Hey, doesn't it seem like the Taylors stayed in lavish hotels when they
traveled? When they went to Hollywood, they had a large lounge type area,
(and you know Andy really didn't want to spend that money to begin with) and
also when they went to the auto show with Goober, they had a large suite.
The explanation is probably just that 1) it's tough to film in a set of a
normal motel room with little room to walk and interact and 2) with the
modesty of that day, Aunt Bee probably required a private room. The only
"normal" motel room I remember was the Mayberry Hotel (and how did 6
Darlings sleep in there?), but there was even a refrigerator in the room
where Barney was given "knockout drops".

Someone asked about main characters in one episode. I just looked that up
in answer to a question about a month ago. It's 8. #125 the Rumor (when
Barney tells everyone Andy and Helen are getting married) and #148 Barney
runs for Sheriff.
(was it 77 cases of malfeasance?) This is according to the table in "Inside
Mayberry" where the appearances of the following " main characters" are
charted.
Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bee, Ellie, Helen, Thelma Lou, Floyd, Gomer, Otis,
Goober, Howard, Emmett. It's interesting to note, that though 7 appeared
several times, many of those were in the later years when that was the whole
cast. Before someone else asks, lets turn this around to the fewest. What
are the episodes with the fewest of the above list appearing?
There are two episodes with 2...and 1 with 1. (hint the two with two take
place mostly outside Mayberry) I'll allow some guesses and then give, or
confirm the answer (no fair peeking).

I noticed recently that one of Opie's friends asked Opie a question and
referred to "his folks" (Andy and Aunt Bee). I assume "folks" just means
any family adults that one lives with? I always thought it just meant
parents.

Wasn't the Goober Mini-marathon on Nick at Night Sunday night cool?
Way to go Andy, You too Helen...see that's the couch I was tellin' you
about.

Frank Meyers was played by comedian Andy Clyde. Luke Jenson was played by
character actor Malcolm Atterbury.

For TV fans, Andy Clyde is known as a costar of two series in the late 50s
and early 60s, "Lassie" and "The Real McCoys." For film fans, Andy was a
comedian of the first order, starring in his own short subject series for
Columbia Studios from the early 30s until the mid 50s; his series ran only a
couple years less than the Three Stooges'. Prior to Columbia, Clyde made was
a frequent player in silent films and early talkies.

You probably recognize him as Amos McCoy's checker playing buddy but right
now I can't think of his name.

Right! That was Ronnie Dapo, and besides playing Arnold Winkler in the
above-mentioned episode, he also appears as Opie's unnamed baseball-pitching
pal in "The Haunted House." Perhaps the boy in this episode was a reformed
Arnold Winkler, or maybe he was a different kid who just looked a lot like
Arnold.

His third appearance is as Opie's friend Pete in "A Baby in the House." The
boys give the baby some blueberry pie. Every once in a while, she makes a
face that looks just like Benjamin Franklin!

It's two different actors. Luke Jenson was played by Malcolm Atterbury, and
Frank Myers was played by Andy Clyde.

Mr. Clyde was also known for his roles on the TV shows "Lassie" and "The
Real McCoys." Before that, he was in some Hopalong Cassidy films.

They've gone and done it!! Gone and made a legend out of us in our own time.

Jan and I went out and found a place to get t-shirts and mouse pads just for
the members of WBMUTBB. This is our fourth set of WBMUTBB tees (we had some
tees made up back in 1996 and sold out pretty quick and again in 1998 and
2000).

What we do is take your orders and then have the tee's made. So get your
order in because we don't order extras...especially of the sweatshirts.

We've been able to keep the prices at the very same level as in 1998 but
don't worry, we're not getting these items from Newton Monroe.

The design hasn't changed from the 2001 version of the shirts so if you have
one from then....don't feel like you need to get one of these to stay with
the crowd. Don't forget that prices include shipping and handling.

We have PLENTY of mouse pads left and let me tell you that they look great.
The mousepad and the design for the back of the tshirts/sweatshirts were done
by WBMUTBB Dennis Atkins.

