TAGS friends,

I was reading online this morning the USA Today and saw an article that said
the 1st season of the TV show Friends was being released today. The article
said that complete (in full) seasons of TV shows was the latest craze in DVD
sales. It rerfrenced a website, www.tvshowsondvd.com, for you to go out and
look and new DVD's being released, but it also allows you to vote for the show
you would most like to see released on DVD. Maybe if we flood their servers
with "We want TAGS", we will soon be able to see our favorite show in full,
season by season on DVD. Keep your fingers crossed. Also, the first season of
I Love Lucy will be released 7/2/02.

And my favorite one-liner has to be "Sick as a dog, but having the time of my
life"

Hi all,
Cut scenes,,, thats a good un'. One imparticular comes to mind. I think I'm
right on this. In the Episode "A Medal for Opie" Opie and the other boys are
signing up for the race, and Barney begins to talk to Opie about training. I
noticed that you don't hear him refer to himself as Barney th rabbit, as they
"always" called him in school. I can't think of any other episode where this
would come into play, after all Barney knows a little bit of everything so it
wouldn't be hard to miss. After Andy questions Barney's title of Barney the
rabbit, they begin to leave the court house and Andy says " let's go Peter
Cotton Tail".
I also noticed in "Andy and Helen have Their Day", Barney makes a couple of
trips out into the woods and disturbes Andy and Helen. Once with Opie and
once with the TV repair man. I especially miss this scene because the TV
repair man is played by Howard Morris!.

I'm sure I can think of more if I put on my bucket!
God Bless,
Michael

Jim says, "Thanks", in advance for your answers. Sheila, from Branson<<<<

Shelia--I believe McBeevee does work for the telephone company, because in
the epilogue, he makes a call to the courthouse from the top of the pole
with his butt-set. This was a common practice of Telephone lineman. What
is unusual (Jim's right) is the fact that he climbs a tree instead of a
pole.

John Lormar played Tate Fletcher and John Lormer also played Parnell Rigsby
(Great Noticing!) He played one other role on the Griffith Show. Know which
one that was??? Hint--lettuce.
Don't know about his pedigree, though???

Hey Doug

I do believe that the last time I saw Opie the Birdman the scene where
Barn interprets bird whistles ("wheet wheet" - Here comes a cat) etc
were lopped off. I wuz waiting for it to chime right along with Barney
and it didn't happen. I love that scene.

>>>I have a question for the Mayberry experts. It's one I've had every time
I see the episodes where Miss Peggy sings (Down in the Valley) and Eleanor
sings (Away in a Manger) with Andy. Are they really singing or are the
voice-overs? Both voices sound similar to their talking voices.

Both ladies did their own singing. As far as I know, every actor who sung
on TAGS did their own singing (except for the time when Glenn Cripe sang
Barney's solo). Those who were fortunate enough to attend the 35th
anniversary reunion in Winston-Salem got to hear Joanna Moore sing "Down in
the Valley" in person.

Elinor Donahue was very nervous about having to sing on screen, but the end
result was terrific. When it came time to record "Away in a Manger," she
didn't want to sing in front of a crowd, so Andy arranged for the sound
stage to be cleared. As legend tells it, Andy got his guitar and the two of
them sat on the floor of the empty stage, and he asked if she'd like to
rehearse the song. The sound technician recorded the "rehearsal" and that's
what ended up being used in the episode (the strings were added later).

Mr. McBeeVee was never actually in a tree, it just seemed that way to Opie.
Opie was technically correct when he said Mr. McBeeVee was "in the
treetops" -- after all, the man WAS right up there in the middle of them.
It might have been clearer had he said "amidst" or "among," but in the
storyline, it was necessary that the adults thought he was imagining
everything, hence the unclear preposition.

I was watching the episode entitled "Rafe Hollister Sings" and I am almost
certain that Rafe curses in the show. After countless replays of the DVD,
this is what I understand the conversation to be. If anyone else has the DVD,
replay it and see what you think.

Rafe walks in the courthouse and Andy is sitting at the desk trying to figure
out which prisoner didn't get his suit of government clothes:

Andy: Can't figure it out.

Rafe: Figure what?

Andy: Oh, our records are off somethin' fierce. Ink musta got smudged.
Somebody we took in for moonshinin' April a year ago, address up on Willow
Creek Road...

Rafe: Moonshinin'? Last April, was it? H*ll, that's me, you took me in back
then.

Anybody have thoughts on this??

