Howdy, fellow Mayberrians!

I was reading the digest with all of the great quotes from the show, and a
particular scene came to mind. It9s the episode in which Luke Comstock is
coming to gun Andy down. You know, the one with the letter - the one that
spells R-E-V-E-N-G. It9s the scene in which they9ve just gotten the
emergency call about Mrs. Peterson9s cat being stuck on the roof.

Andy: Mrs. Peterson9s 3Fluffy2 is on the roof again.
Barney: This is a time for pussycats - with a killer on the loose?
Andy: Well, Fluffy9s got kittens, and you know how you feel seein9 your
mother on the roof.
Barney: Andy, take this and put it under your shirt (hands gun to Andy)
Andy: I won9t need it, Barn. Fluffy and I9ve been friends for years.
Barney: OK, but if you get all shot up, I don9t wanna hear about it!

Between Barney9s sincere, if not over-anxious, concern and Andy9s deadpan
responses, that9s a great scene!

Just another trip down Mayberry Memory Lane...

Cheers from Lagos!

You saw that right. Howard did, indeed, have a Chevy in that episode, and it
was a '64 Impala. Copper, I believe it was.

I recall when we watched that episode recently that my hubby (a car nut)
said, "I believe Howard's gotta' '64 Chevy Impala."

>>>"DVD" was filmed before a live audience on a converted
soundstage/auditorium setup. And both series were produced by Sheldon
Leonard and Danny Thomas. The oval window is probably one of many instances
were certain props or set pieces went before both series' cameras.
>>>

The oval-shaped window does turn up on both series; sometimes it's covered
with a snug-fitting sheer curtain. On TAGS, it can be seen in Helen's class
room, Hilda Mae's house, Mrs. Wiley's house, the Williams' house (episode in
which Barney tries to sell real estate), and several other folks' homes as
well.

However, I don't believe the Dick Van Dyke Show was ever filmed before a
live audience. My understanding is that before a finished episode was
broadcast, they would show it to a live audience, tape their reaction, and
then add that laughter to the episode. Therefore, the laughter is from a
real audience and it's different every time, but the audience was not
actually present during the filming. TAGS, of course, always used canned
laughter.

It really doessn't matter how Ron decides to tell or
portray the story of the Alamo, someone or some group
will find fault with it.The sharks are already snipping
away at "A Beautiful Mind". The local paper and reports
from the Internet are that he is going to portray both
views- (History's account and the Spanish viewpoint) I
would love to see Oliver Stone get involved with this
project because he is very thorough with his research.
The Alamo is a subject in Texas that still has deep
rooted controversy and being from Texas myself would
just love to see it done in a way that would give
dignity to both sides. I have enormous respect for Ron
Howard but wouldnt give you a plug nickle for Hollywood.

Just a minute watcher on TAGS, not very good at it yet, but my husband noted
on the TAGS show the other night that when Otis and Howard went to rescue Andy
, they were driving a 1964 chevy. Thought only drove Ford vehicles.
Another thing, the windows in the back were all down all the way, and he
doesn't remember the windows going down all the way, only part-way on the '64
models.
Is this right, and if so, did anyone else notice?

I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD WRITE AND SEE IF ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE IN ANDY LAND HAD
NOTICED THIS.
HOW COME WHEN THEY SHUT THE JAILCELL DOOR, THEY HAVE TO TURN THE KEY TO LOCK
IT, BUT YET AT OTHER TIMES, WHEN BARNEY GETS LOCKED IN, AS HE DOES FREQUENTLY,
HE SHUTS THE DOOR AND IT IS LOCKED. THAT IS HOW HE GETS LOCKED IN ALL
THE TIME. ANY THOUGHTS? THIS HAS BEEN BUGGING MY HUSBAND FOR A LONG TIME.

Several times in the past folks have written in about Rafe's supposed use of
profanity in the episode regarding Rafe's appearance in the "Musi-cal". I
watched that episode recently and listened to Rafe's comment over and over
and I respectfully disagree with anyone who thinks he said "h**l". It is my
opinion that Rafe simply said "Well...that's me!" I think the confusion
lies in the fact that Rafe's accent made the word "well" into a two syllable
word ("way-eel"...apologies for the poor phonetic spelling...hopefully you
know what I mean).

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Who would y'all say is the "meanest" person ever to visit Mayberry? My vote
would go to Aunt Bee's beau Roger Hanover. Remember the scene when he was
talking to Andy and "threatening" to propose to Aunt Bee? This was after Andy
had had words with him about the roses, I think, and Roger told Andy he might
just have his hands in Andy's roses yet. The actor played it well. He really
did seem to be mean and vicious to Andy. But of couse Andy called his bluff
and he left town.....real sudden like.....Any other thoughts about any other
"mean" characters?

Go ahead, Opie, give her some gooood"

>I think that Rafe Hollister was the only person to "talk ugly" on TAGS.
It was the time that he was chosen for the big "Musicaal!" Andy was
trying to give Rafe a suit.....and he was telling Rafe that the County
forgot to give a prisoner a suit of clothes when he was released.....Andy
told him the date.....and that the prisoner was taken in for
moonshining...then Rafe said......"Why _ _ _ _ that was me!"<

I watched this episode over and over, I love it, I thought I caught him
saying that too, but as I turned up the volume and listened very, very
closely, I heard him say "Well, that was me". I played it a couple times
and thought boy that sounds like something else, but I do believe he is saying
"well" not _ _ _ _.

God Bless

hi all,
I thought Mayberry was a place to get away from the world, not a place where
people try to drag worldy jargon and slang into. I don't think there was a
bad word on the Andy Griffith Show, although I myself have thought I heard
somethings, I think like the creators have said, "It's a place where people
can go to get away from the world. a wholesome place". Why don't people want
to leave it there instead of trying to find something corrupt in it.

I swear by the name of Groovely Barch and Bujum Snarch that Howard's car was
a Chevy Impala.
I just saw it again on my local station today. I think its one of Hal

Sarah's last name???

I think it's either Getme or Bell. "Sarah, Getme...Goober" "Sarah Getme

think she was there when her ole Hubby Alex Graham Bell made that first call

Subject: Welcome Sweet Springtime in the Los Olivos Wintertime
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Good old 14-A sounds good and rings true this time of year. When the song
"Welcome Sweet Springtime" was introduced in 'Barney and the Choir', it was
winter. This episode originally aired on February 19, 1962. Barney mentions
good old 14-A as he hears it in the distance when he converses with Andy on
Opie's front porch in 'Return to Mayberry.' This scene was shot around
February 1986 in Los Olivos, California. I doubt a Los Olivos winter would be
all that harsh. It probably felt like early spring in February as they were
filming 'Return to Mayberry.' It was finally spring when the television movie
aired on that Sunday night , April 13, 1986. Watching that movie really
spring cleaned our hearts.

That'll be all, Hazel.
