Did you ever catch the TV Land promo that had "Cyber Barney" sweeping the
courthouse, walking Thelma Lou to church, etc? One of my all time favorites.

Ernest T. Bass made a lot of threats. " I'm going to get you, and you, and you,
and I am going to get that sheriff too". This was in reference to not being
able to join the army. He also made threats to Malcom Meriweather for being
Irish.

On each video tape there is a break-off tab that prevents a tape from
being recorded on again. On every tape I plan to keep, and the Mayberry

happened to you tape.

Was Opie born in Mayberry? Was Opie born in Mayberry hospital or at home?
What age was Opie when Mayberry RFD began?

Some killing references:
Barn: If only somebody would kill someone.......I don't mean anybody we
know......Well, if there was these two strangers and one was gonna kill the
other anyway, he might as well do it here.......Ange: Maybe we ought to put
an ad in the paper....
Also, Barney thought Luke was coming to town to gun Andy down for revenge,
and Barney told Andy "You could've killed him but you didn't"
Then there was the episode where Barney yelled at Otis "Back you savage
killer,".....And Otis replied "You're right! I am a killer. I just killed a
whole pint...."

I figured that Andy knows everybody (and every car) in town. Maybe nobody
in Mayberry
had a hitch unless they had a trailer. But you're right, it is kind of
strange. Actually, Andy
seems to guess right on lots of strange issues. Who would've guessed that
a cow thief
was putting shoes on a cow?
Answer: As you may recall, the detective from Raleigh deduced from the
moulage that the robbery was the work of a three-man gang. Andy noticed
that they didn't find the hoofprints of the cow. Since it would be unlikely
that 3 men could carry a cow very far, Andy realized that someone must have
put shoes on the cow.
Now, if someone was to try that on a mean old bull.....

According to the news today, one in 3 high school students tested
could not find the Pacific Ocean on a map. While I realize this is serious
news (seriously sad), my first thought was that even Ernest T. can find the
Pacific Ocean! That's bad when you test lower than Ernest T.

Raleigh: Barney's Town
By DENNIS ROGERS, Staff Writer
Raleigh has never been good to folks from Mayberry. When you think about it,
and I do, about the only Mayberryite who ever had a real good time in the
Capital City was Barney Fife.
That's why it is curious that the folks at TV Land would choose Raleigh as
the site of a statue honoring Mayberry's Sheriff Andy Taylor and his son,
Opie.
There hasn't been this much excitement in Mayberry since the gold truck came
through town. Well, there was that story about Myra Koontz that went around,
but this is big, real big.
Aw, "big" ain't the word for it.
I don't want to make a big moulage about this, but if there is to be a
Mayberryite chiseled in stone in the city known as "The Concrete Jungle," it
ought to be Barney Fife.
No man loved the corner room at the Y more than ol' Barn. It was where he
stayed when he came to town, and it was go, go, go from the minute he got
here. Sometimes he'd have so much fun playing Skeeball at the arcade that
his head wouldn't hit the pillow until 11:15 p.m. And the Y's breakfast
special -- three hot cakes, two strips of bacon, one egg any style, juice
and coffee, all for 35 cents -- couldn't be beat.
Barney loved Raleigh's art scene. On one trip he caught "that Italian
picture that we read about in the paper, 'Bread, Love and Beans,' and it was
plenty risque, let me tell you."
And when Barney left Mayberry, it was to the Raleigh Police Department he
came to take over the fingerprint files, N through R. Crazy Gun Barney did
such a good job he was promoted to M through R.
Barney, you beat everything, you know that?
But Andy never had much fun in Raleigh. If it wasn't the snobs at the
Esquire Club, it was his rich girlfriend Peggy trying to get him to eat
escargot, to which Andy politely said, "I believe I'll let the snails go
by." He was so upset he actually drank a beer in public.
Then there was that ugly sunburn incident at the home of the lady lawyer,
but Helen Crump is still pretty ticked about that, so we'd better let it go
by, too.
I believe Opie only made one trip to Raleigh, when everybody came to the
auto show with Goober. I'm not saying he's not worthy of commemoration in
bronze, especially since he grew up to be one of the richest, best and most
powerful directors and producers in Hollywood, but it does smack of sucking
up.
Let's face it -- Barney was more important to the show than Opie. Don't get
me wrong, we love Opie (and often rub his head for luck), but let's be
honest: Life was never the same in Mayberry after Barney moved in with Ma
Parker and the boys in Raleigh. True, nobody shot holes in the courthouse
floor once he left, but his replacement -- the deputy whose name is never
spoken aloud in Mayberry -- almost tanked the show.
That TV Land wants to honor our beloved sheriff and his little red-headed
boy is great. But would it break the bank to redesign the statue to include
Raleigh's primary link to Mayberry, Barney the Beast? I can see it now, Andy
looking wise, Barney with a hand on his "Blue Steel Baby" and Opie between
them, looking adorable.
10-4, over and out.

