When I said that Aunt Bee and all the other ladies would furnish the
food, I should have mentioned at least one exception. We wouldn't want
Lillian's infamous meatballs. Their terrible.

And I just hope Barney has the good sense not to accompany the young couple
on their honeymoon this time. But with our Barney, one never
knows, does one?

Another serious question for you lovely people of Mayberry to ponder:

Has my beloved Mr. Darling ever said a line that didn't slay you?

In other words, has he ever been in a scene where he didn't take you
hostage, leaving you begging to be released? If you answered "yes" to
that question, then you are a stronger person than I.

This guy captures me every time I see his beautiful face, and heaven knows,
he and Floyd are the Masters of Delivery. You can give those
two a line as dull as dishwater and in their hands it becomes like sparkling
champagne. What unbelievable talent!

We all know how talented Barney, Andy, Opie, etc. are. But let us not
forget to watch and remember the two Masters at work. Such a treat to
watch and now our loss to bear.

Most of us know the shows by heart now, so the next time you see Floyd or my
beloved Briscoe come on, just watch--I mean really watch--the way
they deliver a line. You'll be amazed at how an ordinary line turns to
gold for them.

written--wonder what causes that?)

I don't know who sculpted it (Otis on a Saturday night) but that statue was
around for several years before "TAGS" pulled it out of the Desilu prop
department. The first time I can recall seeing it, was in a 1963 episode of
"The Lucy Show." Lucy and Viv attend their college reunion, and show the coeds
an old Homecoming prank: hauling the statue of the university's founder up to
the campus belltower. I remember seeing him in "Mission: Impossible" and "The
Mothers-In-Law" too. I'm sure there's a few other Desilu shows that dusted him
off for a scene or two. (But why? Like Jeff said, the thing was totally
unproportioned and stupid looking!)

That Seth Taylor sure got around.

Speaking of the Seth Taylor statue, it was used in a Here's Lucy episode. I
don't remember which one but I recall seeing it about a year or so ago and
Lucy was trying to hoist it into her upstairs room. That Seth Taylor sure
gets around good for a dead guy.

One of the most confusing (yet comforting) aspects of
my childhood was having the opportunity to watch
Denver Pyle three times a day as three different
lovable characters - Uncle Jesse; Briscoe Darling; and
Mad Jack on "The Life And Times of Grizzly Adams".

Thanks for bringing up that memory!

and realize that these folks are actors,
have real lives, and owe me nothing as a fan,
including guest appearances, autographs, or even
saying hello on the street. They please me by
allowing me to watch their past performances. I
respect their privacy. Let them live in peace.''
First of all, if I may say, by asking about ron and andy`s appearance(or
lack of it), I was in no way, nor have I ever tried to in any way, invade
their privacy-i`ve never even met either one of them. Just curious if they do
sometimes come to tags reunions and gatherings and I wasnt aware of it, or if
they were even able to visit-I know andy is getting on in years, so was
wandering if maybe he wasnt able-I really didnt know, and was just being
another curious fan along with all the members of the digest-by the way,
another member informed me there was an article in Hunstville paper that andy
had signed away all his rights to tags is why he didnot participate.
It always saddens me when I see or hear about a celebrity saying they dont
owe their fans anything-when they get so big that they think this, they need
to remember if it wasnt for their fans watching their shows, buying their
music, belong to their fan clubs, then they would not be the giants or
successes the fans helped them to become. It would really be sad indeed if
any of my heroes(favorite stars) really thought he was so important and so
hurried that he couldnt say "hi" on the streets or sign an autograph if we
ever did come face-to-face-yes, i`m sorry I do think they owe their fans that
much-not that I`m going to run off and try to chase down Ron and Andy, mind
you for an autograph, but its nice to think that if our paths ever did cross,
they would stop to say hello to a "commoner"

Subject: Comments from Member Feedback and Allan's Response

Hey Folks,

I've gotten only a few responses from my request for feedback about how
things are going here at the WBMUTBB Chapter and the WBMUTBB Digest but the
issues raised were something I felt like needed to be addressed. Here's what
I'm going to do.

I will address the issues here in the Digest but I won't go into too much
detail on the last issue. To get more details, members can head over to "The
Golden Door to Good Fellowship" (GDGF) bulletin board that's been set up for
WBMUTBB Chapter members. There you can ask me questions about the issues if
you'd like and you can read more about some of the issues I feel like might
need more explaining.

   http://www.tagsrwc.com/wbmutbb/goldendoor/page1.html

I hope by doing it this way, we'll be able to put some problems behind us and
allow ourselves to have that special Mayberry feeling continue to grow here
in our little corner of Mayberry.

