>>>Also, there are times when Andy's shoulder patch has a six pointed star,
but his badge has 5 points.
I think you've got that backwards. The actual badge has six points and the
star on the shoulder patch has five. For the record, the tiny star in the
middle of the badge has five points.
When Andy and Barney swear in temporary deputies they sometimes issue
five-pointed badges (as in "Guest of Honor"), and the State Police badges
have seven points (see "Manhunt").

The character of Sgt. Harvey Bullock was first introduced to the comic books in
the early '80s.

Was watching Twilight Zone the other night, and the
episode featured Everett Sloan, a.k.a. Jubal Foster,
as a man obsessed with a slot machine in Vegas. In
the end, end jumps out the window to his death (not
unlike the way the real Everett Sloane unfortunately
took his own life). From what I understand, he wrote
the lyrics to the whistling TAGS theme, "The Fishing
Hole".
A good point was brought up by a trained noticer about
Mayberry's dialects. The only ones with southern
"accents" were Goober, Gomer, Andy, Rafe, and several
others (though the south is large and has many
different dialects). I guess the rest of Mayberry's
inhabitants were transplants, or had grammar lessons
in Mayberry. But I thought Floyd and Clara were 5th
or 6th generation Mayberry-ians....or is it
Mayberry-ites?
Other shows are that way. There is only one actor on
"That 70's show" who has a true Wis-cahn-sin accent,
and Dennis Franz of NYPD Blue lives in NY, but has a
heavy Shi-cah-go accent, and no one on "Grounded for
life" has a N. New Jersey accent. Curious, curious.
Maybe the folks in Hollywood should have the actors
coached in dialects, to make the shows more authentic.
Kudos to TVLand for finally showing the classic TAGS
again.

Thanks, Paul. As soon as I read that, I could see and hear Gomer saying it
in my mind. Any theories on why others on the show didn't use "y'all"? I'm
assuming that a cast member wouldn't just insert a "y'all" if it wasn't in
the script (or, likewise, delete it).

Hello Friends, Neighbors Fellow Citizens of Mayberry, Honored Guests,
Ladies of the Women's Auxiliary I noticed a TAGS sighting that I want to
verify. A very famous Lucy Episode is the one where she advertises for
Vitameatavegamin. It is to Lucy fans, as the Pickle Story is to TAGS
watchers. The guy who keep coaching her appears to be Roger, from the
Esquire Club. Can anyone confirm this? It interesting also that she gets
"gassed" ala Barney in this same episode. Badge Trivia---I noticed in
watching an episode recently that Barney wore his badge near the center
of his shirt, right next to his tie, while Andy wore his right over the
left pocket, centered over the pocket. It almost looked like he
(Barney)was covering up a spot or something with the badge. Maybe it was
for unencumbered access to his bullet. Trained Noticers? Also, there are
times when Andy's shoulder patch has a six pointed star, but his badge
has 5 points. I enjoyed the explanations of inside (sound stage) and
outside (backlot)camera work/backdrops etc. No wonder the consistency
expert kept busy...just trying to make sure things flowed properly in a
given show. That may have also have been a reason we see Opie and Aunt
Bee in the same outfits so much?? (to keep consistency simpler) No
Coffee, Tea, Punch, Soda, Pop, Coke, Sodie, er Soda Pop for me Thank YEW!
The Untrained Voice
Ross Elliott, who played the director in "Lucy Does a TV Commercial" was,
in fact, Tom Wilson in "The Clubmen". He also appeared in "Taylors in
Hollywood". Lucy watchers will also remember him in several episodes when
the Ricardos were in Hollywood. Coincidence?
Also, Dick Van Dyke Show fans might remember Mr. Elliott as Dr. Nevins in
the classic "Uhny Uftz" episode.
Fun facts known by few: Mr. Elliott began his acting career with Orson
Welles' Mercury Theater, where he performed in Welles' famed radio
program "War of the Worlds."
BTW, I know Aunt Bee's kerosine pickles were potent, but I don't recall
Barney getting gassed in that episode.
"Jubal. Jubal, Jubal, Juuuuubal."
Best wishes to you and yours,
Johnny Paul

Hey to anybody that's bothered by the "Yankee" and "Southerner" stuff.....
Please keep in mind that folks are just having fun here and their is no
harm meant. I'm 100% sure that folks here in south are just kidding our
northern (or western) friends. I hope everybody will agree that it's
all been in fun and no real hurt was intended.
Besides....y'all is the correct spellin'.....I write in "southern" a
lot... I'm a gonna hush up now. Just try to keep your comments nice and
lets be sure we don't get into a "Battle of Mayberry" here in our corner
of Mayberry.

I've just posted some pictures of All Souls Church of Scott, Arkansas USA.
You can see them at www.englandfbc.org/mmm.html.
Even though I'm a Southern Baptist pastor, I thinks it's kind of appropriate
that it's an interdenominational church. I'd like to think that the TAGS
church isn't a certain "brand name" but representative of us all.
