"Well put, Barney. Well put!" This is obviously a young 'un whose parents
read every book on the subject of child rearin' and learned about bud
nippin'!

I think the reason most of the bachelors lived the way they did in
Mayberry is that typically, at least in those days, most single men
believed in living rather frugally until they married. Remember Andy's
reply to Opie about things being different when Peggy arrived in Aunt
Bee's absence: "There's a woman in the house!"

So many of the color episodes are soooo funny, but I think it goes like this
for me:
1. Dinner At Eight
2. Goober Makes History
3. Class Reunion (where Barney comes back and finds out that Thelma Lou is
married!)

There are some great lines in the color episodes too. Anyone want to share
some of their favorite color lines?

The other day our little dog got in a dogfight and lost. She was kinda sore
and had a few cuts on her. Our other dog came over and start checking her
over. As she was doing that I said before I even new it, "Dogs, they take
care of their own". And my son said, "Not giraffes. Boy are they selfish!" By
the way, the little dog is ok.............

Well, whenever Barney and Thelma Lou ate at the diner, he did always order
the special. "She as much as said I was cheap!"

Friends,

My family would like to thank you all for a wonder year here in Mayberry! You
are all blessings in my life. Jan, Adam and I would thank you all for sharing
the joy of Mayberry with us throughout the year.

As a word of warning, there is music on the Christmas card page (don't want
anybody jumping out of their skin when the music begins to play) and you'll
need to have the ability to play "Flash" animation in your browser.

Merry Christmas and may God bless you greatly during this wonderful time of the
year.

>>> ... it seemed strange that Barney, a civil servant, lived either in the
back of the courthouse, or in a 1
room apartment at Mrs. Bendlemrights boarding house, while Thelma Lou, who
no one knows what her last name
was, or where she was employed, lived in a very nice house. The same goes
for Helen, who also lived very
comfortably on public school teacher's pay.
>>>

It does seem a bit odd, doesn't it? Perhaps all of the young single ladies
in Mayberry have rich fathers. We know for certain that Peggy McMillan
does, but we never learn anything about Thelma Lou's, Ellie's, Mary's, or
Helen's parents. It's possible that they could all have inherited money.

As for Barney, we're told in "The Clubmen" that he regularly sends money to
his mother; perhaps this is one reason why he doesn't live in a larger place
(maybe he sends her 50% or more of his paycheck). His father may be
deceased - this is implied in #82 "Class Reunion" when Barney shows Andy his
"daddy's rock." In #90 "Barney's First Car," the fact that he bought his
parents a septic tank as an anniversary gift seems to indicate he had died
in the past year.

OK - I'll play - Here's myTop 10 color episode picks:
Malcolm at the Crossroads (that Englishter took ErnestT's job)
Wyatt Earp Rides Again (do not besmirtch the name of Earp)
Eat your Heart Out (Goober falls for Flora - Flora falls for Andy)
Goober's Replacement (Flora takes Goober's job - chalk one up for Women's Lib
- but the ending was the coolest part - Flora decides that being FEMININE was
a lot more fun than being FEMINIST and I concur)
The Barbershop Quartet (a lesson in trust)
The Darling Fortune ( "Omen of the Owl" - Rodney & Helen - what a HOOT)
Mind Over Matter (Goober staying at the Taylors with his "injury")
Dinner & Eight ("I'm going to eat my THIRD supper, then I'm coming back and
I'm gonna kill you")
Goober the Executive (Andy & Emmett co-sign for Goober to buy Wally's
station)
A Girl for Goober (computer date for Goober - this episode touched me - had a
good message)
Goober Linda - I ain't no Rockyfeller

I don't recall Goober's home, apartment or whereever he stayed.
I call say, that in Mayberry RFD, Goober lived in a boarding house
next door to his station. That is, after he moved his station into
town. It helped to make the comic happenings and gatherings there
more feasible.

As for my faves in color, Howard had some funny ones,
- When his mom got married and he created his bachelor pad.
- When he catches OLD SAM, the fish, and later releases him.
- When he runs against Aunt Bee for a council seat.

As much a fan of TAGS as I am, I still come across some color ones
that i haven't seen. Especially good just the other night on
TVLAND, an episode reminiscent of Convicts at Large.