"Andy Griffith: A Retrospective" on 11/24 at 9:00pm, and the E!
Entertainment channel will air "Andy of Mayberry: The E! True Hollywood

either of those specials!
Also on another note I'm still searching for someone in the Akron, Ohio

local program off of Time Warner Cable for me coming up on 11/30. If you
live in the area and can help please let me know.

The one quote that immediately comes to mind is in "Dinner at Eight"
when Andy tells Goober "I'm going to go have my third spaghetti dinner,
and when I get back, I'm gonna kill you." (or something to that effect.

Hey All,
We noticed that Allan Melvin, who played Clyde Plaunt in "Howard's Main Event"
(was on last night) - and other episodes, was also one of Sgt Carter's good
friends, Sergeant Hacker in "Gomer Pyle USMC" - and also played Sam the
Butcher in "The Brady Bunch". Other TAGS episodes Allan was in were "Jail
Break" where he played a nameless crook; Detective Bardolli in "Andy and
Barney in the Big City"; one of the bullies, Neil in "Lawman Barney"; Jake in
"Barney's First Car"; the Recruiting Sergeant in "Ernest T. Bass Joins the
Army"; a convict in "Andy's Vacation"; and Fred Plummer in "Barney's Uniform".
Did some research and found:
>From his appearances in the roles mentioned above, Allan Melvin has proved to
be one of the better known visitors to Mayberry. Allan Melvin was born on
February 18, during the Depression years in Kansas City, Missouri. In order to
pursue his career in acting, he moved to New York City. Today, he resides in
Los Angeles. His familiar face and voice are known to anyone who has watched
TV since the 1950's. He was regularly featured in the following TV shows :
>From 1955 - 1959, he was Corporal Henshaw on The Phil Silvers Show ( a.k.a. -
Sergeant Bilko );
Sergeant Charlie Hacker on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., from 1965 - 1969.
He was frequently seen as Sam Franklin, the butcher, on the popular series,
The Brady Bunch, from 1969 - 1974.
From 1973 - 1983, he was often seen as Archie Bunker's pal, Barney Hefner, on
All In The Family, and later, Archie Bunker's Place.
Many of the cartoon characters that Allan Melvin gave life to by providing
their voice. Some of these characters include : Magilla Gorilla, Sergeant
Snorkel, Bumbler, Barney Google and Bristol Hound.

I wanted to share how much fun I am having with a project I created for my
real-life job as executive director of First Nightb Mobile, in Mobile,
Alabama.
If you're not familiar with "First Night," First Nightb is a New Year's Eve
Celebration of the Arts. There are more than 200 First Nightb organizations
around the world. (www.firstnightintl.org) Our website address is:
www.firstnightmobile.org
Each year, First Night Mobile presents a project that will educate our
community about a certain art form in which local artists are involved. That
also helps encourage those local artists and supports their hard work and
talent.
This year, I chose bluegrass music for our project. (It gives me the
opportunity to hear and sing "Dooley"almost anytime I want.) We have had
several groups conduct workshops but the next workshop will be "extry good!"
I invited Rodney Dillard to participate in our project.
Rodney and another member of the Dillards along with "The Dog River Boys" (a
talkative bunch of local boys that play bluegrass) will perform workshops for
3 local schools as well as a public performance on December 5, 2002 at 7:00
p.m. at the Colonial Mall Bel Air. So come over and sit a spell if you are in
the area!
Lots of luck to you and yours!
