I want to chime in with thanks for Lesley's cool story. I emailed it to all
my friends and family who are not lucky enough to be TAGSRWC members. It
sounds like Andy was sweet on you :)

It ranks right up there with the story of a friend of mine who was working
at a JC Penney on the Outer Banks, when who should walk in but Johnny Cash.
Guess what he bought? Black Pajamas.

Remember what Helen said? I guess he'll just have to settle for frozen
dinners......So, I guess Andy and Opie ate frozen dinners after Helen and
Andy got married......Besides, Andy likes them!

>>>When Andy and Helen got married, Aunt Bee moved in with Sam and his son.
I wonder who did the cooking for Andy and Opie. After all Helen said in
another episode that she was a terrible cook, she couldn't even cook Andy's
favorite dish, a leg of lamb.

At the time Helen made that statement, she was very likely only a couple of
months out of college, so she had never needed to cook before. In the five
years between that time and her wedding, she had a lot of time to practice
in the kitchen. I'm sure Aunt Bee gave her lots of culinary advice along
the way.

We've got correct "questions" for the first two. Anybody want to take a
shot at the last three? The correct questions and answers are taken
directly from TAGS scripts.

A: That's a person that steals because he can't help it.
Q: What's a kleptomenerac?
(Andy and Barney in "Guest of Honor")

A: She's got some real long garters.
B: Socks? What's [Aunt Bee] want with socks?
(Andy and Barney viewing Bert's merchandise in "The Merchant of Mayberry")

$300 Bottom shelf, behind the Ipecac.
hint: Walker's drugstore

$400 You know darn well I was, Andy.
hint: military

$500 Blue -- green -- danger!
hint: an unusual sandwich

Have been watching a lot of the Leave it to Beaver
episodes lately, from '58 to '61, before The Beav's
voice changed and he got really "creepy" in
adolescence (like a certain unnamed redhead), while I
await TAGS #249 to finally roll into the B&W versions.
Besides seeing Floyd, Otis, and several other TAGS
alumni, I realized how great those early L.I.T.B.
episodes were. Like andy, Ward Cleaver was the
ultimate father. Both were strong, yet vulnerable and
introspective when it came to their children. They
both listened. Plus, Ward was a Navy Seabee, like I
was. It's a shame there aren't many fathers like that
still around. Hugh Beaumont was a class act, it's a
shame he had to pass away so early. Eddie Haskell
remains one of the all time great characters, as well.
Right up there with Bernard P.O.M. Fife, as an
unforgettable character.

Subject: Personal Encounters
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hey, Folks...

With the stories of personal encounters popping up, I thought I'd mention
mine, though it's not really a direct encounter. I wrote this in quite a
while ago, but it got lost when the list server was having problems -- so
I'll try'er again. Being a writer, I was asked to volunteer my abilities on
a fundraising musicale here in Southern California to raise money and
awareness for music in the schools. Dick Van Dyke graciously agreed to MC
the event, as well as perform with his Barber Shop Quartet "The Vantastics."
So I got to meet with him in the producer's living room for a couple of hours
on a Sunday afternoon. During that time, Mr. Van Dyke said he wanted to
perform the theme to "The Dick Van Dyke Show" with lyrics written by Morey
Amsterdam. So sitting there on the couch, he broke out in song, and I sat
there listening to him with the biggest grin. I couldn't believe I was there
with him in such a casual setting, and having him sing that. I mentioned to
him that it reminded me of the lyrics for the Andy Griffith Show, which were
also written by a cast member. Mr. Van Dyke smiled, and said, "You know, I
once told Andy that my theme song was my second favorite. His was my first.
I love that tune." I do, too, and that was one of the COOLEST conversations
I've ever had.

Greg in Simi Valley, California.

weeks of shows at a time. you will see that on august 31st. we will be back to
the good ole' black and whites!!! of course, they are skipping over many many
episodes this time around it appears starting from episode 4 through episode 26
in just under a week. not like the color episodes which seem to air in almost
complete order. oh well, we must be thankful.

Hey all,
Hope I ain't breakin no rules but I was talkin to my
TAGS friend at work today and we both agreed that
there couldn't have been that many "Color Versions" of
the show and that It's about time they start showing
th B&W's again. And if they refuse we could all go to
their headquaters and protest by sayin something like
"We will not sing We will not sing!" and somebody
might even find a still in one of the offices or
something...I don't know It's just a thought...My
apologys to those of you that prefer the color
version. I be seein ya,

Hey Everybody!

