Myra:
Could you please tell me where you purchased your Mayberry Village
pieces. I have wanted one for a long time. Do you have it displayed all the
time or do you use it for a Christmas village? Thanks for your help.

Subject: Expensive Perfume?

It has always seemed somewhat out of place,.. That in the mid 60s,.. a
Sheriff in a small southern town would spend $64 on a bottle of perfume
for a birthday present. According to another episode $15,000 a year was
considered pretty good money. So lets say Andy made $15,000 a year. Him
paying that amount for the gift,..would be like a guy making $30,000 a
year today (supporting a young son and an aunt) laying out $128 for
perfume. Seems a bit far fetched for Mayberry. Any thoughts?
My wife would rather have the bed jacket anyway.

Subject: quotes you can use

I use TAGS quote all the time every day and me and hubby always try to
outdo each other. Here's a few me and Elvisfife use quite often:

"It's big, oooh, it's really BIG!"
"She's nice, real nice"
"MEAT! TATERS!"
"Lotsa luck to you and yers"
"Goober sez hey!"
"I ain't about to be beat to death with no spoon"

And as a lunch lady during the school year, I am always telling my male
teachers, "It does my heart good to see a thin man eat!"

I have told this in the digest before, but it bears repeating. At school
I was mixing a batch of soft drinks with a student. As ya'll know, I
show TAGS episodes during the rest period after lunch and encourage them
to use quotes they learn. Well this drink mix was a syrup base and I was
reading the instructions, "mix water and syrup at a 5 to 1 ratio" when
the child says "Poor Horatio!!!" How funny is that?

Subject: Famous people met by accident

Hey, I know this is a little late, as I have been off-line for a week while
staying with Daddy in the hospital after spinal cord surgery; someone this past
week mentioned/asked about famous people (especially TAGS) he/we had met by
accident.
Here in Branson you meet a few sometimes.
A few years ago, Branson had a TAGS reunion of some sort at Cristy Lane's
theatre.
Hubby and Daddy met "Goober" eating breakfast at the shack cafe in old downtown.
Daddy got his autograph on a napkin. They said he was nice, real nice.
I ran into Andy Willaims at the grocery parking lot one day; he was getting
out of his car and I was gettin in mine. Also, John Davidson used to have a
show here and we talked to him and did his signs for his theatre. Ran into Tony
Orlando;ran into singers from the Platters and The Box Tops. Met and talked
to Roy Clark's wife a few times;Met and talked to Mel Tillis one day standing
in line at the grocery store; Met and talked to Rodney Dillard a few times at
shows and have his autograph in my Aunt Bee's cook book #1 and in Everybody
on the truck" book ( GREAT book: am reading it now. (That turkey-in-the-trailer
story is funny). There are many others we have ran across by accident or
otherwise
here in what used to be a "hoppin' town".

I noticed on an RFD episode that when Mike was in the play, Jodie Foster, his
sister, was in the play, also, AND Millie called her by name: Jodie. Jodie
already
had that "signature" hoarse voice and side-to-side-walking gait. Does any body
know if Jodie was in more than that one episode?

Did anyone else notice just how well barney sang in the episode about Otis
driving, and Barney and Andy was trying to teach him a lesson about driving
while gassed? The song was We Shall Meet But We Shall Miss Him(one of my
all-time tags songs)-but anyway, anybody that can sing that beautifully
harmonizing, just cant possible sound that bad when going solo-i think this
is just another case of the producers not following the story-lines-but thats
ok, it gave other stories to laugh about.
Just saw the replica of my boarding house down at Weaver`s in the
Mayberry village collection-a must have!

I wanted to share something with all the fans of TAGS. Through unfortunate
circumstances, I have a friend who is in prison in Georgia, and he has told
me that it never fails to amaze him how often the guys in his dorm never miss
TAGS. He says anytime they "vote" on what show to watch, this is always their
choice. The black/white ratio plus the Hispanic ration is never a concern -
they all vote the same. I'm sure they must remember a time when right was
right and perhaps this takes them back to those days, regardless of what
happened later in life. I think also, that to have something so honest and
pure as this show must mean a lot to them in their surroundings. I just
thought this was a wonderful observation that people from every possible walk
of life are moved by the writing and acting in our favorite show. Carol
Faver, Atlanta, Georgia.

Hellooo Dolll, Here are a couple Mayberry sayings that I find myself
using. "I got a RUDE." "Done and done" (what Charlene says after
burying the 'divorce proceedings') "Fiddlesticks" ( an Aunt Bee
favorite) "Its me, Its me..." I also wanted to say that I saw
Hope Summers on an episode of Welcome Back Kotter this morning. She was
playing a school board member deciding the fate of Mr Kotter's career.

Subject: Barney and Andy

When reading my Digest this evening, I noticed that Becky and Gary Boyd had 2
favorite characters, Barney and Andy. Excellent choices, I might add.
Anyway, that got me to thinking about something.
What if Andy Griffith had left the show and Don Knotts had stayed?
We all talk about how the show was never the same after Don left. Although it
was still very funny and still the best thing on TV, it was just missing
something without our Barney. But what if Sheriff Taylor had been given that
job in South America? Could Barney have been as funny without Andy?
I realize that Don Knotts is a wonderful actor and is extremely gifted. But
could the character, Barney, have been as hilarious without Andy as the
straight man? I THINK NOT! (But it's kind of fun to think about what it might
have been like.)
Thanks for listening,
Crystal M.

Subject: Explanation of Barney's direction

If the street that everyone says comes from town to the filling station has
to loop around to get to the filling station, this might explain why Barney
comes from the other way coming directly from the jail. As the "crow flies"
it might be a straight shot from the jail to the filling station and brings
Barney just to the other side of the station. If everyone remembers the show
just shows Barney coming from a few yards from that direction. This just
might be the reason everyone may accept, or maybe not.
