I will go as far as to say that's the very mark of being an avid fan. And
that goes for any TV show or movie, not just TAGS. Ask any "Star Trek" fan,
even the most dyed in the wool, pointed-ear-wearing Trekkies, and they can
pinpoint the problems in every episode. Same with me LOL...
My favorite: the color episode where Goober has the contest at the service
station. Look closely at the opening scene and you can see the camera crew
reflected in a window.

It seems kind of odd to me, Everyone enjoying the play I mean. From what I
heard from a couple that went to see it, they were very disappointed. They
said the dinner was great, however the performance was quite questionable.
"Starting out it was cute and funny, but as they grew up there language
changed ALOT" <--- this is quoted from the two I talked to. They said that
they (the actors) swore and used the Lords name in vain! The couple and
another table of 10 got up an walked out. Its good that some people still
have strong morals and values and won't take it sitting down! I suppose that
the world is ugly and if you only want the good out of it you have to keep
your mind and heart filled with God and TAGS and Mayberry, because outside the
city limits, people and the world can't be awful disappointing.

I don't remember the play having anything that bad in it. It surely wasn't
something that my 5 year old would need to hear but the words I heard weren't
using the Lord's name in vain?
Anyway, it was a great show and I enjoy it a lot. It *was not* Mayberry but it
wasn't advertised as being Mayberry. It was a play and sometimes plays have
words in the scripts that we wouldn't say in our day to day lives.
I don't know if your friends told you but Betty Lynn talked about being worried
about some of the language and situations that her character said and got into.
She didn't want to offend anybody and she did her best to change some of the
words so she didn't have to say really offensive things.
All the folks that got up and left that I talked to later did so because it was
LATE and the show was only half over. They said they couldn't stay up that late
because they have swings but they don't use 'em at night. :-)
All in all, it was a wonderful chance to see two of our Mayberry friends do
something completely different and they did a WONDERFUL job.

Aunt Bee of Orlando, you are thinking of the nursery rhyme I used to
read to my children when they were small. Bobby Shaftoe's gone to sea,
silver buckles on his knee, etc. I think the writers of TAGS just made
up that name of Johnny Shaftoe. I have not been able to find it in a
book of Kipling's poetry. If anyone has more information I would like
to hear it. Mary Grace of Georgia

Bobby Shaftoe's gone to sea,
With silver buckles on his knee:
He'll come back and marry me,
Pretty Bobby Shaftoe!
Bobby Shaftoe's fat and fair,
Combing down his yellow hair;
He's my love for evermore,
Pretty Bobby Shaftoe
Hope this puts little Johnny to rest for awhile. "Dr. Pendyke"

Good to see so many messages about what a great time people had in Mount
Airy when they went to see the "Love Letters" presentation by Howard Morris
and Betty Lynn. They were both most gracious to me when I was in Mount
Airy last year signing copies of my new book while they were enhancing
"Mayberry Days."
For those of you who appreciate the atmosphere of Mount Airy, I suggest
that you might enjoy the book I wrote about growing up there during the
same era as Andy. My grandfather was the real Justice of the Peace when
Andy was growing up, and Andy and I went to the same schools, and had some
of the same mentors. When I hear the songs Andy sang on the show, I
remember many of them as coming from "The Golden Book
of Songs" that we used when we were attending "Rockford Street Grammar
School." The auditorium of the school has been restored and now serves as
"The Andy Griffith Playhouse."
Mount Airy was, and is, a special, wonderful town! If you want to find
out more about what was going on in the town as Andy was growing up and how
it influenced the crafting of "Mayberry" and the situations and people on
"The Andy Griffith Show," check out my book, "Memories of Mayberry: A
Nostalgic Look At Andy Griffith's Hometown." You can order it from
"Weavers," and have a great time connecting with the people and events that
Andy experienced as he was growing up there.

Hey all,
This is something that has always fascinated me and I wanted to see if any
of you other shared in this memory. Now I love TV Land just as much as the
next guy, but there has always been a special place in my heart for the poor
image quality of the local broadcasts I grew up watching. Our local UHF
stations in Nashville always showed late night episodes (usually followed by
MASH) and I can remember my mom making tape after tape of those episodes.
My point is that while I love the crystal clear picture of the TV LAND
episodes sometimes I long for those snowy images. Anyway, just a thought
from the magazine section of the Sunday paper.
Oh, also, I brought this subject up over a year ago but got little response
so here it goes again. Have we as organized fans thought about writing
TVLAND to ask for true uncut episodes? My opinion is I would rather see one
episode stretched over 45 minutes in its full version, rather than two
episodes cut up to fit the commercial demands of a one hour spot. Anyway,
any interest?
Steve Mitchell

Well Folks,
I just got home from seeing David and Patti (or is it Patty Sorry guys if
it's wrong)
The Brownings (hows that) version of "Love Letters".
First let me tell you that as a man I wasn't real interested in the subject
due to the name of the play. But as a fan of the Brownings I went anyway,
and was very, very, pleased with the show.
They kept my interest throughout the night, The show is two 45 minute acts
with a 15 minute
intermission. It is very funny and interesting, and I would definately see
it again. so
with that being said I believe that anyone in the Bristol, VA vacinity on I
think this Thursday
Feb. 14, 2002 (V-Day) for you romantics they will be performing it there.
I'm sure someone will post the location and times.
Guys let me reiterate, It' more Humor than MUSH, and for those who do not
like the foul language of the original "Love Letters" they have cleaned it
up enough for your preacher to
enjoy. and it's every bit as funny or more.
Phil "Lots of luck to you and yours" Fox
