someone has written:

On the New Mayor episode featuring Parley Baer as the new mayor, when he
visits the jail, Anj and Barn are keeping an eye on a baby in Cell #1
(The One
on the Left) and the Mayor don't like it or Anj releasing Jess before
his
sentence is complete.

Now I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall that Cell 1 is actually to
the right of Cell 2. Barney goes over this at great length with Gomer
on the day of the town picnic, and I believe also on at least one other
occasion. Otis generally occupies Cell 1 (Bill Bixby is evicted to
accomodate their most regular roomer -- "seems no more than right").
Have we ever discussed Cell 1 inmates versus Cell 2 prisoners? Might be
interesting. Females seem to be assigned Cell 2 (except the
self-inarculated Daphne -- "I'm locked up with the sheriff!" -- who
prefers Cell 1).

Maybe we better write this down?

Last night on TV Land I heard Barney's lamentations on Vicki Harms....the
sno-cone eatin' gal who's dad was in Civil Service. My heart kinda went
out to ol' Barn. I can just see him standin' there holdin' a cup of
ice...with all the syrup gone! I also wonder if he had a "thing" for the
"Apricot Queen" that Andy "squired around town." (furniture
factory...beaver dam...a snack at the diner.."And don't try to tell me you
didn't go to the diner...'cause Juanita told me all about that!")

I was browsing the magazine section at Walker's Drugs last night (OK really
Target) and a calendar caught my eye. No it wasn't the SI swimsuit
calendar. It was called "Swingin' Chicks of the 60s". Upon further
investigation I noticed TAGS own Sue Ann Langdon (Nurse Mary Simpson who had
Andy over and Barney showed up also) was featured. I noted that a website
was referenced so I checked it out. It's really tastefully done, as much as
I looked as.
Of course I had to see what other TAGS stars were there. Besides SAL, the
Manicurist, Barbara Eden is featured as well as color episode guest star
Terri Garr.

I was disappointed not to find, Eleanor Donahue, Betty Lynn, or Julie Adams
(nurse Peggy). The site does feature other 60s icons such as Mary Tyler
Moore and both Ginger and Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island. TO illustrate
how tame it is, cartoon characters are also featured, and that's where I
found one more TAGS connection. Judy Jetson's voice is Janet Waldo, who was
just on TVland last night as Amanda in A wife for Andy (have you girls ever
thought about forming a softball team?)

SO here it is folks, there are nice bio's, and I think you ladies may even
enjoy it also
http://www.swinginchicks.com/workinitfordaddy.htm I have no connection with
this publisher.

Basically I like it because it harkens to an era when there could be sex
symbols without them being trashy.

Can you suggest where I may find the answers to these questions?

1. What night of the week to Barney and Thelma Lou usually eat cashew
fudge?

2. Who eats ice cream sundaes with pickles on top?

3. Who in Mayberry has the nickname "cream puff"?

4. What were the only words spoken by Doug Darling?

5. According to Goober, where can you get the best mashed potatoes in
Mayberry?

Thanks,

I think Barneys first car was the best. Someone should start a musem
about the show.

Quentin Singleton wrote in the digest the other day the line I have pasted
above, and I didn't see any response to it in any of the digests after that,
but you never heard of the Visitors Center in Mt. Airy, NC? If you've never
been there, you really should try to see it. There are LOTS of items there
about Andy Griffith, and the series. Thanks to Emmett Forrest, he has
collected items that I assume Andy has given him over his long career. I
love looking through the museum every time I go to Mayberry Days, and I
especially love talking to Emmett when I can. Emmett alone, is a celebrity
in my eyes. Thanks Emmett for all you have, and continue to do for all TAGS
fans.

Well, I'll tell ya... First, ya take Highway 6 out to Ol' Man Kelsey's
crick. Then, you cross the Robert E. Lee Natural Bridge (before dark, of
course). From there you'll pass through Ol' Man Kelsey's Woods. Once ya
git through the trees, you'll come up real fast on Ol' Man Kelsey's Ocean.
Ya travel across the big pond, and you'll come up on us! We're a little
south of Eckmondwyck. Drop in if you're in the neighborhood. We'll even
make some homemade ice cream!

Actually, we don't get TAGS here. (Yes, we have TV and electricity!) I've
got a few TAGS episodes on tape to get met through, as well as Andy & Don's
A&E biography episodes. Life could be better, could be worse. All in all,
it's goooooood!

>>> I could not think of one reference to the Buckeye state. I know it was
posted the other day about in the episode when Otis gave Barney
directions...can you give me a little more detail about the rest of this
episode...so I know which one it is.

The episode is "Sheriff Barney." Otis is pretending to be asleep, and
Barney uses the "Barney Fife Subconscious Prober" interrogation technique on
him in an attempt to find Rafe Hollister's still. Otis, speaking in a
sleepy, monotone voice, rattles off a complicated series of directions
through several states, including Ohio. The final address he gives for the
still is 411 Elm Street in Mayberry (Barney's residence).

There are a couple of other Ohio references as well: In "High Noon in
Mayberry," reformed criminal Luke Comstock says he owns a chain of
television repair stores in Cleveland, and in "Class Reunion" Andy and
Barney recollect seeing a magazine ad which said "V. J. of Cincinnati
reports earnings up to $600 a month."

>>>"Return to Mayberry" is not available anywhere on VHS unless that has
changed recently. However, it is shown on TV every once in a while. The
last time I know of was in December on WGN.

WGN traditionally airs it on New Year's Eve. I know that's a ways off, but

I noticed someone saying that since Andy referred to Aunt Bee's brother as
something about a brother of hers that drank, that some people thought maybe
Aunt Bee is an aunt by marriage. That had never occured to me, but it is an
interesting thought. I had always thought that maybe Aunt Bee's brother was a
lot older and maybe had passed away or something and Andy was too young to
remember or know him. I've heard people say things like "You weren't born
when your grandma's brother did this or that" and I thought maybe it was one
of those cases. Could be wrong though, have been before.

You get all dressed up, and what for? HEARTACHES! Nothing but HEARTACHES!

It's AMAZING how completly "Mayberry" has become accepted worldwide as the
symbol for a "nice, peaceful, and friendly place to live."

ON ONE HAND -When I was doing research for my book, I found a newspaper
article in a German newspaper that referred to a small German town as
"hoping to be the 'MAYBERRY' of Germany."

THEN JUST TODAY, on the CBS soap opera"Guiding Light" the teenager "Marina"
was admonished to "not get into trouble" - and her response was, "What
kind of trouble can I get in - this town is a virtual 'MAYBERRY.'"

MAYBERRY IS UNIVERSAL!!
