There really does seem to be a favorite scene in every episode. And that
makes it difficult to think of one, but two come to mind for me. The first
is where Ernest T. wants to join the army so he can get a uniform to get a
girl. Andy is talking to Ernest T. about trying to get a girl. Ernest T.
had been wanting to court Hog Winslow's daughter, Hogette. (Hogette is a
French name, according to Ernest T. You have to be listening close to hear
that line!) He threw a rock through her window and hit her on the head.
Andy tells Ernest T. to try again, but don't throw any rocks. Ernest T.
says he can't because she went and married the taxidermist what sewed up
her head. No matter how many times I hear that line, I laugh out loud.

Another is when Gomer and Barney are on a lookout on the top of the
courthouse. (I don't know what episode.) They see what they think are the
"crooks" and Gomer tells Barney they better call the law. When Barney
says, "We are the law!" . . .it's a priceless moment for me.

Did TV Land cut the part where the Andy shows Rafe the thermometer?
Something like:
Andy: Let's you know how hot you are.
Rafe: I know when I am hot, I'm dang hot.

That line rates right up there with "Boy giraffes are selfish!" , as far as I
am concerned...

I picked up a copy of Sport Illustrated this week at the doctor's office
(She's got the magazines to swing it). On the cover was a story about a
Jinx!. I don't know why they didn't show Henry Bennett on the cover, but
instead it's a black cat.

The story is about Sports Illustrated's so-called "Cover Jinx". The story
is about all of the athletes and their teams who've had bad luck within a
few weeks of being on the SI cover. (everything for losing to being injured
etc.). The case of the SI jinx is much more compelling than the case of
Henry Bennett, let me tell you (just check out the story). Even NFL MVP
Kurt Warner refused to be on the cover with his number 13 jersey and the
black cat ("that's a little too spooky") Warner is quoting as saying.

So...Barney take heart...Buzz Fluehart was right about them atmospheric
forces. Winkin Blinkin nodimous Rex, Save us all from the terrible Hex.

My son is now 2 years old and we watch Ange every night at 10 on TV Land,
its funny to see his eyes light up when the whistling starts. I was thinking
the other night of how I was planning on using Andys ideas to bring up the
youngin and try to keep the tradition going to where his kids will watch. I
would hate to ponder the thought of no more TAGS, it would make Mr Darling

>>>Hey Folks,

Just wanted to let you know that I've added a story called "The Mayberry
Hillbillies" to the TAGSRWC websites "Fan Fiction" area.

http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/fanfiction.htm

What if the Darlings knew the Clampets and they came to visit in Mayberry?
Enjoy.--Allan<<<<

Let me be one of the first to congratulate Chester Morton aka the Sleuth on
a great story that Allan mentioned in the above post. Being a fellow Fan
Fiction writer, I checked it out right away. Chester followed my personal
rules of Fan Fiction such as "be true to the characters" and "Don't repeat
dialogue already done, just in a different setting"
His story is very plausible and believable based on the characters
and scenes he used. It also has a good storyline and is easy to follow.
Check it out! Good job Sleuth!

May I also add something about one of my stories there. We had a recent
discussion about race in Mayberry that turned ugly in one post, so I waited
a while to mention this. In my Fan Fiction efforts I always try to fill in
gaps...and one of those was to write another story that featured an African
American character prominently. If interested, after you read Chester's
story, check out "Basketball Regional or Bust"

The recent Movie "Remember the Titans" illustrated how we were just working
though racial barriers even in the 70's..so no wonder if was a tough topic
in the Griffith years.

I think some of Opies's quotes are priceless! What a great actor he was for
being so young! I love at the end of "Keeper Of The Flame" when he says
"Hmm..he ain't so dumb". Talking about his Dad. And in the episode with the
brat when Andy asks Opie "Don't you think he deserves it?" (when the brats Dad
takes him to the good old fashioned wood house) and Opie say "I'd rather not
say...after all... he is one of my own kind."
To Paul: My friends that live across the street from Aunt Bee's house had told
me that the cats (LOTS OF THEM!) had been taken in by various people in town
but I will write her and ask her if she knows if any are still alive. Being
the very inquisitive type that I am, when I was in Siler City (not wanting to
waste the trip) I visited everyone I could think of that could tell me all
about her...the funeral home people, the neighbors, the people in restaurants
& stores and yes I even went to the police department and questioned the
sheriff! (I told you I was inquisitive) And what was so remarkable is that
they were all so nice. I would have thought some of them would have told me to
get lost but they all talked to me & told me stories and were all very nice. I
plan on taking a trip up there again one day. It was very interesting.