   DESCRIPTIONS:

The tees are of heavy cotton (similar to "Beefy Tees" in quality and may very
well actually BE "Beefy Tees"), white, and come with a picture of Barney on
the front (where a pocket would be if it had one) along with the words,
"Who's Been Messin' Up the Bulletin Board?"

The sweatshirt will also have the same design on the front. They are white
Fruit of the Loom, 9oz, 90%/10% blend sweatshirts which look very nice and
hold up very well.

The back of the tees and the back of the sweatshirts feature a bulletin board
with papers, hanging randomly, pinned to it. The words "The Andy Griffith
Show Rerun Watchers Club" are above the bulletin board. The papers also have
the words "Who's Been Messin' Up the Bulletin Board?" spelled out across
them.

If you'd like a look at what the designs look like, visit this site on the
WWW:

   http://members.aol.com/anewsome/private/wbmutbbtshirt.htm

Cost of each item is listed below and includes all shipping and handling
charges:

   PRICES:

The cost for the t-shirts:

 $14.50 for S through XL
 $15.50 2XL
 $16.00 3XL
 $17.00 4XL

Cost for the Sweatshirts:

 $21.50 XL
 $23.00 2XL

Cost for the Mousepads

$10.00 each

   HOW TO ORDER:

If you're interested in having one of these shirts or mousepads ---

Email me [ [EMAIL PROTECTED] ] your:
    *Name (First and Last)
*Mailing Address ( where you want the item(s) mailed)
*List of items ( include size(s), description, and cost for each item)

(There's an online form you can just fill out at the URL below:
   http://members.aol.com/anewsome/private/wbmutbbtshirt.htm )

Then -- **MAIL ME** your check for the items you order. My mailing address is
given below.

Jan's gonna be taking the order to the t-shirt shop on Sept. 4th so I need
your orders AND your check by Sept 3rd. I won't cash the check until I have
to pay the t-shirt place but I need the checks in hand before I consider your
order "official." I hope y'all understand why...Jan will kill me if I end up
with several hundred t-shirts sitting around the house. :-)

REMEMBER: The cost shown above includes shipping and handling.

Thanks......

I just saw the episode that Aunt Bee lost her pin...turned it in on
insurance and then found it (one of those color ones you don't see that
often.

>Why did the series recycle the same actors in different roles? A few come
to
>mind:
>The man who played Mr. Foley the butcher who stored Aunt Bees meat when her

>freezer went on the Fritz. He was also on other shows as someone else. Jim
Lindsay

Jim, in addition to the answer already given, I would add that they seemed
to use a pool of actors that were "knowns" who were available. One
gentleman you mentioned, Alvin Melvin, did indeed play eight different parts
on the Griffith Show..but did you know that that is not the most? I always
thought he was Mr. Versatile and noone played more different roles that he
did...but check out Mary Lansing! She played 12 different roles on her 15
appearances, though some were very short...where Allen often played a major
part (Fred Plummer). She is probably best know as Mrs. Martha Clark, and
Mrs. Lukens (the Bed Jacket). The list of these multiple role actors is
very long. (sorry to be repetitive here, I had this already mostly composed
and just saw Paul's answer). Even Miss Rosemary (Amzie Strickland) played 4
different roles on her 5 appearances.

I think the most interesting contrast in characters played is Reta Shaw, who
played the gruff Maude Tyler (aka Ralph Henderson) and Miss. Poultice the
voice teacher.

The actor that played Luke Jensen (Malcom Atterbery) did not appear in any
other episodes (someone asked that)

Ponder this--The Wizard of OZ starring all TAGS stars: Dorothy--Ellie
Walker, Scarecrow--Don Knotts Tin-man--Jim Nabors, Cowardly Lion--Hal
Smith (Otis), Glenda the Good Witch--Frances Bavier, Mayor of
Munchkinland--Mayer Pike
How would you cast it?

We defy the Mafia!--The Untrained Voice
