I always wondered what old Seth did with all his money. According to Aunt
Bee he made millions. He must have spent it all because poor Andy and Aunt
Bee sure didn't seem to get any. Then again maybe it was lost in the market
crash as happened to so many others. I think he should have diversified.

>>>I know this has the potential of violating rule #2 but isn't that statue
comical looking? The scale of it is off and the uplifted arm doesn't have
an elbow, looks kind of like a bent pipe or something. Who do you think
really sculpted that thing? Newton Monroe?

Jeff Krentz
>>>

I expect they just used some old statue that was laying around in some prop
store room, rather than spending the money to have a new one made. After
all, it only appeared on screen for a few seconds (we never see it in any
future episodes - there's even a Mayberry RFD episode centered around the
"fact" that Mayberry does not have any statues on public display).

I love Leon! Too bad he wasn't seen more in Mayberry! I don't know if it is
that sweet little face and his cowboy outfit, or the fact that he was willing
to share his pb&j's with everyone, but I just think he's too cute! And I don't
remember anyone saying who's son he was on the show, but I guess he just
belonged to everybody, the way kids did in small towns, like we've discussed on
the list. I think Leon was hilarious, the way he just toddled up to Andy,
Barney or whomever and stood there holding up his
sandwich! He cracks me up every time I see him. What episodes did he appear
in, does anyone know? I saw him recently on the episode where they were
solving the mystery of the thievery at Weaver's store, but I'm not sure exactly
what other episodes he appeared in. Thanks for your appreciation of little
Leon! :) Lisa

I like the explanation Allan wrote in the last digest about issues and how he
handles them. He should be some kind of negotiator up there in that White
House. Personally, there have been several of my comments that didn't make
the digest which leads me to believe I'm one of his "special ed" members. I
didn't see anything at all wrong with them but I didn't worry about them not
being printed because, as I see it, this is Allan's baby and he's the one
who has to change the diapers. I can always think of more comments to make
that do get printed. If I'm being monitored, then so be it - I always did
like to get a lot of attention. Go, Boy, Go.
Goober Linda - I don't mind normal conversation, but I hate chit-chat.

I don't want to stir up a hornet's nest but I have a personal observation
from firsthand experience. When I was most fortunate to meet Andy at
Disney World a few years ago, he was truly very shy and overwhelmed by
the enthusiasm of the crowd enveloping him. He shook my hand and smiled
a bit but said very little as I believe he is not comfortable around
strangers. Most of the other stars from TAGS and any other celebrities I
have met seem to be very outgoing but Andy is just not in that category.
I don't believe this means he is ungrateful for fans; he's just bashful
despite his stardom and prefers quiet activities like fishing.

a neighborhood with fish vendors

When I listed all the series on which Mayberry regulars were also regulars, I
missed one..."The Smith Family," a short-lived family comedy-drama that
starred Henry Fonda and co-starred Ron Howard...aired on ABC sometime around
1971-72...

Warren Beatty's "Dick Tracy" shown the other night on WGN out of Chicago
had at least three actors with TAGS ties in it. R. G. Armstrong, who played
Old Man Flint on TAGS, appeared behind a ton of make-up as Pruneface;
Michael J. Pollard, aka Cousin Virgil, was also behind a ton of makeup. Also
appearing was the actor who played the minister that Aunt Bee and Clara
Edwards were trying to woo.
Last night, John Wayne starred in "The Horse Soldiers" on TBS. His second
in command was the TAHS actor who played Mr. O'Malley in the episode
"Convicts at Large." Mayberry is everywhere!

>>saying hello on the street. They please me by

Well, yea and nay...

To this day I will not watch *anything* featuring a certain major
actor/comedian, because I personally witnessed him rudely and profanely
refuse to give an autograph to an eight or nine year old little girl. In
the awkward silence that followed, as the rest of his fans put away their
pens and autograph books, this so called celebrity found it fitting to make
cruel remarks about the girl's appearance to those in his entourage.
Knowing how this person feels about his fans causes me to find no pleasure
in watching any of his performances.

We must respect the individual and treat others as we would want to be
treated, but those who are public performers owe *much* to their fans, whose
attentions have provided them with fame and livelihood. The satire on SNL's
Star Trek parody was funny because there were/are fans of the show who
thought it was real (also, Galaxy Quest was a hilarious inverting of that
whole business). While TAGS fans may say, jokingly, that Mayberry is real,
or we wish it was, what we mostly appreciate is the quality of the acting
and writing of what we feel is the best TV show of all time. We have also
found the cast members to be kind and gracious, understanding of their roles
in the public eye. I hope every TAGS fan will treat the cast with dignity,
with the expectation that the cast return the favor.

I watched a movie the other day called *61. This is about the homerun
race (baseball) between Roger Maris and Micky
Mantle. With Micky and Roger rooming together with another guy. They did
things together like eating and watching
T.V. Guess what T.V. show they watched? That's right.......The Andy
Griffith Show....... The funniest part of that was when
they started whistling the theme song. I just started laughing because
one of them was so off on the whistling. I liked the
story of the homerun race, but the cussing is what I didn't like at all.

   Margaret
BTW one of my favorite scenes.
Andy telling Opie that he is out at the baseball game and everybody
upset with Andy.
Then Helen and Aunt Bee seeing the picture which tells the truth that
Opie was really safe at home.

On our recent vacation, we had the opportunity to tour a little Hollywood.
I could not help but think about when the Taylor's visited there to see
the filming of Sheriff without a Gun. I did not get my picture taken with
Caesar Romero's newspaper BUT I did get my picture taken with Andy
Griffith's star on the Walk of Fame and Ron Howard's footprints in front
of Mann's Chinese Theatre. I think I was as thrilled as little Opie with
that Newspaper.

My regret was not getting with Mike Creech before I went out, to get
directions to Myers Lake (the reservoir) where they filmed the lake shots
on TAGS. As we toured the back lot of Universal Studios, I wished that
the back 40 acres was still there, so I could visit a little
Mayberry...but the next best thing, was visiting Whoville. We got to see
the set that boy-genius and producer extraordinaire Ron Howard built for
his Movie, the Grinch.

My local station carried Return to Mayberry one night last week. I just
happened to notice it the day of, or I would have put out an alert. For
most of you, this may no big deal, but I did not have this taped, and had
only seen once about 10-12 years ago. What a treat! The whole gang had
aged 20 years or so, but most were still true to form. What an ingenious
script by our friend Harvey Bullock and his buddy Everett Greenbaum to
include all those characters in meaningful roles. I hope this question
has not been asked before about that movie. Why did they play the choir
singing ole 14A in the background a couple times??? It didn't seem to fit
in.
I did tape it and can't wait to watch again.

Bald guy count (thanks for feedback)..
Mayor Pike
Frank Cady Characters (photographer and Mt. Pilot jailbird) (thanks Aunt
Bee of Orlando)
Melissa's Daddy---Lawsuit for breach of promise (Jackie Coogan)
Emmett
Mrs. Mendlebright's boyfriend??? Malcom Tucker Emmett's
Brother in law?

Regarding present day Andy, I heard from a friend of a friend that lives
near him that he is often seen in church and around town. He is very
friendly to the locals. Regarding attending events etc. I, too, think it
would be great, but I think it has been said before that he likes to be
viewed by his whole career, not just one show and I can just imagine that
fans and autographs can get very wearying.

You're not talkin to a jerk ya know
