Regarding the recent posts about "Return to Mayberry": It is, indeed,
extremely difficult to find and it is expensive. Half.com currently has
one for $100. Hopefully, with all the new DVD releases of older stuff,
we'll see a less expensive offering sometime soon.

In response to Paul's message: What's round on both ends and hi in the
middle...Thanks Paul for jarring my memory. You're a peach. It must be my
memory as I am a Mayberry fan from way back. I've probably seen that episode
100 times. Must be my age! lol Thanks also to Harriet Browder who sent me a
personal email to remind me "There is an episode where Charlene mentions
putting a buckeye in your pocket for good luck or something like that. I
guess that doesn't actually qualify as a state reference but it does make a
body think!" Skippy "What's up Bernie you called us up and told us to meet

I guess my most favorite quote in all of Mayberry is

"Hellooo Dolll........." I even have this one as my IM message announcer.

I also like the following quotes as well:

"Tall, dark, and a doorprize"
"Just what can you do with a grown woman, Pa?"
"Goober was in the National Guard. They say "YO!" a lot in the National
Guard".
"I got a RUDE!!!"

I think I know a couple...

1. What night of the week to Barney and Thelma Lou usually eat cashew
fudge?
Wasn't it Tuesday night, when they were watching "that doctor show on TV?"
(Kind of funny how they left that so generic, at a time when "Dr Kildare" and
"Ben Casey" were both still on)

3. Who in Mayberry has the nickname "cream puff"?
Barney, much to his chagrin

No kidding...I am reading the Tom Perotta novel "Joe College" (set at Yale
and in New Jersey) and at one point one of the cafeteria workers is whistling
the Andy Griffith theme. The book's protagonist, Danny, asks Matt if he
learned "that fancy whistling" in Mayberry.

The Internet Movie Database mentions a number of TAGS references in various
movies, from "Satan's Cheerleaders" (1977) to "Almost Famous" (2000). Anyone
remember the several very funny references in the Julia Roberts/Richard Gere
movie "Runaway Bride"? My favorite is when Gere blows up at the old woman in
the dress shop and calls her "Aunt Bee."

Of course nobody talks about Cousin Todd very much. He's

Singapore, London, Paris, etc, but doesn't want to come to
America.

Andy thinks it has something to do with a girl in Cleveland,

Quentin Singleton wrote in the digest the other day the line I have pasted
above, and I didn't see any response to it in any of the digests after that,
but you never heard of the Visitors Center in Mt. Airy, NC? If you've
never
been there, you really should try to see it. There are LOTS of items there
about Andy Griffith, and the series. Thanks to Emmett Forrest, he has
collected items that I assume Andy has given him over his long career. I
love looking through the museum every time I go to Mayberry Days, and I
especially love talking to Emmett when I can. Emmett alone, is a celebrity
in my eyes. Thanks Emmett for all you have, and continue to do for all
TAGS
fans.

Well said, Ron! My wife and I have been to the Visitor's Center many times
and it is truly a wonderful tribute to TAGS and Andy Griffith. There are
also displays of Mt. Airy's other famous folks - Donna Fargo and Eng and
Chang Bunker, the Siamese Twins. Had the privilege of attending Grace
Moravian Church in Mt Airy and met Emmett who gave us a tour of his
collection after services one Sunday. He has gone to great lengths and
expense to acquire the unique memorabilia that is housed there as it is a
true labor of love on his part. Ann Vaughn also does a great job promoting
tourism in Mt Airy and along with Emmett deserves a very big thank you from
all of us Andy Griffith fans.

Is someone on this list signing up random people who don't want to be on the
list? We seem to have several irate people. I can't believe someone would be
irresponsible enough to harrass this list and these grumpy people by signing
folks up that don't like Mayberry, but I can't figure out what else would be
making these folks gripe.

No...nobody is signing up folks. Mostly, it's just folks that don't read the
top of the Digest and they would rather have somebody else (me) unsubscribe
them rather than type their e-mail address in to the block on the unsubscribe
page.

It's always been this way but with the old software I was able to catch these
type of request before you folks saw them. Now, I just have to remove them as
soon as I see their message.

Sorry to all of you for the space it takes up on the Digest but there aren't
too many and I just ask that we not respond to them. I'll take care of it and
y'all just let 'em float on past ya'.

I remember an episode where Barney is sleeping in the backroom of the
Courthouse when Andy comes in. Andy changes sheriff's hats with him as a
joke. When Barney wakes up he puts on Andy's hat, which is too big for
him, and tries to act like he wasn't sleeping. In another, quite similar
scene he's napping when Andy comes in and he walks out and is even about
to head out on some errand before he realizes that he hasn't put his
shoes on. Can some of you keen TAGS watchers (a) help me locate those
scenes [by episode] and/or (b) recall any other scenes like them?
Another thing I am interested in is the number of times we see Andy
sweeping or doing tasks that he could easily delegate to Barney or
someone else. I know I've seen him sweeping but I don't know on which
episode and I haven't seen it lately as I watch on TVLand. Can anyone
help me with compile those scenes?

I think this is one of the funniest things I have ever read. Thank you
very much, Chester Morton.
I don't know what you do for a living, but script-writing could be in your
future. I could picture every
scene in my mind, all the Darlings, Andy, Barney, and those Beverly
Hillbillies.

I watched "Mary Poppins" the other night and who did I see as the cook,
none other than Reta Shaw who played Big Maude and Eleanora Poultice on
TAGS.

One of my favorite scenes is in "Opie the Birdman" when everyone hears a
cat meow.
Then they all starting running out to see if the baby birds are okay.

Also another favorite scene is in a color episode with Andy and Helen.
This is when Helen wants Andy to get Howard to ask Irene Fairchild out on a
date.
Andy doesn't want to do any match-making. So every time Andy asks Helen if
they are going out
she keeps saying no. Then Andy finally says he'll get Howard to ask Irene
out. Helen smiles and kisses
Andy on the cheek.
