Grace's last name is never revealed (I don't think)
and that is the actresses real first name. Just thought I'd throw that in.

I just got a DVD player and was wondering if anyone knows of the availability
of TAGS on DVD and where to buy or order them from and the quality,
epilogues, etc. Thanks.

Floyd wasn't in that episode (#80, High Noon in Mayberry). The knot-tying
deputies were Barney, Gomer, and Otis.

>>>Paul, are you speaking of Jesse Pearson who portrayed Keevy Hazelton and
the candy-shop owner who was thought to be running a questionable contest
with different colored centers in peppermints that determined the prize?
Aunt Bee of Orlando

Right! In the episode "Andy and Opie's Pal," Gomer thinks Jesse Pearson
(whom we never see*) must have rigged the Lucky Peppermint Contest at his
candy store. The lucky person who bites into a candy with a green center
will win the flashlight, and anyone who gets one with a pink center gets a
free mint. Gomer got 22 whities in a row, prompting him to report the
situation to Barney.

Years later, an actor named Jesse Pearson played the character of Keevy
Hazelton in "A Singer in Town."

*I didn't say "a Mayberry character;" that would have implied a person seen
on screen. I said "a person who lives in Mayberry."

Someone said that the last name of Thelma Lou's cousin
Mary Grace was never revealed. Someone correct me if
I'm wrong but wasn't her last name Gossage?

I was watching Gomer Pyle and they had an episode where Sgt. Carter goes home
to "Wichita" to visit his mom. The inside and outside of that house looked
awfully familiar. Am I nuts or is that Andy's house?

And about Mary Grace's last name, wasn't it Gossitch? And her real last name
was Canfield. That one I'm sure of.

My guess is the actress Mary Grace Canfield (sp?) played Thelma Lou's cousin
Mary Grace Canfield.
She's just like you said - she's NICE, real NICE.

bedrooms and one bath.

Hey gang,

I was watching "Goodbye Sheriff Taylor" the other night were Andy considers
taking the detective job in Raleigh and noticed one of those 'camera
inconsistancies'. When Barney throws the tomato at Otis it hits him right in
the center of his shirt but when the camera angle changes to behind the desk
so you can see Barney and all three 'deputies' the tomato splat is all the
way up to his neck and looks slightly different. It kinda looks like
ketchup...???!!! Anyway, as the camera angles switch back and forth between
these two shots the tomato splat changes back and forth also just as when
Barney is trying to recite the preamble and his hair switches from messed up
to combed several times. Another slight miscue by the editors but something
for us to notice about the greatest TV show ever made!

Howdy beloved:
I wuz jes puruzin thru a tape and wuz watchin the episode (I believe it's
called "The houseguest") where Gomer was fired from Wally's station. Well,
when Andy pulled up to the house to find his driveway filled with Gomer's
customers, seemd to me that he sure did an awful parking job, leavin the
rear end of the squad car out in the street (must be two sets of parkin
laws, one for the po-lice, and one for the ordinary citizens) and I also had
a wonder about when Andy gave Billy Jack a ticket for bad brakes. Does
anyone know, and hopefully the certified trained noticers can tell, 'cause I
have no idea, how many citations did Andy actually write. Jes had a
compelsion to wonder...
