I love the scene at the end of "A Date for Gomer" where he and Mary
Grace are dancing. At all social functions I strive to dance like that,
though I'm a poor imitation of ol' Gome. This is a constant source of
embarassment to my family, but they manage to put up with it.

I agree with aunt bee from modesto/ripon......barney's "you're starting to
get to me" facial expression is priceless...haha...also, i think it was a
time when he's telling andy that elinora compared him to leonard blush (or
something like that)....the look of humility...haha...

Many of you already know about netflix.com, but perhaps some of you don't.
It's a web site that lets you rent DVDs by mail for a flat monthly fee.
They have just about every DVD ever made, including several TAGS titles.
Check out their web site at www.netflix.com. They offer a ten-day free
trial.

How it works is, you search through their catalog and make a list of the
DVDs you want, and they send you the first three titles on your list (you
can get up to eight at a time, if you pay extra for the "ultimate" package).
You keep each one for as long as you want, then when you're through you just
send it back and they'll send you the next one on your list. They pay all
the shipping costs.

A quick search through their catalog turned up 10 titles for Andy Griffith
(all TAGS), 14 titles for Don Knotts, and 28 for Ron Howard.

To those of you who don't have a DVD player or DVD-ROM drive, I'll say this:
It's about time you started modernizin' that place electronally. This is
the age of science know-how! Electronal marvels!

This is probably pretty common knowledge, but Don
Knotts actually wrote the sketch in which Barney tried
(with no luck) to recite/remember the pre-amble to the
Constitution. The same premise was used in another
episode where Barney tried to recite the oath he took
when sworn in as a policeman.
As a side note, the oath required to become a Mayberry
deputy seems to change pretty frequently. Notice the
difference in the oath Barney gives to Gomer and Otis
in "High Noon in Mayberry" and the one Andy gives to
Otis in "Otis the Deputy."

Subject: Mt. Airy newspaper (a TAGS scene)
Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2002 17:06:54 +0000

Last night I was watching TAGS and the first episode (on
TVLand) was called "Aunt Bea's Invisible Beau". It's the
one where she pretends to be dating the butter & egg
man. Well, early in the show when Andy is sitting on the
sofa and Aunt Bea has walked into the kitchen, the
kitchen door is still open. Andy is asking her if she'd
like to go to Helen's with him and the Sunday school
class. He is reading the newspaper. It is folded in half
so all you can see is the right half, but at the very
top, it says "Airy News" so I'm sure the left side
had "Mt.". Has anyone ever noticed that? I thought it
was kinda neat. You can see it just before she says "I
have a date".

In the episode in which Barney revives the fight between Floyd and Mr.
Foley, reference is made by either Floyd or Foley that Andy's advice on
forgiving and forgetting is "exactly what Sheriff Poindexter told us 19
years ago" (1946). The epiosde is shot in 1965 (or so the trailer tells
us). I was wondering if this degree of historical specificity is repeated
anywhere else. There seems to be some confusion about how old Andy and
Barney are, when they graduated from high school, etc. Any thoughts out
there? Lots of luck to you and yours.

Hi all,
I noticed something today. I was watching "A Feud is a Feud" and I notice in
the very beginning when Andy puts on his cap and gown, if you look behind Opie
you see double doors as if it were an entrance to a patio? Its right behind
Ernest T.'s chair. I don't believe that this is there for the later episodes
is it.
Any thoughts?

Here's some more gossip overheard on the porch of "Mrs. Mendelbright's
Boarding House." "Kids today are so foolish. Those ducktail haircuts make it
impossible to stay well-groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing
their hair longer than the girls." "I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies
any more. Once they let Clark Gable swear in "Gone With The Wind", it seems
every movie has been going downhill ever since." "I read in the paper where
some scientist think it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the
decade. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down
in Texas." Lots of luck to you and yours.
