>>Hey everybody. I Seem to remember an episode when Luke Comstock was coming
to
town to give Andy a shotgun for a gift and Barney thought he was coming to
gun
Andy down for revenge. Barney said that instead of shooting him in the leg
that
he could have "Killed" him. Enough of this, Mayberry is a HAPPY PLACE!!!<<<

Sorry "Jim and Thea", I already 10-4ed ya, on that one
----
Did you notice that 5 of us came up with the same exact quote in that one
Digest!
I wonder what causes that?
----
>>Hey, what games or sports do we remember being played on the show?
Checkers in the courthouse.
The baseball game where Andy umpired.
Football, a couple of times for Opie.
Jump rope. A Barney sobriety test.
Opie's 50 yard dash.
Cards with Gentleman Dan.
Cards at the Golden Door to Good Fellowship lodge.
Howard's 300 game in bowling.
Archery when Andy takes the boys camping.
Andy skeet shooting. Come on folks, what else?<<<<

Well Dan you'll need to be a little more specific with your "cards"
Andy Barney Helen and Thelma Lou played Bridge "six can't play bridge
Goober"
Barney was ready to play high stakes poker at the Mayberry Hotel.
And then there's Run Sheep Run, and all those kid games that Barney played
Don't forget "Jacks" that the guy in the truck offered to play Barney

But Dan you have once again exposed the great void of Mayberry sports and
that is Basketball, that is only mentioned as a gift, and the fact that
Clara thought she was a good dribbler. We never see that first hoop.

For a look at what might have been, see Basketball Regional or Bust,

Is eating a pan of cashew fudge at Thelma Lou's considered a sport?

I saw a reference today about the fake phone call Barney is making. When it
rings in Barney's hand, Andy says "You wanna get that, you're closer?" I
use that all the time at work. I'll be standing in someone's office and the
phone will ring at their desk. I'll say "You wanna get that, you're
closer." Nobody ever gets it. They just look at me like I'm
crazy.........and they're probably right.

>>I wonder why they chose Raleigh??<<

A couple of reasons come to mind:

1) Raleigh is mentioned in the show all the time. People can find
Raleigh on a map, Mayberry is fictional although "we" know what town
it's based on.

B) Raleigh has a bigger population and the statue will be seen by more
people on a regular basis

3) Raleigh probably has a bigger budget to promote tourism in NC.

D) To celebrate Sir Walter Raleigh Day

I think the bigger question is why Barney and Aunt Bee aren't included

Hey guys,
In this era of budget cuts for small towns, there is a quote from Barney that I
am dying to use but am not sure of the actual words. Here's what I think he
says. "Boy, isn't that the way it goes. Police Departments are the most
underfunded in the country but its 'Thank you Johnny Shafto' when the bullets
start coming." Would someone please post the accurate quote? Also, what does
he mean by Johnny Shafto? Thank yew and yew and yew.
Carol