Now...on to the issues:

ISSUE #1:
I had some members ask for a second mailing list on which they could talk
about issues that aren't allowed here on the WBMUTBB Digest (i.e., negative
feelings about the show, Color vs. B&W episodes, etc.).

ALLAN'S RESPONSE:
There are already several other Mayberry related mailing lists on the
Internet and many of those allow exactly what ISSUE #1 was talking about. You
can find a listing of mailing lists at:
  http://www.tagsrwc.com/sarahs/content/Mayberry_Mailing_Lists.html

Also, there are several bulletin boards that could be used to do this. Even
The Golden Door to Good Fellowship might be able to be used for this type of
discussion so check out some of them at:
  http://www.tagsrwc.com/sarahs/content/Mayberry_Bulletin_Boards.html

ISSUE #2:
This issue was brought up to me by several folks and this one in particular
put it in to words well.
"My only quibble is that a small number of long time members seem to be
somewhat impatient and dismissive of newcomers. I occasionally detect an
"Andier-than-thou" attitude when responding to new people and their
questions."

ALLAN'S RESPONSE:
This is something that I've seen myself and it does need to be addressed. I
will say that it's not just "long time members" that seem to get
impatient...sometimes it's folks that have only been on the Digest for a few
months that don't like the repeated questions/comments of "new" members.

All I can do here is ask that everyone realize that new folks are gonna
repeat questions that you may have seen several times. You know why I know
that? Because most of you have asked the exact same question when you first
signed up for the WBMUTBB Digest.

Remember what it was like for you when you first found this group. It was
great fun to find a bunch of people that shared your love of Mayberry and The
Andy Griffith Show....wow....other folks like me. You had questions; you
wanted to know the answers; you didn't know about the "FAQ" page and didn't
know you could get some of those questions answered there.

It was all new to you and *hopefully* the folks here in our little corner of
Mayberry we kind to you and answered your questions. I hope you'll do the
same for those that came here after you and I hope that the "OLD, OLD,
timers" will keep that Mayberry spirit of extending a hand in mind as they
see the same question asked for the 1000th time.

Nobody has been here longer than me (Bob Bravetti, Kathy Jo and Jack
Fellenzer run a close second) and I hope you all know that I don't mind
answering the questions when I can. I'm sure the other "old timers" here
don't as well so please do read into their answers that they feel "Andy-er
than thou" when they send you to the FAQ page for the answer to your
questions.

ISSUE #3:
I'm not really sure how to address this issue but a few people told me that
they felt like I show "favoritism" toward some members by allowing them to
say things that I don't allow others to get away with.

ALLAN'S RESPONSE:
There are two things here that I'll address quickly and you can read more
about it on the GDGF bulletin board.

First, I do my very best to treat all members the same and I don't have a
reason to show favoritism to anyone. I think that all the WBMUTBB members
have something to add to our little corner of Mayberry. I attempt to be
consistent in the way I deal with people when they "break the rules" on the
Digest.

My normal method is that when I see a post to the Digest that breaks Rule #2
(about staying positive) I send them an email about it reminding them about
the rules. If they continue to post things that break the rule, I say
something on the Digest "in public" so folks will know I'm trying to handle
the situation. If that fails, I fix their posts so I have to review them
before they're posted to the Digest. That's what I do and it's what I've
been doing for years.

Second, I think I need to explain how the WBMUTBB Digest works. The Digest
is "automated" which means that I do NOT (normally) see messages before they
get posted to the Digest. I DO see each post as it is sent to the Digest but
I CAN NOT stop the message from being sent to the Digest unless I've
specifically set it up to require your posts to be "confirmed"...as I
mentioned above (this is something I don't like to do because it means more
work for me).

I don't think folks understand that the Digest works as I described above. I
also don't think that folks realize that things happen behind the scenes of
the Digest with me emailing people on a personal level to remind them about
the rules.

I did ask the members that said I showed favoritism to some go back and give
me some examples of when I did that. There was only one case that they were
able to come up with which made me feel good BUT it still worries me that the
"appearance" or "feeling" was there. I hope I've put some of those concerns
to bed.

Anyway....That's covered fairly well and rather than beat a horse to death,
if you want to know more you'll need to go to the GDGF BB.

Also, if you have any other concerns about WBMUTBB or just want to say you
don't have any...PLEASE email me directly or go to the GDGF BB to let me know.
