One of the greatest episodes ever....has got to be "THE PUNCH IN THE
NOSE." Opie comes in and says that Johnny Paul punched him.......Opie hit
him back 'cause he said that "Floyb (sic) is a crook!"
Did the editors just miss this one....or what? We all know that Floyb is
no crook.......a good businessman maybe....but no crook! Now Jessie
Pearson......that's a different story!

Sorry about the misleading info on the WGN TAGS
marathon this Sunday. It will only be shown in the
local Chicago area. The national feed of WGN will be
airing a marathon of The Cosby Show. I deserve a
smack on the hand from Miss Crump's ruler!

1. What night of the week to Barney and Thelma Lou usually eat cashew
fudge?
2. Who eats ice cream sundaes with pickles on top?
3. Who in Mayberry has the nickname "cream puff"?
4. What were the only words spoken by Doug Darling?
5. According to Goober, where can you get the best mashed potatoes in
Mayberry?

Ernest T's middle name is never given. The writers say it was taken from a
character named Frank T. Whipp? I think.. I read this on the TAGS website a
while ago and I don't remember the details. I'm sorry I don't have the link
but there is a section on the website where the writers answer some questions
and they talk about this. I know you can start at http://www.Mayberry.com and
find it from there.

Taken directly from the "Ask the Writter" section of the TAGSRWC web site. (You
folks might want to drop by and visit the site to see what type information is
there. http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/)
Q. Where did the "T" in "Ernest T." come from?
A. Everetts first big-time assignment was writing in New York, with Jim
Fritzell,
all the scripts for MR. PEEPERS" for the three years it was on the air. Wally
Cox
was the star; the talented cast included Marion Lorne, Pat Benoit, Tony
Randall,
Ruth McDevitt, Georgian Johnson, Reta Shaw and Jack Warden Jack played the
part of rough and tumble school coach. Everett and Jim were anxious to get a
name just right for the aggressive Warden. They finally decided to call him
"FRANK T. WHIP."
Ev and Jim were tickled by the name, and for whatever reason, were specially
happy with the "T"
middle initial. Go figure. Many years later when they created Howie Morris
inimitable role, they made
certain its name also had a middle initial "T". It differed in that it
attached itself to the first name, which
was never used without the T..It was always like one name, "Ernest T." -
Harvey Bullock
Thanks to Harvey for this, and the other, wonderful information found at "Ask
the Writer."

Subject: Weaver's Newletter hits the street
Hey folks,
Since Weaver's has it's very own newsletter, I don't post the information about
new products that Weaver's Dept. Store has on it's web site here on the Digest
anymore. I figure it's repetitive BUT if you don't get the Weaver's
newsletter...you're missing out. It has more information than just product
news. Anyway, you can go to the link below to check out the latest issue if
you're interested. I hope I don't sound like a pushy salesman.....

Remember, Weaver's is run completely by The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers
Club in Nashville so buying from them helps to support TAGSRWC as a whole.

TAGS fans,
My theory (which I've expressed before) is that Ernest T.'s middle
name is "Tiberias" and that, at some point, he married and had a child and
the middle name kept getting passed down until some distant off-sprung of
his married a fellow in Iowa named Kirk and they named their child "James
T. Kirk". Think about it: that same animal magnetism, that same athletic
skill, that great love of book-learning. And let's not forget how sharp
they both look in a uniform.

Hey Everybody,
I thought I would stop in Mayberry one more time before I takeoff for
Israel Monday February 4th. It will be my first trip there, so I am
looking forward to it. I hope I don't have 700 emails when I get back.
They have a internet cafe in one of the cities we will be staying at, so
maybe I can check my emails there. I think a good middle name for Ernest
T. is TUMBLEWEED. You never know where he is going and where he will show
up. He is always runnning, jumping and flipping out all over the place
driven by wherever his windy notion takes him. People say he is a strange
character and some say he is a mean one, but I think HE IS A NUT!

In answer to the TAGS character in the background of "The Wall," it's Gomer
saying "Surprise, surprise, surprise!".
As a fan of both rock music and Mayberry, my favorite T-shirt is one that
Weaver's used to have with a picture of our favorite barber with a pink and
purple background with the words "Pink Floyd, Deep Purple" on it. I get
lots of comments on that one!
Let's let Andy make the scene.

I think the answer to #4 Doug Darling talking.
The Darling's were in the jail cell and he says "Great beans, Aunt Bee". Or
did he just say "great beans".
I know Aunt Bee had the beans cooked for supper that night. Andy ate
several bowl fulls.
Mr. Darling liked the beans too.
I think Ernest T. Bass's middle name should be "Thurston", as in Thurston
Howell, III from "Gilligan's Island". (I just love Jim Backus.) I know
Mr. Howell could do a great Back Bay Boston accent just
like Ernest T. could. Both of them could fool Mrs. Wiley.

Hello fellow digest members! I haven't posted in some time but am still
reading the digest religiously. I live in north Ala. and tune in to a local
radio station "star 99". While listening the other day they were advertising
the George Lindsey festival that is coming up and letting listeners know that
the date to get your film in was extended due to the low response. The DJ
went on to say that George Lindsey was not a friendly guy at all and would
actually get mad if asked to do the Judy, Judy, Judy impression. He went on
to say that Lindsey had made the statement that being Goober was the biggest
mistake he had ever made. This may not be true, but I just wondered if anyone
else had any thoughts on the matter. I can't imagine TAGS with good old
Goober. Hopefully, this may have been a misunderstanding on the DJ's part.
Have a great weekend everyone!

I seem to recall one other scene (but not the episode) when Andy caught
Barney napping. He lifted the bed and put the corners of Barney's blanket
under the feet, trapping Barney.
