You get a really good look at this poster on the episode Dogs dogs dogs. but
I still
dont know what it is. I have asked about this poster before but never got
any reply.
It kinda looks like presidents to me but I'm not for sure.

Perhaps it was to add some conflict to the show, after they got rid of Ben
Weaver. I did always wonder how someone who was usually so petty and
unpleasant (by the writers' design, of course) could get elected in a town
like Mayberry, over Mayor Pike. He must've really had an alternate
personality he could flip on and off like a switch...either that, or
Mayberry's ugliest campaign before the "'76 documented cases of malfeasance!"

flea markets looking for a TAGS Lunchbox. My wife and I had so much fun
doing this always hoping that each stop would bring us a box. So what
happens. I finally find out there never were TAGS lunchboxes. >>

Sad to say - that's true as far as OLD boxes go but we can always buy one at
Weaver's and, before we know it, IT will be old. The next best thing in the
way of a vintage lunchbox is the Gomer Pyle box. Fortunately, I am the
proud owner of one and wouldn't trade it for a speckled pup.

Hi Larry,

You'll have a great time visiting "the granite city". Suggest visiting
www.visitmayberry.com for a very complete list of attractions and dining
choices.
Suggest stopping at the Snappy Lunch for Charles' world famous pork chop
sandwich - always a crowd, but worth it!
Just up Main St. from the Snappy is the Bluebird Diner - great ice cream! On
up Main St past the banks is the Visitors' Center which has an amazing
collection of Andy memorabilia courtesy of Emmett Forrest. While there, they
have some new downtown Mt Airy maps which very clearly show the locations of
all the attractions in the immediate area including Andy's homeplace on E
Haymore St across from the big water tank! Lots of great eating places -
highly recommend Yhano's - the food and prices are unbelievable! One of the
best hamburgers is at The Derby down in Bannertown just down S Renfro St. If
you're there on a Sat. morning, be sure to step into the Downtown Cinema
across from the Snappy Lunch for a few minutes to hear some great local
bluegrass talent. Hope you have a great time!

Hey everyone,
I've been reading all the opinions about the b&w & the color eps and now I
must say what I think. I like them all. It's still the Andy Griffith show w/
or w/out color.
Much obilged,

Mighty strong words...but if you really want to know, it's because a good
story has to have conflict. In order for the writers to come up with
scripts with conflict, you have to have characters who are notably different
in personality. Look at any famous comedy duo, for example Andy and Barney,
Abbot and Costello, Lucy and Ricky, or even Pinky and the Brain. The reason
the stories work is because there is conflict between the characters.

Anyway, the idea was that Mayor Stoner was supposed to be pretty much the
exact opposite of Andy. If the sheriff and the mayor were exactly alike,
one of them would have been unnecessary.

I think it's a tribute to the American presidents. Around the outside are
portraits of each president; the lines in the middle are timelines showing
when each man served.

Maybe part of the episode was cut out. There's supposed to be a line where
Goober indicates the clutch pedal, explaining "Ya mash that down with your
left foot when ya wanna change gears." Aunt Bee replies, "Yes, I would do
that, wouldn't I?"

Something else that bugs me about that scene is, why does he tell her to
"put the key in the starter?" Come on Goob, the starter is under the hood!

WORK,ACTIVITY,AND BEING WITH YOUR FRIENDS HELPS PROVIDE YOU WITH A SENSE OF
DIRECTION.
AND ANDYS QUOTE AT THE END GETS ME EVERY TIME. "A MAN HAS DREAM. GOES

Regarding not using the clutch while shifting gears: I recall my brother
had a Dodge or Plymouth from around 1950 that he shifted without using a
clutch pedal. I'm sure it wasn't an automatic. I don't know what kind of
transmission it had, but he did shift from first to second to third.

Didn't Aunt Bee learn to drive a Ford? I don't know if they had that kind
of transmission.

What this all comes down to it they probably didn't think of the clutch
while filming. Just another oversight that most people don't catch.

For the last season or two, Lucy and Ricky moved to Connecticut and lived in
the country. They had an upstairs at their country house. Who ever said that
their houses were the same was probably thinking of the country house.
Their houses did look a little bit alike, but not much. Both shows were
taped at Desilu, and probably shared some of the same props. They may have
been taped on the same soundstage, I'm not sure. But they weren't the same
house!

Good TV is with a real message is impossible to find today.
So color or black and white makes no difference as to the
quality of this great show. I personally would enjoy seeing the
B/W episodes colorized. Turn off the color on your set and
many would not be able to tell if it was a color or B/W episode.
Jus jump in and hang on I might have something here.

<<For those of you that enjoy the color episodes, what are your ONE, TWO or
THREE favorites>>

Good question...I've said many times here, I have *always* felt the color
episodes were highly underrated. I think that's an excellent point that it
reflects more of a '60s America than the '50s one portrayed in the earlier
years...Howard was the intellectual, Goober was the working man, Emmett was
the older generation, yet they all stayed close together, you never saw them
argue over politics or any other '60s hot buttons. They all loved and
accepted each other, even if they got on each other's nerves occasionally
(like when Goober grew his beard).

Anyhow, my faves...*still* have a hard time narrowing them down, even leaving
out the Barney guest shots...

1. "The Battle of Mayberry"
2. "Dinner at Eight"
3. "The Mayberry Chef" (not sure of the episode title of this James L.
Brooks-written gem but it was priceless)
4. "Aunt Bee Learns to Fly" (again, don't have my episode guide with me for
the titles)
5. The episode in which Malcolm Merriwether and Ernest T. Bass appear
together...
