I was born in Birmingham Alabama and grew up while living in both Alabama and
Tennessee. I have been living in Canada since the late 1960's. All of my
kinfolks still live in the southern USA. I remember watching The Andy
Griffith Show occasionally when it was first on TV, but I was much more
interested in parties and dances and the high-school football hero at the
time. At the end of last summer, we got access here in Canada to the TV Land
cable channel and I re-discovered Andy and Barney and Mayberry. What a treat
it has been to watch these re-runs and laugh at the simple foolishness of the
southern mountain people similar to those I grew up knowing -- especially
since 9/11. I am looking forward to being on this mailing list. Sallie T.

My husband and I love the Andy Griffith Show! Our favorites are the black

being moved to 6th grade is classic.

I was raised in Clarksburg, W.Va. during the 50's, then
moved to CA in '55. When TAGS began in 1960 ... there was
my hometown with similar people, etc. Watching TAGS is like
watching my childhood! It's brought me through thick and thin,
and I adore every show, every line and every nuance.
Having been in "show biz" myself, now, for some years - I
became able to appreciate TAGS for it's incredible actors and
comedians. Doing voice overs with Hal Smith, working on some
of Ron's films ..... well .... it's been a huge slice of heaven.
I'm
so pround to say that TAGS is an integral part of my 'roots' and
always will be. The next dream of mine is to collect every
episode on VHS or DVD. God Bless you all who love TAGS as
            much as me.

I did the same thing. I finally emailed them and they gave me that same
number. I tried for weeks and didn't get anyone. I emailed them back and
told them that. I also email them my questions that I had and they emailed
me back. The first time it took them about 2 days before they got back to
me and the second time it took them about a week. So, I'd suggest you email
them and forget about that number. I don't think anyone EVER answers at that
number. ( I actually tried 2 different phone numbers and got that silly
recording at both numbers)
I hope this helps.

Thanks to Allen for providing the list of the episodes on the Columbia house
videos.
I know how you feel about not getting to see TAGS Mary. The station I used to
watch it on was
bought by someone else and turned into a Hispanic station. Needless to say no
more tags.
But up till then I had been in TAGS Heaven. They had been showing TAGS 4 times
a day Mon-Fri (2 at noon and 2 at night)
and on weekends they would have 8 episodes back to back on Saturday and 6
episodes back to back on Sunday.
They showed the episodes in order and I was able to watch thru the entire
series almost twice before they went off the air.
I still have never got to see the Gomer houseguest episode tho. It always
seemed to be on during the day when I was at
work and I didnt have a VCR at the time. The only cable company in my area
doesn't carry TV land so I havent bothered with
getting Cable either and since I live in an Apt Satellite isn't an option
either. So I finally decided to get a VCR and join the Columbia
House deal so that I can have a few more episodes of TAGS other than the 16
episodes that I have on DVD.

Dapper Dan
Waiting for that first tape.

In the 1965-1966 TAGS season opener, 'Opie's Job', we see Opie run his bike
into a tree showing off for Sharon Porter. Incidentally, 'Opie's Job' was the
first TAGS episode that aired in color. 'Aunt Bee, the Swinger' was the first
episode produced in color.
About twenty and a half years later, in April 1986, a similar scene takes
place in 'Return to Mayberry' when Opie runs his car into his house when his
wife Eunice goes into labor. All it took in September of 1965 was an iron on
patch on his britches and a lecture from a disturbed Andy on the value of
hard earned money.
In 'Return to Mayberry' Opie probably had to file a collison claim on his
auto insurance policy.

"Do they work back there?"

I still have that rocking chair. For them that don't know, it's from the
35th anniversary reunion, held in Winston-Salem in 1995. It's autographed
on the back by all of the stars who attended (except Jean Carson). The
stars used the chairs on stage during the event, and at the end of the
evening the chairs were auctioned off via sealed bids. There were 20 chairs
each night, and it was a 2-day event, so there are (lemme see ...
tappitytappitytappitytappity...) forty of these chairs in existence. I
don't know which of the stars sat in my chair; the stage crew delivered it
to my hotel room, and I didn't get to pick which chair I got.

The chair is for sale if anyone is interested. It's been sitting unused in
my spare room all these years. I know of a couple of these chairs that have
sold for over $1,000. Andybody want to make me an offer? I can put
pictures of it up on the web.

programming of big cable company's?

That's an easy one! Drop the cable, and get a satellite dish. Two good
ones are Dish Network and DirecTV. The picture quality is a lot better, you
get more channels, and it's probably cheaper than what you're paying for
cable.

No such set has ever been produced. Over the years, several different
companies have produced TAGS tapes, but nobody has ever done the entire
series. Hopefully, CH will eventually issue all 249, if demand remains
high.
