Dear TAGS friends Why did the series recycle the same actors in different
roles? A few come to mind....
>>>
Well, for one reason, way back before video tape and syndication, it was
much less likely that viewers would have noticed. It's hard for younger
viewers to imagine this, but believe it or not, in the 1960s you could only
watch The Andy Griffith Show ONCE a week! Now that we can watch the same
episodes as many times as we want (and in any ORDER we want), it's much more
obvious. Some actors (nost notably Bob McQuain and Mary Lansing) played
more than a dozen different characters! Allen Melvin comes in third, with
eight (usually tough bad guys).
Also, imagine yourself as the casting director. Suppose an episode was
coming up, and you needed to hire an actor to play, let's say, a policeman.
Wouldn't it be much easier (and less risky) to hire someone whom you KNEW
would be great in that role, rather than to hire an actor you knew nothing
about? By hiring someone who had worked in a previous episode, you wouldn't
have to audition them or anything. It would be a real time-saver.

I took the kids to see Osmosis Jones last night, and one of the characters
sure sounded familiar. In fact, he also looked a little familiar, even given
the fact that he was playing a white blood cell (with reddish eyebrows). He
went by the name of Tom Colonic, and was voiced by none other than Ron Howard.

I think the most obvious sign that there wasn't supposed to be a specific
denomination is in the name of the church itself: "All Souls Church." Then
again, maybe it was one of those unitarian or non-denominational churches.

the woodshed (?) behind the courthouse. How many episodes was that kid on ?

I went to see the movie "Rat Race" with a fellow WBMUTBB'er today ... and to
our surprise, Rance Howard was in the film! Now I won't spoil the fun by
telling you about his performance, but it's always good seeing Mr. Howard up
there on the big screen. "Rat Race" is a cute, funny movie along the lines of
"It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World'' for those of you interested in seeing it.

While listening to my local Christian staion this
week, they had an interview with Jaime Fann(hope I have
that correct) and he was talking about his new book
and about TAGS and the life lessons that were
presented on each episode.Really enjoyed hearing what
he had to say and can't wait to buy the book.
In regard to recycling actors or doubling up
characters, what about when Howard Morris was the tv
repairman when Andy and Helen were trying to have a
quiet day together.Barney took him out to the lake to
get the okay to"take the set in".

TAGS Fans Invited to Help Write a Tribute to Mayberry
ChristianActivities.com in conjunction with the Christian Activities Mayberry
Forum is sponsoring the Mayberry Poem - A Tribute to Mayberry.
The Mayberry Poem is an activity anyone who is familiar with The Andy
Griffith
Show can participate in. TAGSRWC and WBMUTBB members are invited to add a
verse
or two! Verses can be humorous or inspiring -- they just have to be about
Mayberry, The Andy Griffith Show, or about any of the characters on the
show.
Verses must be in the clean wholesome, family-value spirit of Mayberry with no
offensive or mean-spirited comments.
Aspiring poets are invited to post their verses directly into the poem so they
can watch it take shape right before their eyes on the Mayberry USA Forum,
located at http://pub79.ezboard.com/fchristiancelebritiesactorssportsfrm13.

I thought I'd let everyone know about the first "Mayberry Night at the
Ballpark" in Knoxville, Tennessee this Thursday, August 23. The event
will be held at the Tennessee Smokies Baseball Stadium which is located
right off of I-40 exit 407 (Sevierville - Pigeon Forge exit). The gates
open at 5:30 pm and the game begins at 7:15 pm. Three local
impersonators (Barney, Floyd and Otis) will be on hand to gas it up with
the folks in the audience. There will be ongoing trivia contests and a
whole Mayberry theme to the game. Knoxville's "Mayberry" chapter will be
on hand to provide support and will have a table set up behind home plate
in the concourse area to give out information about both TAGSRWC and our
local chapter. Ticket prices are reasonable (I don't have the exact
figure). If you're in the area, stop by and say "hey"!

My son and his wife had a bible study at a new friend's house last week and
spotted one of the opening scene black and whites hanging on the wall.
Underneath it was a card that said "To Larry, Andy Griffith."
I told my son to find out how his friend got that since Andy signing
autographs is a rare thing and unless he got it personally, it could be a
fake.
Turns out when the friend was about 4, he lived out toward the NC coast and
his family ran into Andy at a restaurant and Andy signed the card for the
little fella.

...don't forget about Frankie Flint's daddy (I think he was played by R. G.
Armstrong), who's referred to only as Flint or "old man" Flint. I don't think
they ever mention his first name.

I enjoy reading all of the books of Lewis Grizzard.
This past weekend I was in the Official Lewis Grizzard
Web site reading archives of his newspaper columns.
I found a most entertaining column he wrote explaining
Andy, Barney and Mayberry. The name of the column was
See This Badge? Watch Your Step In My Fife-Dom.
If you want to read it it is at

I saw the Andy episode where Andy and the gang fix up Mr. Meyers home. The
man who played Mr. Meyers looks very familiar. I was wondering if this was
the same man who played Luke Jenson, the near-sighted man who got tangled up
with an old bull?
