Subject: Coincidence?
I experienced a lovely coincidence last evening. I had received in the
mail an old TV Guide from E-Bay and was searching for the TAGS listing.
It was "Only a Rose" and that's the same episode we were watching at
that minute on TVLand. It happens to be one of my all-time favorite
episodes so we were really tickled!!!

I don't remember which episodes it was, but I believe Aunt Bee or Clara
mentioned having a friend or relation that had moved to South Bend Indiana.
I think this is also mentioned in one of the many TAGS books I have.

Larry in Oklahoma"
Good idea, Larry! Two that I can think of off the top of my head (I've
misplaced my thinkin' bucket) are "Aunt Bee Learns to Drive" and "Aunt Bee's
Big Moment" (where she learns to fly). I can't explain why I like these so
much...I just do! And then there's the scene of Andy trying to dance in
"Look Paw, I'm Dancing"...that's a funny one! And I like "The Gypsies"
because I like seeing Klinger as a Gypsy! :-D

Yes indeed! The no negativity rule makes this place a very
important place on the net, Allan, and to everyone. A place
without cynicism, a place unique to the net with warmth and
compassion. Not unlike Mayberry itself, the show, TAGSRWC and
Mayberry Days, which all, to me, go hand in hand.
Sure, a true examination of TAGS characters, writing and direction
would include comments of things that could have been better, in
our opinion, but to me that's not this place. It's a community,
one that I'm really starting to appreciate. And I think A.N.
founded it to be an appreciation society as much as anything.
When he says its important to be nice about things otherwise
it snaps us back to reality, I agree, but in a way, this is also
reality, a nicer reality, that truly exists in those here who like
that when I read WBMUTBB, it will be pleasant above all else.
I wouldn't want to hear anything bad about my favorite character
that not on many peoples fave list, Howard Sprague, that's right.
Howard.
He really has his funny moments, but you really gotta study him.
and let his likable dorkiness make the humor. Kinda like gomer but
more courageous. And always fair. not many people like that.

I know you shouldn't beat a dead horse, but here goes.
I'd like to express my opinion on TAGS tapes.
1. Columbia House tapes are excellent, but expensive.
B. The cheap tapes are full of eps, but poor quality.
3. Buy what you can afford.
Me, personally, I've got 18 of the 20 Columbia House
tapes, with the other 2 on the way, and I've got about
20 of the "cheap" tapes, and I've got about 4 DVD's,
and I love them all.
Cheap tapes are like a Yugo. Columbia House tapes are
like a Cadillac. Both do the same job, (getting you
where you want to go), one's just a little more fancy.
Mr. Schwump
P.S. If Columbia House ever comes out with TAGS on
DVD, sure, I'll probably buy all of them too.

Subject: Anybody have any original Airings on tape?
With all the talk about Columbia House and videos lately it got me to thinking.
Do any of you out there happen to have tapes of any of the episodes the way
they were originally aired (with commercials, etc)? I'd LOVE to see some
of these! I'd be more than happy to pay for tapes, etc for anyone who
would be willing to make me copies of any original episodes you
have. Please contact me if you can help on this one.
As for the Columbia House tapes, as everyone has already said the quality
on all of them is EXCELLENT and you definitely get what you pay for. If we
want to see more of them then people need to BUY them and not complain
about the prices (though I'll admit they are a bit pricey). I'm also a
member of the I Love Lucy DVD Collectors Edition they put out, and I know
on that they said they had to have 2000 subscribers to continue the
series. They ended up with 2,500 and are planning to release the whole
series on DVD. Basically I figure the numbers are probably about the same
for TAGS, so it looks like less than 2,000 people are subscribing to the
TAGS video series :-(.

>>> Many TAGS "classics" (both color & B&W) have been overlooked [by
Columbia House] in favor of episodes that are, in my opinion, mediocre. The
best videos I have found are those that were offered by Premier Promotions
several years ago.
>>>
Look at it this way: if the first few tapes had all of the "best" episodes,
then every time a new tape came out, folks would complain that the new tapes
weren't as good as the earlier ones. IMO Columbia House is doing a great
job of mixing the episodes, although (again IMO) it would have been best to
start with episode number 1 and issue all 249 in chronological correct
order. Maybe they'll do that eventually if the tapes continue to sell well.
If I could make one suggestion for improvement to Columbia House, it would
be that the box artwork is rather unattractive. UAV's tapes weren't of very
good quality, but their boxes were very colorful and displayed nicely.
I too have a lot of the old Premiere Promotions tapes, and while they are
better than some of the other "store bought" tapes, they're still not nearly
as good as the CH tapes. On the PP tapes, the first few seconds of nearly
every episode is badly garbled, several of the episodes have missing scenes,
and about 25% of them have the wrong closing credits (for some bizarre
reason a great many have the credits from "Opie Loves Helen").

To Jason, who inquired about negativity on the digest:
Someone here recently referred me to
www.jumptheshark.com. What a great site! Go to the
A-Z section, and find TAGS, under A. Some really
great input. To me, this is the best of both worlds,
reading this here great digest (WBMUTBB) is like an
interesting sermon at church (unlike Rev. Tucker's dry
as dust style), where we're respectful on Sunday
morning. And reading the quotes at jumptheshark.com
is like hanging with Otis on a Friday night, gettin' a
snootful, as well as hangin' with "those gossipin'
women" in Mayberry. Kind of a place to let your hair
down, and really discuss all aspects of the show, no
holds barred. This dichotomy, or 2 worlds, of TAGS
let's me exercise my Dr. Jeckyl, and Mr. Hyde
personalities. There are some great discussions on
thousands of other shows as well at jumptheshark.
Check out the section on Ted McGinley & Scott Baio.
Seems that every show they appear on is the kiss of
death for the show. Interesting stuff. But the
TAGSRWC and WBMUTBB are by far the most detailed TAGS
sites on the web. Kudos to everyone involved. I
don't mind obeying their rules....stretching them a
bit, but obeying!

Caught the episode of Old Sam last night. Haven't watched that one in a while.
At the
end Goober tells Opie that is going to Warrior River next week and ask if he
wants to
go. Well there is a Warrior river in Alabama and it would be fairly close to
Jasper
where George Lindsey is from.