One of my favorites is the darlings first visit to Mayberry, Briscoe has the
one room with himself and 5 others (the four boys and Charlene). I laugh
hysterically when the boys are trying to pull the chello through the window
and Briscoe's head is stuck. he says" sl,, sl... slack off!!! slack off!!!,
you skwish'n me!!!"
also in another Darling episode titled "Briscoe declares for Aunt Bee" when
he's going to show aunt be his bulging muscle when he lifts the bed, one of
the boy's is on the bed and he says "GET OFF" and shoos him. I laugh
hysterically.
Every time barney says "you spend two hours polishing your hat and shoes, get
your suit pressed and ppppllllltthhhh (harsh rasberry) like all of you a few
of many scenes

Hey Paul,

It seems like we're stuck on some of those "N" states like North Dakota.
Are we ready to move On? Also I have a suggestion. When you list the next
bunch could you recap the states that we never found a reference to...so us
trained noticers can keep watchin' for 'em.

There have been so many good topics lately that I kinda lost my place in the
game. The Digest is a good as ever after all these years with lots of good
topics, memories, and ideas.

In the Movie "No Time for Sergeants" Andy is the star, Don Knotts is funny
as one of the doctors. Dub Taylor (Emmett's Bro-in-Law, Preacher who
performed Mountain Wedding, and 2 different postmen)) is great at the Govt.
recruiter. Are there other stars in the movie who later appeared on TAGS??

Now boys the key to the whole thing is all them zeros!(Goober when Andy gets
the $1,000 check)

I thought I would bring up an interesting couple of things. one question.
I noticed, the taylors having two different addresses. In Aunt Bee's medicine
man she tells the "colonel" that the address is 322 Maple, which is the know
address and seemingly most popular. However in the episode titled "Jailbreak"
the FBI guy "Horton" in the very beginning asks Barney what Sheriff Taylors
address is. Barney says 24 Elm St? Whats the deal?
another thing I noticed is in the episode titled "Barney's first car" They are
riding along and just as Barney's steering column starts to come out, Andy and
Opie are talking about the farm they just past, and Andy says to Opie "maybe
they would even let you milk a cow", then you see Barney and the steering
wheel, and over his shoulder you see Aunt Bee, her mouth isn't moving but you
can hear her say in the backround, she says "Oh Opie wouldn't that be fun" I
don't know if the vocal is out of sinc. with the picture or what but it's
kinda funny ,,, check it out.

I want to thank everyone for your help with Mayberry
Days information. Thank you to those who personally
sent me a message and thank you to those who replied
to the Digest. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Also, thank you to the person who brought up the idea
of favorite scenes. Everytime I read someone's
favorite scene, I change my mind and go with that
person's scene as my favorite. I guess I'm just a
TAGS lover through and through.

I was wathing Happy Days the other day the episode where Richie is having a
hard time asking a girl out ( could be one of many episodes) and Fonzie
shows him how. The Fonz is leaning on the jukebox and to the right where
Richie is leaning on a pinball machine I noticed the backboard artwork and
it was
a Nip It pinball machine. All I could make out was the words NIP IT and a
character of Barney running blowing a whistle it looked like. I have played
a lot of pinball in my day, however I don't think I had ever seen a Mayberry
pinball machine. It was probably something new for the 60's(?)
Does anyone know a site that has pinball artwork online?
Looking forward to your reply.

Shazam Lisa - you ought not miss Mayberry Days. Go to the beach in August.
If I can come to Wilkesboro from Dallas for Merlefest, then, by golly gee
whiz, you can go to Mt. Airy - land of the free and home of the Goobers.
It's way yonder too much fun.

Too many favorite scenes to list all but one of my very favorites that comes
to mind is when that albatross, Lydia, crashes the bridge party with Goob and
they all sit on the couch like the Culhanes and try to have a conversation
and eat pretzels. That one's a knee slappin', fall and roll in the floor,
tears in the eyes hilarious.

George Lindsey, Loved Around the World as "Goober". For years Lindsey's
classic portrayal of "Goober" has filled our hearts with love and
laughter. But while he may be best known as the simple gas station

beyond the city limits of Mayberry. In fact, Lindsey is an established
veteran character actor of tremendous range, having co-starred in
Broadway musicals and appearing on over 40 television shows.

And, in music news, maybe it was "The Return of the Blob" that featured
Christian music's Randy Stonehill and Larry Norman.... mem laps in my
