I love that line. It cracks me up every time I hear it.
Some others that really twang my buds:
- -"Tell her to quit hangin' her head out the window like a dog."
- -"What's wrong with third party? Its not dirty."
- -"You fall down a well...you're wet."
- -"Ain't you got a jack?"
- -"Sick as a dog, but having the time of my life."
- -"I've heard just about enough about that tomato!"
- -"And get that gun out of your mouth."

By the way, does anybody else get a kick out of the titles of those fake
songs that make Briscoe Darling cry? "Never Hit Your Grandma with a Great
Big Stick" gets me every time.

OK, I'll jump on the "favorite TAGS lines" bandwagon. Here are a few of mine:

"Oh, hi Otis. Say, I just seen your mother-in-law comin' out of the dentist."

"Will you help us?"

"We're home!"

"Is he armed?"
"He is now."

"That's the couch I was tellin' you about."

"We don't understand French."

"All right, all right, all right, ya smell gas! What do you think this car
runs on, coal?!"

"But I'm not from Greece. I'm from Greensboro."

"I think I've heard JUST about enough about that tomato."

"...Clarisse Tyler, Maude Clarisse Tyler, Annabelle Tyler, and Ralph
Henderson." (and the
subsequent look on Andy's face as he stares at the radio)

"Why didn't you mail it?"
"I wouldn't buy a stamp from that machine!"

"Hi, sweetie... Oh, hello, Frank."

Paul in Atlanta

P.S. I saw "Andy and Helen Get Married" for the first time tonight. What a
treat! It was as if
meeting a long-lost friend for the first time. My favorite part was Barney's
walking down the aisle
with bride and groom. :-) Atta boy, Luther!

I suppose lots of us have now seen tha RFD A & H wedding. I'd seen
it years ago and had forgotten it was more about Aunt Bee coming to
stay with Sam and Mike rather than A & H getting married. Of course
that was to set up Mayberry RFD. I'd also forgotten the parallels
between that episode and the first AGS where Aunt Bee came to care
for Opie. I enjoyed all of it but have to admit that my favorite
part was seeing Mr. Schwump at Andy's bachelor party (I guess they
had root beer) and the wedding. I hope others noticed him!

At the beginning of the episode "Howard's New Life," the Taylors sit down to
watch one of Aunt Bee's favorite programs, which Andy calls her
"travelogue." Whether that's the title of the show or a general term for a
show about traveling is uncertain. There was never a prime time network
show by that name, so I'd guess the latter.

Anyway, the theme music of the "travelogue" is the same as the music heard
that time A & H were watching TV that night, so that's probably what they
were watching.

Subject: Mayberry R.F.D.

I never liked Mayberry R.F.D. because I always thought it was inferior to
TAGS. However, I watched the wedding episode last night on TV Land. Two
questions came to mind.

        1. When I saw Opie sitting in the church, and I realized that
Aunt Bea was going to live with Sam and Mike, was there ever any mention of
what happened to Opie? He seemed too young for college, although he could
have gone and joined the Marines with Gomer.

        2. Goober "played" sheriff while Andy and Helen were on their
honeymoon. How was the sheriff part treated in other episodes of Mayberry
R.F.D.? Did a new sheriff come to town, or was the role simply not
mentioned?

For Charlie: when Andy turned the TV to an adventure show, the music I
heard reminded me of the piece I first heard at Knotts Berry Farm in
Calif when I was a kid. They had a diorama of covered wagons and told
the story of the pioneers and their westward migration. That music to me
signifies the gentle clip-clop of horses on a long journey.

When I watch some of the newer tv sitcoms, I always marvel at how much
television has been influenced by TAGS. For example, the Dillards MUST have
been the model for Larry, Daryl & Daryl on the Bob Newhart show.
Any other examples you can think of?

Hey Everybody,
I got my June issue of Biography Magazine in the mail yesterday and they
have a Favorite TV Dad poll this month in honor of Father's day. Our very
own Sheriff Andy Taylor is one of the choices (of course)! You can vote
online at the web link below. It will take you right to the voting page.
Let's see if we can get Andy the #1 spot he deserves!
                        See ya, Pam

http://www.biography.com/features/dad_poll/

Andy: "I want to tell you something, Opie. And I want you to listen real
careful because this is important. You're my young 'un and I love you more
than anything or anybody in the whole world, and nothin' or nobody can ever
change that. You know, it's hard for me to tell you just how much you mean
to me 'cause you're a part of me."

Barn: "...so you believe in Mr. McBeevee?"
Andy: "No, but I do believe in Opie. There's been a lot of times I've asked
him to believe somethin' that to him must've seemed just as impossible. I
guess that's when you have to decide if you have faith in somebody or not."

Opie: "Pa, do I have to kiss you in front of company?"

I watched the first Mayberry RFD last night when Andy and Helen got married. I
have seen all of the TAGS episodes, but
never really got into the RFD shows. However, since there was a wedding
between Andy and Helen, I had to watch it! I
thought the part where they told them to join hands and Barney grabbed Andy's
hand was hilarious! And Barney walking up
the aisle with them and waving and smiling to everyone was just pure Barney!
I'm glad I watched that one. It was great!

I wasn't going to, because there are so many classic one-liners, but here are
a couple of my favorites I want to share:

"Next time I go huntin' tigers, I'm gonna take my tweezers."
"Tall...dark...and DOOR PRIZE!"
"pow...Pow...POW!"
and, it's been mentioned before, but the ever popular:
"If a quail flew through the room, every woman in it would point!"

On a side-note, while we were watching TAGS tonight, my husband wondered how
many of you greet each other with the FBI handshake when you attend Mayberry
Days?

Hi y'all. I saw the discussion about the editing of TAGS on TVLand, so I
decided to ask them directly. Here is the entire conversation we had. Use
whatever you see fit in the digest. If you don't think it warrants posting
in the digest, it won't hurt my feelings. I just thought I'd give everybody
the opportunity to see an "official" reason.