TAGS Fans,

Like all such lists, TV Guide's list of greatest shows was heavily
skewed toward recent hits, which isn't surprising. They could take the
same poll in five years and several of the shows on the list now will have
disappeared in favor of shows that were broadcast in the interim. They (or
maybe it was Entertainment Weekly) took the same poll about four years ago
and Barney Miller won for best all-time show. But some shows show up in
the top ten of the list in every poll, such as TAGS and "I Love Lucy" and
they will probably still be there on the next list. So, while I personally
would have voted TAGS at number 1, I'm excited it made it as high as it
did. When you think of how many shows come and go--some that are even on
for a long time--the fact that a show from 40 years ago is still thought of
so highly is really something special and something Harvey Bullock, the
other writers, Andy Griffith and the other actors, and everyone else
involved are to be congratulated for.

Not wanting to be negative...non of us want that here in Mayberry...I
thought I would respond to Doug Johnson's comments about the missing scenes
in TVLand by combining a couple of ideas: favorite one-liners that are
missing. So...here are three of my favorite one liners that I have noticed
that have been cut from the episode the last time I watched. He already
mentioned the favorite one from DOGS, DOGS, DOGS. Here are some others that
come to mind without having to even get under the bucket!

1) Barney's First Car--"You're a fine son Barn." Andy's response to the
septic tank gift that Barney gave his parents for their anniversary.

2) Opie the Bird Man-- "The next time I go tiger hunting, I'm taking my
tweezers!" (I might have messed up a word or two)

3) The Cow Thief (Not sure of actual title off the top of my head ...and the
line here is paraphrased)--"I remember the last time you had a hair-brained
idea...when you wanted to make me your Deputy." (I was waiting to cry the
other night, but the line never showed up!

I, too, am grateful for the tag endings, but I sure miss these classic
one-liners!!

Was watching TVLand's Batman marathon last night.
Forgot how classic those were. I spotted the lady who
presented Otis the town plaque for being a descendant
of Nathan Tibb's (that scene almost makes me cry).

Frank Gorshen (The Riddler) was incredible in his
part. I'll bet he could have made a great deputy on
TAGS.

Question(s): Was the incredibly lovely Joanna Moore
(Tatum O'Neil's mama) in 2, 3, or 4 episodes of TAGS?
She was by far the prettiest love interest of Andy,
(excluding both Mary's and Ellie). There was real
chemistry there (Madame Currie style). Any info on
why she was nixed and disappeared from Mayberry? Can
anyone list every girl Andy dated on TAGS, if it
hasn't already been done, yet?

I have to agree. I can think of two instances that make that vein in my neck
stick out right off the bat: First, in "Barney's New Car," when Barn and
Anj are waiting for Hubcaps Lesch to show up...the classic exchange about
Barn getting his parents a septic tank for their anniversary always gets cut
by TVLand. Second, in "The Cow Thief," when they're all at Tate Fletcher's
house and Anj tells everyone his theory. Mayor Stoner shoots it down and
leaves, telling Barney to come with him. Barney leaves, but then returns a
few minutes later. The part that got cut was the exchange between Andy and
Barn where Barn tells him that he's going to stick by Andy because Andy
fought to make Barney his deputy over a different mayor's objections (our
fat little mayor, perhaps?). I think that's one of the most wonderful
moments in the whole series, and I was disappointed that it was cut. I'm
sure there are other moments in that episode that could have been cut
instead, but the things I'd cut are probably someone else's favorite
moments!

I have seen a few questions into Thelma Lou's last name and family. In the

and Andy says that it's ok for him to take off his socks in front of the

Hey all,

Long time no post for me!

I want to commend Doug Johnson on bringing up the subject of !0cut scenes!1
from our favorite TAGS moments. WHAT A GREAT IDEA DOUG!! I feel that using
scenes that are cut as conversation starters is the ultimate way to combat
the edit happy forces over there at TV Land. We can preserve all those
special moments by making them part of our oral tradition.

My favorite scene which gets cut down all the time is the !0Leonard BLUSH!
LEONARD BLUSH!!1 scene. The TV people always cut out all the back and forth
between Andy and Barney as Andy keeps asking Barney to !0Turn Leonard Blush
back on!1 so when they cut to Barney exploding it does not make much sense.

Anyway, GREAT SUBJECT!!! What are some other cut moments?

Oh and how about the triple !0Nate Bracey, Nate Bracey, Nate Bracey !&!1

My thought was always that Mr. McBeevee wasn't actually in the trees, but on
telephone poles amongst the trees. Since there were trees all around the
poles and lines, Opie just said he was walking in the treetops.

With regard to scenes cut from TVLand episodes, I noticed one just the other

hair-brained, Barney recalls another time that folks said he had a
hairbrained idea -- that was when he wanted to hire Barney as his deputy.
