I actually saw the Bread and Butter line used in a Danny Kaye movie. He and
another character walked on either side of a tree. When Danny realized what
had happened, he said Bread and Butter and went back to the tree and around
the other side so both characters passed the tree on the same side.

This past weekend in our local newspaper they had a trivia test from TAGS, and
one question was:

What two actors went on to have their own shows after leaving TAGS? The
answers were Jim Nabors for The Jim Nabors Show, and Don Knotts for The Don
Knotts Show.

Now I have heard about the Jim Nabors Show, but I have never heard of the Don
Knotts Show. Can someone give me some info on this show.

Thanks,

All,

What Andy and Opie say are

    "Abyssinia."

    "See you Samoa."

"The boys is all keyed up."

One of the best things about our Mayberry is 'no sales
tax'. When Opie goes to the bakery to buy a cake for
$1, it costs $1. ("Don't you have a cake with a dent
in it?")

In 'Colonel Harvey's Elixir', Aunt Bee gets gassed.
Did she get a buzz on in any other episodes? "Aunt Bee
doesn't even allow rum-cake in the house!"

Hey Everybody,

I remember another dancing episode. It is the one where Warren keeps
sleepwalking and chasing Helen in the jail cell. At the end of this
episode when Helen and Andy are talking in the kitchen, we hear Aunt Bee
yelling for Andy. When Andy walks out into the living room, he sees
Warren dancing with Aunt Bee in his sleep.

huh yeh huh yeh huh!

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Doug Dillard's new website is a pleasant little bluegrass surprise. I will be
purchasing 1969's 'The Banjo Album' soon! His contribution to The Monkees'
'What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round' make it a fantastic number. This song
appeared in that series' opening episode, 'A Nice Place to Visit' , of the
1967/1968 television season. Mayberry still truly is the nice place to visit.
Speaking of visits, Malcolm Merriweather visited these four lads at the end
of this same season at about the same time TAGS aired its' last show.

On your way!
Thank you.

Does anyone out there know what Nesselroad Pie is? It was mentioned in the
show where Aunt Bee, Andy, and Opie were entertaining the author/professor
from South America. Actually, I believe the pie was mentioned three different
times in that episode. Haven't heard of Nesselroad Pie here in Indiana, and
I've done a lot of cookin in my 53 years! - Judy Coe

Carolina Calling Premieres Saturday, April 6, at 8 PM, on UNC-TV
New Variety Show Spotlights Homegrown, Hometown Talent
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Goodness grows in
North Carolina and it shows in our state9s performing arts. Discover a
wealth of talent from the mountains to the coast and all throughout the
piedmont on Carolina Calling, an all-new 13-week variety show series
starring country music legend and Broadcasting Hall of Famer Arthur Smith.
Premiering on UNC- TV Saturday, April 6, at 8 PM, and continuing the
following 12 weeks at that time, each episode features Smith, who pioneered
the original Carolina Calling television variety show, along with the
Carolina Calling Orchestra, classic clips from Smith9s archives and regional
talent show winners for an hour of down-home, fun-loving, family friendly
entertainment. The series will also include occasional guest appearances
from nationally known performers with ties to the Carolinas. At the end of
13 episodes, an overall winner will be chosen and receive a recording
contract.
Major funding for Carolina Calling comes from North Carolina9s
Touchstone Energy cooperatives.
3North Carolina9s Touchstone Energy cooperatives have been an integral
part of North Carolina9s history for more than 60 years,3 said Nelle
Hotchkiss, senior vice president of the North Carolina Association of
Electric Cooperatives. 3We9re proud to team with UNC-TV and Smith
Productions to bring new talent to the forefront and help continue North
Carolina9s rich heritage in the performing arts.3
The series celebrates and helps preserve North Carolina9s musical and
performing heritage. The new Carolina Calling fills a void in entertainment
programming today according to Clay Smith, Arthur Smith9s son and Carolina
Calling9s executive producer.
3Opportunities used to exist for aspiring performers to show their
talent on television, but that9s not the case today. Across the nation, all
local network affiliated television stations have abandoned producing
original entertainment programming,3 said the younger Smith. 3The new
public television series Carolina Calling is unique, and it promises to
nurture and showcase deserving artists on a statewide basis.3
This weekly, hour-long musical variety show is packed with talent --
both well known and not so known. Culled from a series of Touchstone Energy
Carolina Calling Talent Searches held throughout the state, featured
performers on Carolina Calling bring diverse styles and sounds to the stage.
Talent Searches were held last fall and winter at Wingate University,
Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, Memorial Hall at UNC-Chapel
Hill, West Carteret High in Morehead City and the Bob Martin Agriculture
Center in Williamston.
Airing on UNC-TV, North Carolina9s only statewide public television
network and the only one with a signal that reaches all 100 of the state9s
counties, Carolina Calling is available to virtually all television viewers
throughout the state, as well as those in the adjacent states of Virginia,
South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. UNC-TV is also accessible on 260
cable systems throughout the state.
Carolina Calling is a cooperative project between UNC-TV,
Charlotte-based Smith Productions, North Carolina9s Touchstone Energy
cooperatives and the North Carolina Performing Arts Center. Major funding
of the initial series is provided by North Carolina9s Touchstone Energy
Cooperatives.
3We are excited to help give emerging North Carolina talent an
opportunity to bring their music to a statewide audience,3 said Tom Howe,
UNC-TV general manager. 3We also appreciate the commitment and partnership
of Touchstone Energy, without whose participation this project would not be
possible.3
The UNC Center for Public Television is North Carolina9s 11-station,
statewide television network, committed to using telecommunications wisely
and imaginatively to inform, educate, and enrich all North Carolinians.
North Carolina9s Touchstone Energy cooperatives proudly serve 2.4
million people in 93 of the state9s 100 counties.

In reply to the episodes including some dancing, I really enjoyed the thinking
on this one. These are a few that I can remember off hand.

1. Convicts at Large( I hate crowded ballrooms)
2. My Fair Ernest T.( Andy if you flew a quail through
this room, every woman in it would point!)
3. Class Reunion( The original Carl Benson
Wildcats? Everyone but the woman up front.
     That's Carl's mother.
4. The Guitar Player(go ahead kid keep lookin', you
got it, it's the key of "S") ---This is one that you
may have to think about dance being in it. But
remember Barney with his tongue half way out and
snapping his fingers while he dances to Jim
     Lindsey's guitar playing.

"Have I got the rhythm"?

I'm not a trained noticer like many here (I'm not even much of an UNtrained
noticer!) but last night I was watching "Aunt Bee and the Lecturer" and
noticed an "oddity." Professor Hubert St. John (I LOVE that name....) was
speaking to a "standing-room-only" crowd. And I looked at the people
standing in the back of the room and had to bless their hearts, because
those poor people had to stand for two hours while the good professor spoke
about South America. Couldn't Gomer have run for more chairs from
someplace? It just doesn't smack of small-town Southern hospitality to me.
(Even up here in YankeeLand we wouldn't sit comfortable in our chairs if
there were people standing up behind us.)

Hi friends!
I was watching the TAGS episode where Goober takes over Wallys gas station by
running a contest by giving away money. It was really sad to see Howard
McNears
failing health in that episode. It seemed like his speech was really
affected. I really loved his acting. Also, where in the world did George
Lindsey learn to say envelopes?
