I watched part an old 'News Radio' episode last night and there was George
Lindsey testifying in court about whether a "skull" was his skull or not.
Now keep in mind the defense attorney was asking him if it was "his" skull,
not something he dug up, but the skull that was in his head at that moment.
The attorney handed Goober the skull, Goober looked it it over and said
"No." Has anyone else seen this episode? It is hilarious if you get the
chance to see it. Mr. Lindsey did all the old Goober mannerisms that we
love. He thanked the judge when he was finished testifying, and did that
little finger pointing thing he did in TAGS, and makes that noise with his
mouth. The funny thing was the judge did it back to him. Just a wonderful
moment for all us Mayberry fans. Just wonderful! News Radio is on A&E
every night at 6:30 EST. Hope you get to see it.

Jim

Hi TAGS fans! I was wondering if anyone has two episodes out there that I need
to finish my TAGS collection. The episodes are color ones-"Opie Finds A
Baby","Opie Steps Up In Class".I have been trying to tape them from TV Land, but
they are showing the color episodes out of order & skipping episodes.I also
have been trying to tape them from a local channel , but they are not showing
there's in order either.I don't think these episodes are available on any Video
Sales Co.cause all the ones I check online do not have these shows listed.I
would appreciate any info on this someone out there could help me with! Mark

>>>Hey Paul, I think we're stuck on the I-states. Ready to give us the next
group?

I guess it's time to move one. For Illinois, we came up with two or three
references to Chicago and we also got a possible for Indiana, but we didn't
get any at all for Idaho or Iowa.

Next: Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana. These aren't too tough; I can think of
at least two for each state off the top of my head.

Hey Folks,

I know many of you are familiar with a web site called www.tvparty.com.
While browsing around on there the other day, I came across a fascinating
commercial I never knew existed!

Just about everybody knows that back in the good old days when one sponsor
paid for an entire program, the stars of the program actually appeared in
the commercials. In TAGS' case, the sponsor was General Foods. Andy and
Barney and the gang did spots for JELL-O pudding, Post cereals, and Sanka
coffee, to name a few. About a dozen of these commercials are known to have
survived, one of which can be downloaded from tvparty.

Now, on to the part that caught me by surprise. Carol Channing did a TV
special for CBS in 1966, and throughout the program, she plugged various GF
products by dropping in on the stars of other CBS shows. She stops by the
Mayberry Courthouse and has a cup of Sanka with Andy, then she enjoys a bowl
of cereal with Gomer at the Marine base, a glass of Tang with Oliver and
Lisa in Hooterville, then she travels all the way to Stalag 13 for some
JELL-O with Colonel Hogan and the gang.

To get to these commercials, go to www.tvparty.com and click the picture
from Hogan's Heroes where it says "when stars did the commercials."
Unfortunately, due to an apparent technical glitch on their end, the
downloads don't seem to work
very well. I had to try several times, but I finally got the TAGS spot to
play (still trying on the others).

"A friend told me about the following "political" cartoon:

Whoever drew this one hit the nail on the proverbial head. Of course, that
would be a $97.00 nail. I'll take it in cash.

It wasn't "TAGS" proper, but I believe Goober performed magic tricks at Mike
Jones' birthday party on "R.F.D."

Cousin Virgil knew a card trick although I wouldn't exactly call it magic.
It was a good trick until he dropped the cards.
Another magic feat was performed by Ernest T. Bass. He kept mysteriously
getting in and out of jail.
I supposed "Shubum Shubum Shubam" could be considered "black magic" - anyway
- it scared the mulberry squeezins out of Briscoe, Charlene and the boys.
How about when Charlene buried the owl feather - tooth of comb and stuff so
she could divorce Dud and teach him a lesson he'd never forget? That was
kind of magical (wish I could have gotten rid of my first husband that
easily).
Goober did some magic tricks at Mike's birthday in Mayberry RFD - cracked
eggs in his hat and pulled out a bunch of rabbits.
The biggest magic of all is Mayberry itself - it's pure magic how we can
disappear into this magical town and become magical citizens. Have I used
the word magical enough? I thought so.

David Browne did some "slight of hand" to make Andy's nickel disappear.
("Opie's Hobo Friend") Was that the same episode that Opie did a magic
trick that Barney said he could do (but didn't?)

Hey Everyone! Wasn't it Barney that suggested if Sherman (one of the
moonshiner's caught in "Aunt Bee, the Warden) could have been a dentist if
his"twig had been bent another way"? The "Mr. Potato Set" was a sure cure
for his criminal tendencies!! Also don't forget Aunt Bee's "pseudo"
boyfriend, Mr. Hendrick's.... he was a "Butter and Egg" man. Wasn't the
Widow Saunder's boyfriend a dish towel salesman? I didn't like that Plummer
fellow that did sweep up for Foley's Market; he was a grouchy kind of
guy...no wonder he had a job sweeping up at his age ...NO people skills!

Hey everybody,
I've been a member for about a month now and I'm enjoying reading the
discussions. I finally have a few comments of my own to offer!

I was listening to the Alan Jackson song today called "Its all right to
be a redneck". It has one line which sez something like "its alright to
have a girl named Thelma Lou." Do you spose Alan is a TAGS fan? or
maybe the songwriter was..it was fun to hear, but I never really thought
of Barney or Andy as being a redneck, whaddya think??

Also there was a tidbit in my new Rosie magazine - -
In commercials, the voice of Mayor McCheese and the Hamburglar were done
by Howard Morris, who portrayed Ernest T. Bass, the mountain man on The
Andy Griffith Show.

Maybe y'all knew that, but it was news to me!

Our letter "X" comes from the Greek letter "Chi", and was the first letterin
the word "christos" which was of course "Christ". Using an "X" for "Christ"
is actually an early Christian tradition. In the beginning days of the
church, believers would mark an "X" on the ground outside of homes where
Christians met for worship. During times of persecution, when believers
were driven to meet in secret places, "X" would be marked on the walls of
caves and catacombs to let other believers know Christians met there. The
fish symbol would later come to be used in the same way, but the use of "X"
has continued throughout church history.

I'm not offended by the use of "Xmas" because I know the true meaning of
it's origin and it also reminds me of the Cross.
