How many times do we get to see the same bit run in more than 1 episode?
Barney's reciting the preamble was revamped and used more than once. And of
course, sitting on the porch deciding what to do. But I think they used the
"Andy attacking Barney with a ruler" bit almost unchanged. I can't recall
the episodes but in one Andy ends up pinning Barney to the desk and in
another Andy forces Barn to the floor.

years ago" (1946). The episode is shot in 1965 (or so the trailer tells
us). I was wondering if this degree of historical specificity is repeated
anywhere else. There seems to be some confusion about how old Andy and
Barney are, when they graduated from high school, etc. Any thoughts out
there? Lots of luck to you and yours."
I believe in "Mayberry Goes Bankrupt" the war bond was issued in 1861 and
Aunt Bee remarks, " A hundred years ago!" which would agree with the 1961
filming date.

While watching this episode, during the part where
Clara is telling Bee about her "beau" Clark, Bee says
something like "does he still split his shoes?".
Clara says that she never noticed. Is this a
reference to him being poor or cheap? Was this
something they did during the depression, in order to
not have to buy new shoes? This is the first time I
ever noticed Bee saying that. Curious...Curious....

Hi Everybody-
I haven't written in a long time but just wanted to share one
of my favorite Barney facial expressions. I enjoy all the ones
that everyone else has mentioned but there is one that comes
to mind that is rather unique. In the Citizen's Arrest episode
where Barney is in the cell smoking the cigarette he says "So,
who looks foolish now sheriff?" Andy won't play along with it
anymore and a few moments later Barney realizes that he's made
a mistake - his face drops but he's still too proud or stubborn
to admit that he's wrong. It's so Barney in a way but it's also
so different from any other I can recall. The scene evokes two
different emotions because you can't keep from being frustrated
with him but also feeling sorry for him at the same time.
I hope I'm not over-analyzing this scene 'cause I sure wouldn't
want to get my syndromes (or episodes) mixed up.

Just saw our friend Howard in a episode of Hawaii 5-0. He was playing
a tourist that gets his luggage mixed up with a bad guy's.
Howard winds up with a suitcase full of cash and wants to keep it.
Kinda out of character for the honest Howard we are used to seeing.
But he still had a lot of the mannerisms we associate with Howard.
Howard almost gets killed by the bad guy in the episode but McGarret saves
him.

We know how Andy Griffith would say 'hey' to the folks back in Mount Airy with
props, names, and places, and I happened upon a couple names from the show
that I bet Andy suggested they use.
Last year during Mayberry Days, George Spence was telling of his days with the
production of "The Lost Colony" and mentioned the name of Joe Layton. Mr.
Layton was a choreographer and director of the play in the 60's and though
Andy did not perform there during the 60's, I'm sure he knew Mr. Layton and
used his name for the Intercontinental News character in "Crime-free
Mayberry."
I recently had the privilege of helping with a new display for the Andy
Griffith museum at the Mount Airy Visitors Center - the 1951 Goldsboro (NC)
High School yearbook. It was a year when Andy taught there and his photo is on
a page with other teachers. I noticed the name Clifton Britton who taught
radio broadcasting, and recognized it as another character's name - one of the
Esquire Club members, Cliff Britton in "The Clubmen."
At the end of movie credits is the fine print about any use of the characters
or names is purely coincidental, but I think it was nice Andy could suggest
friends' names in the show (with the exception of Phil Sunkel, but that's
another story).