Does anyone know if a cardboard or "fake" squad car side was used when the
car was seen from the perspective of inside the courthouse, out through the
courthouse door?

I can not remember which episode, but I told my wife that when the door
opened for someone to walk out, the car looked one dimensional. Was I
seeing things, was there something wrong with my eye? I should ask Floyd,
He's a barber.

Hey Gang, I received an e-mail I'd like to share with you all. It does not
mention TAGS, but after giving it considerable thought, I believe it is in the
Mayberry spirit and TAGS could have been mentioned. So if you are in the
right age frame to remember some of the things included in the following, you
will understand and undoubtably have some of your own memories to include.I
know I did. So enjoy, and as Charlene said, "This 'un made me cry."
                Come Stroll With me...

Stroll with me...close your eyes...and go back before the
internet...before
bombings, aids, herpes, before semiautomatics and
crack...before SEGA or
            Super Nintendo...way back!

I'm talking about sitting on the curb, sitting on the
steps...about malt shops,
      hide-and-go-seek, Simon says and red-light-green-light.
Lunch boxes with a
thermos...chocolate milk, going home for lunch, penny candy
from the store,
hopscotch, butterscotch, skates with keys, jacks and Cracker
Jacks, hula
hoops and sunflower seeds, wax lips and mustaches, Mary
Jane's, saddle shoes and Coke bottles with the names of cities on the
bottom.

Remember when it took five minutes for the TV to warm up.
When nearly everyones's Mom was at home when the kids arrived
home from
               school.

When nobody owned a purebred dog. When a quarter was a
decent allowance.
When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny.

When your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces. When all
of your
teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair
done every day and wore high heels. Remember running through the sprinkler,
circle pins, bobby pins, Mickey Mouse Club, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Kukla,
Fran and Ollie, Dick Clark 's American Bandstand...all in black and white
and your Mom made you turn it off when a storm came.

When around the corner seemed far away and going downtown
seemed like going somewhere. Climbing trees, making forts, lemonade stands,
cops and robbers, cowboys and indians, staring at clouds, jumping on the
bed, pillow fights, ribbon candy, angel hair on the Christmas tree, white
gloves, walking to the movie theater, running till you were out of breath,
your first haircut, laughing so hard that you stomach hurt...remember that?

Not stepping on a crack or you'd break your mother's back,
paper chains at
Christmas, silhouettes of Lincoln and Washington, the smells
of school, of
paste and "Evening in Paris " perfume.

When you got your windshield cleaned, oiled checked and gas
pumped without
asking -all for free- every time. You didn't pay for air and
you got trading stamps to boot. When laundry detergent had free glasses,
dishes or towels hidden inside the box.

When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to
dinner to a real
restaurant with your parents. When the worst thing you could
do at school
was flunk a test or chew gum. The prom was in the gym or the
lunch room and you danced to a real orchestra. When they threatened to keep
kids back a grade if they failed - and they did it.

When being sent to the principal's office was nothing
compared to the fate
that awaited the student at home. Basically we were in fear
for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs
etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we
survived because their love was so much greater than the threat.

Remember when people went steady; and girls wore a class ring
with an inch
of wrapped adhesive tape so it would fit their finger. When
no one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the
car, in the ignition, and the car and house doors were never locked.

Remember playing baseball with no adults needing to enforce
the rules of the
game. And, with all our progress, don't you wish, that just
once you could slip
back in time and savor the slower pace...and share it with
the children of
               today?

So send this on to someone who can still remember The Lone
Ranger and Tonto, The Shadow Knows, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Trigger and
Buttermilk...As well as the sound of a real mower on Saturday morning, and
summers filled with bike rides, baseball games, bowling, visits to the
pool...and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar from the palm of you hand.

There, didn't that feel good? Just to lean back and say:
"Yeah, I
               remember"

Did anyone else notice that in the episode, "Goober Goes To Car Show", the last
scene where Andy and Goober were at the gas station in Raleigh. If you look
close you can see a Coors Beer Truck pass on the street. Now if I am not
mistaken, Coors Beer was not even sold east of the Mississippi until the early
1980s. Just thought it was interesting.
