No, that distinction belongs to the long-forgotten 1940s sitcom couple "Mary
Kay and Johnny." A few others pre-dated "The Munsters" as well, including
"The Goldbergs" and "Ozzie and Harriet."
Of course this never came up on TAGS since the married couples on that show
were surprisingly scarce and we saw them at home very rarely (Otis comes to
mind).

Before it aired, the CBS censors gave them some grief about it, and dictated
even how the shot would be framed. When it aired, as far as I know, it
caused nary a word of protest. Perhaps this was because "Beaver" was so
low-rated during its first season (in fact it switched networks to ABC later
that season).
Back on topic...anyone know of any behind-the-scenes moments from TAGS where
the CBS censors ever got upset? Remember, it didn't have to be something
dirty to get the censors all uptight (with the starched armpits or the hairs
falling in the back of the neck), it can be something as simple as a product
brand name...

Hey everybody. Is it my imagination or did I see a sink in cell number 2 at
one time? I have often wondered what the prisoners did about using the
bathroom. I know Otis can get the key and get out when he wants to, maybe
to go to the dime store or diner or filling station to use it(I wonder if
they had public restrooms back then), but what about the harden criminals
where they keep the key locked drawer? What if a prisoner was sick on his
stomach? It sure is amazing the things you think of about TAGS. I
certanilty do not pick apart any other TV show like this one(I wonder what
causes that?). Andy is my alltime favorite show and I hardly watch anything
else on TV. As I told my son the other day, you can learn lifes lessons and
have a good laugh in the process by watching TAGS. Why watch anything eles?
Well enough rambling on, got to get to work. Horatio(Kevin)

Hey everyone!
On the last post someone was talking about the economy of yesteryear and I
just wanted to bring up something that has always seemed strange. Remember
in "The Shoplifter" episode, when Andy and Barney are laughing about the can
opener with the umbrella on it? Ben indicated that it cost $1.25! Seems a
little much for the time. Maybee Barney was right to want to look in Ben's
trunk.
Any other funny prices that folks remember?

Hope this evokes a chuckle! Out shopping this morning, I was trying on
a hat and handed my bag to hubby. He promptly said "then you get to
hold their bags while they try on hats - that's what you can do with a
grown woman!" I could hardly continue for laughing at my sweetie's
apropos comment!!

Hey Everybody,
I just wanted to let everybody know I am home from Israel. I had a great
time and it was safe. I encourage all to go to Israel if given the
opportunity. How is the middle name for Ernest T. coming along? Anyway, I
thought I would stop by Mayberry to tell everybody hey.

Hey Paul, we gonna finish up the State Game? I think we're ready for the
Vs and Ws. I've got notes on the others that are still missing. We can't
forget about Natural Bridge Virginia, and a Tiger Eye Ring right outa
Spokane Washington.
Don't mean to "flush" another recent subject, but you know what I've never
seen in Mayberry? Hunting. In an early episode when the inspector is
coming, Andy mentions that the inspector is a buddy of his, and they go
hunting and fishing...but do we ever see him hunt? He does shoot skeet
obviously. I'll bet ole Blue would be a good huntin' dog. C'mon Blue, Lets
Go blue (especially if the wild game was carryin' lollipops in their
pockets). We never see him go frog giggin' either.
About the bathroom though, when Barney is hurryin around town at times,
bumpin into people, he reminds me of myself when I'm in a shopping mall and
I real have to "go". I think bathrooms were mentioned but not seen in the
episode that Barney was a realtor.
Hey webmasters (those of you that have Andy Griffith pages) I have a great
picture for you if you'd like a copy. My Father-in-law was at Disney MGM
this week, and took a picture of the bronze Andy Griffith bust there. He
took it with a digital camera, so I have a jpeg file. Its real sharp and
includes the name plate. Just write me offline for a copy.

Anita Carpenter

The door to the far left of the cells is there during the entire first
season (in later years, there is a gas heater in that corner) but we never
see anybody go through this door. It doesn't make much sense for there to
be a door there, because the barber shop is directly on the other side of
that wall. Maybe there was a small closet which had to be removed when the
gas heater was installed. While we're on the subject of that interesting
corner, during the first season, there was no inside window to the right of
the front double doors. There are two large windows on the outside, but
only one of the inside! Makes ya think....
We never see it, but there must be a bathroom located off the back room. In
one episode, Andy tells Otis to "go back there and get shaved and cleaned
up." The stairs to the second floor also must be back there, but we never
see them either (the mayor's office is on the second floor, directly above
Andy's).
Speaking of steps, the steps to the courthouse basement are located on the
exterior of the rear of the building; we do see these steps a couple of
times. We never see the actual basement, but Barney does send Newton Monroe
down there to clean the furnace.

Wrong -- listen closely at the end of the "cat barber" scene and you'll hear
Floyd addressed as "Mr. Feldman." True, "Colby's" is painted on the barber
shop window, but nobody ever calls Floyd "Floyd Colby" in any episode.
Perhaps Colby was the name of the previous owner, and Floyd retained the
name for a while.

Fred and Wilma Flintstone may have been the first. For the benefit of our
younger members, The Flintstones was originally a prime time series and not
a Saturday morning cartoon. The Flintstones premiered September 30, 1960,
exactly three days before TAGS.
I read somewhere that Ozzie and Harriet weren't allowed to be seen in bed
together, even though there were married in real life (as were Lucy and
Desi). Seems kind of silly, doesn't it.

I remember hearing a mention about this when they had a Leave It to Beaver
marathon one weekend. And I was surprised to see an episode about a friend of
Beaver's whose parents were divorced. I hadn't realized they dealt with the
subject of divorce on Beaver. Divorce was probably one of those subjects that
you didn't talk about much at that time, and when you did talk about it, it was
in a whisper. So, to make this post a little more TAGS oriented, who was
divorced on TAGS? (This is an EASY one, folks!) Maybe there was more than one
couple, but I can only think of one right now. And to make this post a little
happier, since divorce is so sad, just remember that the divorce didn't last
very
long! :) Lisa

What if Howard Morris (as Ernest T.) was in a play called Love Letters? It
would
never work!!! Just think about it - how would he deliver the letters? Via
ROCK!! And then the intended receiver of the love letter would just have to go
to a taxidermist to have her head sewed up and she'd fall in love with the
taxidermist and marry up with him and it would just be all too sad! :) I hope
I
don't get a rude for this post - reading that post made me think of Mr. Morris
being like his TAGS character in Love Letters and I had to laugh! I'm not
trying
to get facetious because I know how Barney hates that, but I am being silly
today. Have a wonderful Mayberry day! :) Lisa
