Danny,
If I am not mistaken, they are Blue Willow. They were a very popular pattern
of the era. My Great-grandmother had a set. I have some of her original
pieces which were purchased sometime in the '50's. There are many modern
versions of Blue Willow - I got a set with the more modern style of coffee
cups when I married in 1984, and I have seen them many times since. The
older pieces can be found in most any antique shop in the California
foothills of the Sierra Nevada, though they are not really rare. I believe
the collectors value is in the sentimental value put on them by people such
as myself who connect them to wonderful memories; in my case, TWO great
memories - great-grandma's house, and TAGS!
My best to you and yours!

Subject: Ken Barry's dancing

I wanted to respond to something that Joe (The Untrained Voice) wrote: "Sam
Jones (Ken Berry) must be a very accomplished dancer
because I've seen him perform in a couple of different episodes..."

Some years ago, I went to see Ken Barry in a stage production of "Yankee Doodle
Dandy," (I *think* that was the title) about George M. Cohan. This was the
same play that was also made into a movie with Jimmy Cagney playing the same
role as Ken did on the stage. Anyway, Ken is very much the accomplished
dancer. He can tap-dance like nobody's business! I also remember, when I was
still a kid living at home, watching him on the occasional variety show,
tap-dancing. He was (and maybe still is) wonderful!

Has anyone mentioned voice teacher Miss Eleanor
Poultice? She was played by Reta Shaw who also played
Big Maude Tyler the escaped prisoner.

Have a Mayberry Day,

Am I right that Jack Dodson (Howard) went on to play Ralph's dad who was
a dentist on "Happy Days"? I know he played a doctor of some sort.

This Kentucky native knows another Kentucky reference! Boy ... I always
forget the title of this episode, but it's the one where Barney thinks he's
hypnotised Otis in the cell, and Otis is pretending to tell him where a
moonshine still is. The directions take Barney up through West Virginia, over
to Kentucky, down through Tennessee and back over to ... Barn's house! :)

The Bluegrass state is always such a nice route to Mayberry. ;)

Have a good holiday and MaybERRY Christmas!

Subject: Oh Christmas Tree

PS: with Christmas upon us we all hear a lot of
Christmas music no doubt, and the other day I
heard an
instrumental version of O Tannenbaum...everytime
I hear
that song, in my head I sing Floyd's rendering
of Ms.
Mayberry. LOL!!!!

I do the exact same thing! Was going through
the grocery store the other day and this song
was playing & I was quietly singing "Hail to
thee, Miss Mayberry" to myself. Well, I don't
know if my son heard me or not, but he
said "That's Oh, Chistmas Tree." I looked him
straight in the eye and said, "No, it's not!
It's 'Hail to thee, Miss Mayberry'." and
proceeded to sing it a little louder.

"Hail to thee, Miss Mayberry
Hail to thee, all hail..."

When Barney writes Gomer the first ticket in "Citizen's Arrest," Gomer
mumbles something under his breath and Barney says "What was that?" I
can't figure out what Gomer replies. It sounds like "You just go off and
I didn't holler fish![???] I said it and I ain't taken it back,
neither." Anybody know what he says and what it means?

Alan Jackson is well-known as a TAGS fan. In his "Where I Come From" he
says Barney pulled him over for speeding. I was disappointed when he
said I Love Lucy Reruns in his song about 9-11 instead of Mayberry but
maybe he was afraid of saturation. Aunt Bee of Orlando

Subject: Barney's microphone at the Christmas cantata

A great friend of mine is singing a solo at our Christmas cantata Sunday night.
Now, she has the prettiest voice in the choir in my opinion, but I had to
tease her a little at our last practice when she was having a little voice
trouble and asked me if she sounded ok when she sang her song. I sweetly
confirmed that she sounded fine, and then not-so-sweetly told her that we were
going to get her a special Barney Fife microphone anyway, so not to worry
about how she would sound. She is a fan of TAGS too, so she understood what I
was talking about, but I think we're still friends! :) Just wanted to share
that little TAGS moment...Lisa

Hellooo Dolll,

I was sitting here contemplating, and I thought I would put this question
out to everyone in Mayberry:

Out of all of Mayberry's citizens, who would you want to date, and why?

For Fun Girl good times, Gomer and Goober would be a hoot (Judy, Judy,
Judy). For more serious intents, Andy or Howard. To me they were the
most logical and sensible thinking men in Mayberry and both were
capable of being fun and interesting.

How about everybody else?

As for cast members in commercials, does anybody else remember Andy doing
the commercial for Ritz crackers.... "mmmmmm good cracker......" I
believe this was post TAGS and GPUSMC.

Regarding country music artists and their regard for TAGS, remember the
Bellamy Bros song "I wish life were like The Andy Griffith Show". Also I
read years ago that Travis Tritt had a beagle whom he named Otis.

Fun Girl

I would like to thank everyone for the magic in Mayberry references, I
didn't think there would be so many. I guess you can find anything in
Mayberry.
Speaking of magic, I wish each and everyone a very magical and merry
Christmas and a very happy New Year.
