Margaret, That is our own Earle Hagen who has a long list of credits that
would take two or three digests to list them all! His autobiography "Memoirs
of a Famous Composer Nobody Ever Heard Of" is a fascinating look at Hollywood
and he has some great stories about working with Andy - and it's available
here at Weaver's!

I agree with Paul. It's fun to look for inconsistencies, bloopers, etc on
TAGS. After all, when you know the scenes and dialog by heart - you gotta
do SOMETHING productive. I call it "fine-tuning".

Yes, that's our Earle! "Harlem Nocturne" is probably his second-best known
tune, after The Andy Griffith Theme. He used it in the TAGS episode "Gomer
Pyle -- USMC" in the scene where Andy talks with Sgt. Carter.

BTW, "The Andy Griffith Theme" is the correct title of The Show's theme
song. It didn't come to be called "The Fishin' Hole" until later, when the
lyrics were penned by Everett Sloane (better known as Jubal Jubal Jubal
Foster).

Hey Paul - I would, as I am sure others on this list would love to read the
newspaper article. I think it is great that the Ft Worth Star picked-up on
the Mayberry theme. Please post it. Allan, you make him do it or take away
his 'Mr. Mayberry' title.

Thanks, Jim

Paul,
You are right on the money with this one. It is great fun to notice these
things, and one can do any of several things with this information. I like
to
know the editing and technical boo-boos and details because I think the whole
process is fascinating. I might then create my own Mayberry Mythology
about what I learn. Others might like to totally ignore the inconsistencies
and pretend they just aren't there.

Either way, if it is done with a Mayberry attitude, it can be great fun for
all
involved. The word you used here - criticize - is the key. It's the
difference
between being a Trained Noticer and a Grumpy Complainer. Now, if I don't
insist that everyone has to see these things the way I do, then Mayberry will
always be what Mayberry is - a place of peace and harmony.
My best to you and yours!

Another episode that mentioned bowling was a color
episode in which Emmett was going to Mt. Pilot to look
at a mink coat for his wife Martha but made up an
excuse that he was going bowling and picking up Andy
along the way.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The week of September 20-26 is a historically significant week for Mayberry
fans. On September 22, 1969 at 9:00 p.m. Andy Griffith and Aneta Corsaut
guested on the 'Mayberry R.F.D.' episode 'Andy's Baby.' At 10:00 p.m. Jim
Nabors appeared in the season opening 'Carol Burnett.' On Thursday, September
25, at 8:00 p.m. 'The Jim Nabors Hour' debuts with special guest Andy
Griffith and a cameo by Don Knotts. 'Andy of Mayberry' and 'Gomer Pyle USMC'
were still airing in the daytime. On a real small sideline note, Gene
Reynolds, who directed three first season episodes of TAGS, debuts his newly
created series, 'Room 222.'

been changed by divine intervention. Go to: www.guidepostsbooks.com to
find it. Andy's picture is on the cover along with Jimmy Stewart, Colin
Powell, Danny Thomas and others and the separate little testimonial
leaflet in mine was by Andy too!

Hello all,

Are any of the original sets still in existance? Like the courthouse
interior (did they rebuild it for Return To Mayberry?) If not, are there
blueprints available anywhere?

Just interested, thinking about trying to build some life size replicas or
at least get to see one in person.

I would appreciate any help.

Subject: 2 new Mayberry books

Hey to all! About a week ago a real friendly lady named Nicole contacted
me through my website. She was from Rutledge Hill Press and she wanted my
opinion on two new Mayberry books. So I got them in the mail yesterday
and they are nice, nice, nice! (just like Mary Grace!) One is called
"Act Like Somebody" and the other is "I'm Proud to Call You My Friend"
They were both written by the Head Goober Jim Clark and his partner Ken
Beck. They are cute little square hardbacks with about 100 pages; the
cover looks like an old-timey TV set with a TAGS scene on it..They are
basically made up from quotes from TAGS with credit given to the writer
of each quote. And they are jammed packed of 'colorized' pictures of the
gang. "Act Like Somebody" has quotes pertaining to parenting and "I'm
Proud o Call You My Friend" is about friendship. They are a must have
for any TAGS fan. I don't know if Weaver's is selling them yet but be
sure to get you some! In my humble opinion "Act Like Somebody" would
make a great Father's Day gift. And no, I ain't getting paid to say
this! LOL! But they really ARE sweet little books!

Yes indeed, that is Mayberry's Earle Hagen as its author.

Although I have all 249 uncut episodes on DVD, they are spread out over
50 DVD's. Within a few years, using the upcoming "blue laser"
technology, we will be able to get every episode on only 5 discs. Each
disc, if recorded on both sides will be capable of 26 hours of standard
recording. Now that's pretty cool.

It was good to see William Christopher (that rookie Mayberry doctor) and
Jamie Farr (that Mayberry Gypsy) on the MASH reunion show last night. They
are much more famous for their Father Mulkahey and Corp Klinger Roles on
M*A*S*H but we still revere them as Griffith show veterans. They both
appear to be doing very well. Also in the tribute session Everett Greenbaum
was named. Mr. Grennaum, of course, wrote many TAGS episodes, and teamed up
with our buddy Harvey Bullock on the Return to Mayberry movie.

Just saw the episode where Otis Campbell is found to be the descendant of
war hero Nathan Tibbs. Did my eyes deceive me, or was Joe Hamilton one of
the city officials in Mayor Pike's office? I always think of Joe for his
extra roles, in crowd scenes. He is there, cheering on Gomer, in Citizens
Arrest and is usually seen with his white hat on. When Barney is arresting
everyone in sight he pops his head in the courthouse to tell Barney there's
been a hit and run. (when Barney asks where, he responds..."down to the
baseball field"). So was that "Extra Joe" as the city official?

Thanks for all the comments on my "mother" compilation for Mother's day.

After I got home from lunch today, I turned on the television to try and find
something worth watching. The channel I had left it on was showing "Return To
Mayberry". The host of the movie was dressed up as Floyd the Barber. Looks
like it's going to be a Mayberry day for me. I just wish there was somewhere I
could buy a copy of the movie.

Subject: More Mayberry Videos Added to List

Hey Folks,

I've gone back through and added several more videos to the list of TAGS
tapes I posted for sale the other day. I've added several other tapes I
have as well as removing the tapes that had sold and I also lowered the
prices on some of the UAV tapes. I'm short on storage space and these
hafta go one way or another, so I'll listen to any reasonable offer ;-).

In addition I've got another offer for anyone on the list looking to get a
look at Mayberry R.F.D. Back several years ago I acquired all these
episodes on seven tapes as they had aired on TNT. Later on I edited out
all the commercials, which gave me two sets. Well last fall when TV Land
aired all the episodes as a Fandemonium Marathon I recorded them off it so
I don't need the TNT airings anymore. Therefore I'm going to offer those
two sets to all you WBMUTBB members on a first-come first serve
basis. Please visit the tape list at
http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/lig/p/a/palm5250/tagstapes.htm for
details on that as well.