Andy goes on a hunt for some robbers in woods, gets caught thanks
to Otis' liquor supply, the Howard tries to save Andy and gets
caught, then Otis shows up and "saves" them both, tho' quite tipsy.
Really quite funny,

"I gettin' along fine, I'm gettin' along just fine!!"

Hi TAGS fans! There seems to be a big debate over the color episodes of TAGS &
the BW ones.Personally I think the color episodes are disliked the most cause
Don Knotts is missing from most of them.I enjoy anything Mayberry so it does'nt
matter that much to me.I even enjoy watching Mayberry RFD.Does anyone out there
in TAGS land know if Mayberry RFD is on Video?I would like to purchase some!
Big Mayberry fan! Mark L.J. B'ham Al.

A friend sent me a hoax the other day. Doing some research
will always save heartache later. If you too got the
Delete Sulfbnk email and did so - do this:

Restoring Sulfnbk.exe

How to repair damage from a hoax

SULFNBK.EXE, a utility shipped as part of the Windows 98
operating system that allows users to restore long file
names, and now the victim of a bogus virus warning. The
hoax message urges users to search their systems for the
presence of SULFNBK.EXE and, if found, delete it. Of
course, it's a
legitimate Win98 operating system file, so anyone running
Windows 98 will find it. And many, it seems, have deleted
it. Following are the steps to take to restore SULFNBK.EXE
from your Windows 98 operating system CD. You will want to
have your Windows 98 operating CD in the CD-ROM drive bay.
If the program autoruns (launches), just click Exit.

                                     Windows 98

Windows 98 includes a handy tool known as the System File
Checker which can be used to restore damaged or deleted
files. To open SFC, click "Start" | "Run" and type "SFC"
without the quotes. Click "OK". System File Checker will
launch a dialogue box with two choices. Choose "Extract one
file from installation disk".

In the "Specify the system file you would like to restore"
box, type "sulfnbk.exe" (without the quotes). Click
"Start".

You will be prompted to specify the location that contains
the file you want to extract and the destination directory
for that file. You will need to input the "Restore from"
location and the "Save file in" location.

"Restore from" will be the win98 folder on your Windows 98
operating system CD. It is easiest and most accurate to use
the "Browse" button to locate and select the folder. The
"Save file in" destination folder is the Windows directory
and Command subdirectory. For example,

C:\WIN98\COMMAND

When both boxes have been filled in, click OK. You should
receive a message stating "The file has been successfully
extracted". Click OK and close any remaining SFC dialog
boxes.

Subject: Jellico Christmas Parade Sunday, Dec. 9

This is to let everyone know of a BIG event this Sunday, December 9. The
Knoxville, Tennessee "Mayberry" Chapter is cooperating with some fine
Mayberry folks in Jellico, TN to be a parade entry in the Jellico
Christmas Parade in Jellico, TN. The parade itself starts at 2:30 pm
this Sunday, Dec. 9 in Jellico. We will have local Jellico folks dress
up as many of the TAGS characters, Floyd's Barbershop built on a float
complete with 3 chairs (no waiting), a squad car pulled by Wally's
Service Wrecker, the Darling's truck with Darling look-alikes playing
their stringin' instruments in the back and much, much more. We will
even have Otis leading a donkey which will look like a reindeer. I will
be Mr. McBeevee with my hard hat and tool belt (with 12 extra hands).
I'm trying to learn how to get smoke to come out of my ears too. We'll
have Mayberry themed music to accompany us as well as local Barney and
Floyd imitators gassing it up with the crowd.

We'll have Andy, Opie, Leon, Goober, Gomer, All the Darlings, Aunt Bee,
Clara Edwards, Otis, Ernest T, mayor and family, Helen, banner carriers,
some Mayberry citizens. We will line up Sunday Dec. 9th - 1:30 PM .

Directions to Jellico Parade:

Take Jellico Exit on I-75 North stay right circle back under interstate
bridge toward town. Approx. one fourth mile over top of hill go thru
traffic light and we will line up at the Union Bankon right side of
street. You can't miss it.

We hope to see all the Mayberry fans across East Tennessee there. Be
sure to say "Hey" when you see us there.
