I noticed this where Barney is running in the opposite direction from where
the town was to the filling station, where Gomer called and told Otis that the
service station was being robbed just to get Andy and Barney back together as
friends. But Gomer was given 4 more tickets from Barney for turning in a false
alarm and this is why Andy and Barney had thier argument because Gomer made a
U turn and Barney gave him a ticket, and Gomer made a citizens arrest because
Barney did the same thing,Andy made Barney write himself out a ticket and
Barney got mad and instead of paying the 5 dollar fine he chose the latter 5
days in jail. And thats why Andy and Barney were mad at each other Barney was
more upset than Andy was of course, but they came together at the end of the
show nobody could keep those two apart.Good luck to you and yours Tags fan in

"perhaps Barney wasn't in town, being elsewhere sobbing over the
situation. Andy simply states "A call came through saying there was
some kind of trouble here" (or something similar)... perhaps Barney
left the courthouse telling Otis where he was heading and Otis took
the message-"
Nope, when the call comes through to the courthouse, Otis lets himself
out of the cell to answer the phone, after trying to get Barney to answer
it-Barney is sitting in the other cell-the camera shows his face closeup,
listening to Otis`s side of the conversation, and you can just see ol` Barn
getting all worked up, and something tells you that Gomer`s plan is going to
work-Even though Barney does wind up giving him several tickets for calling
in the false report-again, no big deal-just one of those things, just
something that ol` eagle eye mendlebright happened to catch!

Hello All,
I have 3 of the Mayberry cookbooks and they are great. Every recipe I have
tried so far has been wonderful. I was just wondering if any of you other
TAGS fans have any really good recipes you would like to share. I love the
episodes with Aunt Bee and when everyone is around the table. It brings back
memories of going to grandma's house for Sunday dinner. It was always such a
comforting feeling. I guess that's why I love the show so much, it comforts
me.

Have a Mayberry day!

I just wanted to remind you all about "Aunt Bee's ONLINE Cookbook".
     http://www.tagsrwc.com/interactive/cookbook/index.htm

It's a GREAT place to share recipes and to see those that folks have already
posted. It'd be good to see more and more good recipes on there so head over
there and add your favorite.

I was just wondering what the favorite episode is. Here in Western Kentucky
and West Tennessee is seems to be Barney buys a car, with Miracle Salve
running a close second. I believe my personal favorite for tear jerking in
Mr. McBeevee, and my favorite funny episode is Opie's three wishes, Jimbo
Dr. Penyke Seay

I think I would have to say "Mayberry Goes Hollywood". The producer's
speech at the end after the "hollywood-izing" of Mayberry sums up what made
Mayberry and the people in it so special.

I've noticed from time to time that various Goobers' will offer Mayberry
related items for sale on the digest. I studied the rules very carefully
and this doesn't break #1 or #2. I know that there are some folks who might
have an objection to this but I just want to say that, personally, I think
it's really neat to get first peek at the goodies before they go on auction
or (horrors) sold to an outsider. It's like keeping the family heirlooms
in the family.

Good call, Anita, the one about Barney's car is one of my very favorites. I
never, ever saw a funnier example of an automotive love affair gone bad.
Barney goes from the ecstasy of being a new car owner, to being heartsick
about sinking his savings into such a lemon. My favorite part: Gomer comes
back to the courthouse to read off the long list of things that are wrong
with Barney's '54 Ford, and then throws in, "...and it could use a good
wash!"

We are all familar with Howard's deviated septum. But I do believe Opie must
be suffering from this condition also. When he broke the $64 bottle of
perfume, he cleaned up the entire mess and never realized it was just colored
water. Now either his septum was totally deviated, or that "colored water"
was the real stuff and Mr. Crawford never knew it or that pefume never had
much of a smell to start with.

>>>I have seen the kinescopes, the routines with Don are a hoot. One of my
favorite MOS routines identified him as "K.B. Anderson," a really nervious
man. Seems the K.B. stood for "Ka-BOOM!" (He was a munitions expert.)
>>>

I haven't seen any of those in a long time, but the segments where Don
played the "man on the street" were indeed hilarious! For those who haven't
seen them, Don played a very nervous man named Mr. Morrison, and Steve Allen
played a reporter who would interview people on a public street. Mr.
Morrison's initials were different each time, and they were always tied in
to his occupation. Here are a couple of examples:

Steve: Could you tell us your name, sir?

Don (shaking like a leaf): My name is S. L. Morrison, and I am a plastic
surgeon.

Steve: What does the S. L. stand for?

Don: Sorry, Lady!

The K.B. one went like this:

Steve: Your name, sir?

Don: My name is K. B. Morrison, and I used to work in a munitions factory.

Steve: What does the K. B. stand for?

Don: KABOOM!

Steve: You say you USED to work in a munitions factory. You don't work
there anymore?

Don: It isn't there anymore.

>>> ...does anybody remember an episode explaning what happened to Warren-i
dont even remember exactly when
it was he left, just that some of the shows have him, and some dont...
>>>

The producers felt the character of Warren Ferguson wasn't working very
well, so after about a dozen episodes, they quietly wrote him out of the
series. No explanation was ever given on-screen.

This is actually pretty common in TV shows. Remember Richie
Cunningham's older brother Chuck? He appeared in a few early episodes of
Happy Days, but after that he was never seen or mentioned again. It was as
if he had never existed.

It seems to me that rather than having a character just disappear, it
would make more sense to simply insert an explanatory line into a script,
such as having Andy say something like "I've got a lot more paper work to do
now that Warren has moved back to Boston to take care of his mother." In
Warren's case they didn't do this; he just seemed to vanish.

Subject: Andy's middle name

Just a quick footnote on Andy's name...several have correctly pointed out
that Andy's middle name is Samuel, but I haven't seen any comment on Andy's
full given name which is "Andy Samuel Taylor"...not "Andrew". I've seen the
"official verification" on this one--last month we spent a night at Andy's
Homeplace in Mt. Airy, NC and a framed copy of Andy's birth certificate
hangs on the wall. Seems a little unusual that his given name was Andy not
Andrew, but maybe his folks were like mine--they like people to be called by
their given names rather than nicknames. Andy's folks knew he'd be called
Andy even if his name was Andrew, so they named him Andy.

I think his name in the show was officially given as Andrew in the Class
Reunion episode when his picture is shown as "Andrew Jackson Taylor", and I
know that Mrs. Sprague referred to him as "Andrew" several times (being the
proper woman that she was).

BTW, Andy's Homeplace in Mt. Airy was a blast...they also have framed copies
of the Warranty Deeds when Andy's folks bought the house (for $600) in 1935
and when they sold it (for $6,000) in 1966, plus lots of other interesting
items. That evening, we went down to the store for some ice cream and
kicked back to watch a few TAGS eps. Hard to believe that when those
episodes were on originally (prior to 1966), Andy's folks were probably
sitting in that very living room "looking at TV" watching their son perform.
It's not quite the Taylor place, but with a swing out front and magnolia
trees in the back yard, "it's nice...real nice". After staying in Mt. Airy
and a few days in the Smoky Mtns., we headed to Nashville for the reunion
and had a great time there too! Seemed like a big extended family reunion!

Keith in Nebraska

Mrs. Sprague: Andrew, just what do you do at those lodge meetings?

Andy: We horse around.
