Coors didn't come East until the early '80's (except as an import in some
locations). I have noticed this several times. Good Eyes! Also, I noticed
an alcohol reference recently that I did not remember hearing before. When
they are trying to figure out what to do with the $500 church bequest, Elmo
suggests a pool table so the men could have a tournament during their club
meetings. Then Emmett says "Yeh, the losers buy the beer."

Regarding Helen's cooking: on the episode Barney and the cave rescue Helen
bakes an apple crumb pie.

Hi,
I believe your correct, and if I am correct it is in the episode "A Medal for
Opie". After Opie signs up for the race Barney says he'll train him and then
he walks him out the door. I think it is this episode, however not positive.

I too watched this episode last night and the funny thing is, I didn't notice
the Coors truck, I noticed that Andy took one drink out of that bottle of
rootbeer and left it sitting on the garbage can!

Does anyone know if a cardboard or "fake" squad car side was used when the

courthouse door?
>>>

They sometimes used a"mockup" squad car (sort of a cardboard cutout, I
believe) for that type of shot. Mayberry is so real to us that it's hard to
grasp the fact that the courthouse exterior and interior were actually two
completely different places.

The courthouse exterior (along with the rest of Mayberry) was on the 40
Acres back lot. The courthouse interior scenes were filmed on a Desilu
soundstage, but it would have been inconvenient to bring the real car
indoors and position it "outside" the courthouse doors, so for quick shots
where the audience only gets a brief glimpse of the "street," the mockup car
was used.

I agree about getting back to the black and white episodes. The color episodes
are better than nothing, but the B&W's are where the real spirit of Mayberry is
seen.

I had Mayberry moments in Canada, near Lake Superior,
in the North Country. The service station attendant
pumped my gas, cleaned my windshield & mirrors &
offered to check my oil.

Is there any mention anywhere in Andy Griffith,
besides Opie going off to college or trade-school (to
be a butcher) about Opie growing up & moving away? I
don't get to see Mayberry RFD, so I don't know if it
was addressed there.

Andy married Helen, Aunt bee moved in with Sam, so did
Opie ever move on?

Hey all,

Since we're all sittin' on the front porch rememberin', my mind goes back to
when I was in elementary school. My 5 & 8 yr. old just started the school
year last week, and got me thinking. While some of the school scene is the
same, quite a bit has changed. One thing I miss seeing is the metal lunch
boxes. I could have died for a lunch box painted like a yellow school bus
with Disney characters! Remember those? The thermos fit in the top half. But
my mom bought me a a lunch box that was red plaid. RED PLAID!! I didn't
like it then, but I love it now and still have it. It holds our first-aid
supplies. A lunch box is about all we had to carry. There were no giant
backpacks. I'll forever remember the "school smell". What a collection of
scents! A combination of floor polish, paste, mimeograph ink, crayons,
pencil shavings in the sharpener, the teacher's perfume, and the stuff they
put on the floor when someone threw-up! (I really miss the mimeograph ink
smell, since now everything is from a copier or laser-printer.) An added
bonus came wafting from the cafeteria on "sloppy-joe day" (the only day I
"bought"-- for a quarter!). I liked the smell so much, I married a teacher!!
My wife no longer teaches, but I get a good whiff when I hug my kids after
school. Watching TAGS helps me remember all these wonderful things!

If she was just out of college, she must have gotten
her PhD! Helen was no young spring chicken when that
episode aired. If she was, then Andy was robbin' the
cradle! He was in his late 30's, and I guess that if
she wasn't 30 yet, she was just a year or so shy of
it. Barney's acting in that episode had me rolling on
the floor in laughter. That's also one of the few
times that Andy should have taken Barn's advice.

I remember that episode too....the car looked a cardboard cutout. It's
always hard for me to understand exactly how the filming was done. For
instance, when you open the Taylor front door from inside, the street out
front looks very fake...yet when you are on the "front porch" it appears
that what you are seeing inside the front door really is the living room.
Same is true for the Courthouse inside/outside scenes. Does anyone know
how this was done?

Hey Tags Members,
About Helen not being able to cook, what about the time she made
spaghetti for Andy and her Uncle, and Goober got the messages mixed up and
sent Andy to Howards Sprages house instead, after he had already eaten supper
for the night, And there was the time they borrowed Goobers truck, to go on a
picnic because Barney did something to the squad car to keep them from going.
She made fried chicken!

I figured someone would get these by now. Since they're still open, I'll give
them a try.

$300 Bottom shelf, behind the Ipecac.
Just guessing on this one but, What is "where the footpowder is located"-Ellie
said to Barney in Episode #24 (The New Doctor).

$400 You know darn well I was, Andy.
What is "You were in the Army weren't ya, Barn" (but he'd rather not talk
about it)-Andy talking to Barney in Episode #29 (Quiet Sam).

$500 Blue -- green -- danger!
What is "Warren (and his ESP) talking to Goober at the Diner trying to see the
danger that awaits Andy and Helen on their picnic to Myer's Lake" in Episode
#169 (A Warning from Warren)

How'd I do, Paul? How about a Double Jeapardy question?
