>>>Are any of the original sets still in existance? Like the courthouse
interior (did they rebuild it for Return To Mayberry?) If not, are there
blueprints available anywhere?

None of the sets are known to have survived, but it's remotely possible that
somebody saved some pieces (where they are now is anybody's guess). For
"Return to Mayberry," the courthouse interior was completely rebuilt, using
photos and video clips of the original as a guide.

There are no real blueprints available, but there are "fantasy" blueprints
in a book called "TV Sets" by Mark Bennett, available from Weaver's.

As far as props go, Don Knotts is reported to still have one of the
courthouse chairs (bronzed), and Jack Dodson was reported to have saved the
telephone that sat on Andy's desk. Wouldn't THAT be a great collectible?

The question posted by Bob Bravetti, is the answer the episode where Warren
is sleepwalking, Andy and Helen are in the kitchen and Aunt Bee calls Andy
several times to come to the Living Room. When they get there they see
Warren dancing (sleepwalking) with Aunt Bee.

Here's a repeat of a trivia question I came up with about five years ago.

In a town like Mayberry, the sheriff is not just a sheriff. He has to wear
a lot of different hats. How many different hats is Sheriff Andy Taylor
seen wearing in TAGS episodes? Unless I've missed one somewhere, there are
13 altogether. For the purposes of this quiz, anything designed to be worn
on the head is considered to be a hat.

When Barney decides to make a play for Ellie (to fight fire with fire since
Andy has called on Thelma Lou). He calls Floyd and is very demanding
("Whoever is in the chair, get rid of them") about the fact that he wants to
have "the works". Among things he mentions that he wants such a witch
hazel, it sounds like he says "toilet water". Is that what he says, and if
so, is that a slang term for cologne or After-shave? If it's true, that
could be an interesting bit of trivia...the only time "toilet" is mentioned
on the show???

When I read one of my TAGS-related books, I always find something
interesting to share, but usually don't remember by the time I get to
writing to the Digest, to share it. This time I remembered. Apologies to
those who've read this in Mayberry 101 (by Neal Brower). Mitch Jayne (one
of the Darling's) was commenting on the little 'introductory bits' at the
beginning of many episodes. Usually Andy and Barney are talking about
something that is not related to the major story of the episode. For
instance, when Ben Weaver forecloses on the Scobey's, in the opening scene
Barney sticks his ticket book in his hat, and He and Andy get into the
discussion about Juanita Beasley, his "trouble-check" calls, and the fact
that he (and his mother) don't like people messing with their hats. It's
classic! Here's what Mitch had to say about these opening dialogues.

"since the little introductory bits were part of each show, we usually got
to see these filmed. I had always loved the short introductory things.. I
realized that this was a supremely clever way to center a viewer who had
been elsewhere in TV land (not the station) and needed a chance to adjust to
Mayberry. These I think, were the keys to the time machine that Mayberry
was, and of course still is.

I agree with Mitch...don't those bits just set the mood for you, and make
you temporarily forget your troubles?

I don't like people messing with my hat, and my Mother is the same way
The Untrained Voice (with hat pulled down over my ears)

Another outstanding trivia game, Paul - I tip my hat to you! I'll get the
ball rolling with some hats I can remember Andy wearing.

1) Sheriff's cap - a regular bobbydazzler thanks to Malcom Merriweather

2) Stocking cap - worn while presiding over the marriage of Josh & Hannah to
end the Wakefield and Carter feud

3) Umpire's cap - part of his costume ("Uniform Aunt Bee. Uniform.")

4) Motorcycle helmet - "Don't wear my hat, Ange."

5) Fishing hat - complete with flies and hooks, thanks to Opie delivering a
proper hat and tie to look presentable for Inspector Case.

I'll have to guess on the next two and see if my memory serves me well...

6?) Fez - official hat of the Regal Order of the Golden Door to Good
Fellowship

7?) Straw hat - warn for the Barbershop Quartet

That's a start - I'm looking forward to seeing others post and finish the
list.

Dear Mayberry friends:
I am not sure if there is any connection between what TVLand shows in Canada
and what they show in the states. Just in case it is the same, I want to let
you know that they are having another "fandemonium" weekend this coming
weekend and so all day Saturday and Sunday there will be 2 episodes of TAGS
followed by Happy Days followed by 2 episodes of TAGS, etc. How I wish my VCR
would still record!! as it is, it only plays. Oh well, be thankful in all
things.
All the best to you and yours,
Miz Sallie

Hey All!

I am having to give up two or three tickets for
"Mayberry in the Midwest". My mother is very ill, and
some of my family is going to have to stay with her,
so I now have these tickets up for sale. If any of
you are interested just e-mail me and we'll work out
the details. The tickets are for Saturday night's
activities.

I was watching the episode the other night where
Barney thought Helen and Andy were getting married and
they all got together and redid Andy's room as a gift
to the couple. In the scene where everyone was in the
bedroom, there was obviously a balcony (double doors)
on one side of the room. Was this before or after
Briscoe "quick courted" Aunt Bee? If it was after,
where were those double doors in the scene where she
looks out at Briscoe while he is "serenading" her???

..what a dumb trick..Barney don't ever call me dumb
again....swell party...but a dumb trick.....

That's not the one I'm thinking of. Remember, I said Aunt Bee said
Andy's name at least 5 times in a row, maybe 6, I don't remember.

In an earlier post, someone mentioned about Jim "Gomer" Neighbors
appearing on the Carol Burnett Show. I tell you what, one of the funniest
moments in TV history was when Ol' Gome portrayed the David Carridine
character of "Kung Fu", spoofing it in "Kung Fool". When they were
doing the intro for this sketch, being all serious, and then
Jim Neighbors jumps in out of nowhere wearing a bald wig and a white karate
uniform hopping around barefoot! I lost it! I was on the living room floor
laughing with tears, not being able to breathe! If you've never seen this,
I highly recommend you finding a copy of this. No one in the sketch can
keep a
straight face when Gome is karate-chopping around! A definite Must-See !
