>>>What's the name of the song that Barney sings for Eleanora Poultice? (The
one with all the "tra-la-las" in it.) It's one of those things that's been
preyin' on my mind.

It's a famous madrigal entitled "Now is the Month of Maying" by Christopher
Morley (1557-1603). Garrison Keillor did a humorous version of it a few
years ago which he called "Winter Madrigal."

Oops, I should have said THOMAS Morley wrote "Now is the Month of Maying,"
not Christopher Morley. Thomas was the English composer, Christopher was an
American author and editor.

Saw a Gunsmoke episode yesterday and who should appear. Non other than
Goober as a gunslinger and Martha Clark's brother the insurance salesman.
Folks from Mayberry sure do have diversified backgrounds.

Mr. Crawford had coloured water in his bottles of perfume. Ellie Walker had
actual perfume in her bottles. Remember Andy getting sprayed with "Midnight
Madness"?
That is one of my favourite episodes, when Frankie becomes Frances. :)

i 'preciate that paul, i really do. now i can go home to my wife and impress
her with my vast knowledge of mayberry's trivial trivialities! (she's the one
who keeps asking me about it. :-) i sure hope thelma lou doesn't get wind of
this!!!
Juanita, Juanita, lovely dear Juanit,
From your head down to your feet, there's nothing half so sweet.
Oh, there are things of wonder of which men like to sing,
There are pretty sunsets, and birds upon the wing,
But of the joys of nature, none truly can compare
With Juanita, Juanita, she of beauty beyond compare.
Juanita, Juanita, lovely dear Juanit.
From your head down to your feet,
There's nothing half so sweet.

This whole bit was inspired by one of Andy's old comedy records entitled
"Love Poems: To the Lovely Juanita Beasley." They even kept the same name!

I don't get TV Land either, but the special I saw was on Nick at Nite. It
consisted of the special that aired on network TV around 1993, the one where
the men sing the Maybery High song at the end of the show, wearing their
letterman jackets. Then there were two epidsodes of TAGS.

Subject: Mayberry on Maui
Date: Fri, 6 Dec 2002 13:11:24 -0500

I just returned from a nice vacation in Maui, Hawaii and had a very pleasant
Mayberry experience at a show I went to called "Warren and Annabelles."
Warren Gibson performs a fantastic slight of hand magic show that has a nice
Mayberry touch as part of the entertainment. He challenged the audience with
some TAGS trivia and was surprised that someone knew the answer to his
question "Name the diner where Juanita worked." He actually put the magic on
hold to chat with me and pulled out his Mayberry Trivia game and books he had
backstage. It was an unexpected, but very nice surprise to find another TAGS
fan on the island and we had a nice visit after the show.

If anyone has the opportunity to go to Maui, I would highly recommend seeing
his show. It is very entertaining and you'll be supporting a fellow Mayberry
fan. His website is http://www.hawaiimagic.com/ if you'd like to know more.

Aloha,
Jeff

Hi All,
I got a bit of trivia that I thunked up all by myself.
here it goes.

Can anybody name all the times that Barney's gun has accidentally gone off,
but Andy hasn't taken it off of him?
I can think of three, can anyone name them and come up with any more?
God Bless Mayberry

The song you are refering to is "Now Is The Month Of May"
Actually, it ends with fa-la-la's, not tra-la-la's. The episode is #116, The
Song Festers".

The person who sang "The Star Bangled Banner" at the
County Insecticide Convention was none other than Leonard Blush. He just
walked in off the street one day at Ms. Poultice's and two years later he sang
at this convention.
Of course, Leonard moved on to the big time in radio. He
does all the vocals on "The Ethel Paige Organ Recitals" on
station WLRB, Mount Pilot, the third Tuesday of every month.

Jim

"According to Ms. Poultice, I'm just a great big bundle of singing talent".

Subject: TAGS specials and Mayberry moments

Actually, there were two TAGS specials that aired recently. One was the
one where they sing the Mayberry High song at the end. It aired on Nick
at Nite. The other aired on TV Land. I have both of them saved on my
PVR. If anyone would like copies (with commercials), please e-mail me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] If you will send me the blank tapes and enough
postage to return the tapes to you, I will make the copies. I don't
currently have "Return to Mayberry" saved, but I would be willing to save
it and make copies of it the next time it airs, if someone will let me
know when it will be on. I had two Mayberry moments this week. The first
happened yesterday when I was driving to work. I saw a dog in the street
as I was passing by and I decided to go back and try to get it out of the
street, so I made a U-turn. As I was making the U-turn, I was thinking
to myself "Citizens arrest!, citizens arrest!". I sure am glad Barney
wasn't on my street yesterday. The second Mayberry moment was this
morning at work. I was acting supervisor and there was a problem that
needed to be handled. I found someone to handle the problem, but by that
time, the person who had the problem could not be found. I was telling
my co-worker that it seemed there was no longer a problem and not to
worry about it unless the problem resurfaced. I said, "We won't worry
about it then. If there is still a problem, someone will let us know.
You don't have to look for a crisis. A crisis will find you."
Immediately after I said it, I realized that I subconsciously paraphrased
Dud Wash's quote about Ernest T. Bass. "He's a pestilence and a
pestilence will find you." I often intentionally quote TAGS in everyday
situations, but I think that this is the first time that I did it without
realizing it until after the fact. Mary Grace Gossage"You see, there's
two sets of laws. One for the police and one for the ordinary citizens."

Allan, I seem to have misplaced your e-mail address, so I am posting this
to the digest in the hope of getting a response from you. I have not
received a digest since Wednesday 12/4/02. I have been keeping up by
using the archives and have noticed that other people are responding to
each other, which leads me to believe that it is not a general problem
like the last time I wasn't getting digests. I sure hate opening my
mailbox and finding no digest. (I think I must be one of those
compelsion nuts. Some have the hand washing complesion, some have the
hair cutting compelsion, I have the digest reading compelsion.) Let me
know what needs to be done to correct this. Mary Grace Gossage"I want
to put this $2.00 right on the horsie's nose."

Subject: Ed Sawyer?
Date: Fri, 6 Dec 2002 23:56:56 -0600

Thanks for the info about the special. I think I saw that a long time ago.

Here is a question that probably does not have an answer.

I just saw the episode today of "Stranger in town" episode # 10. At the end
of the episode is seems like Ed Sawyer (the stranger) fits into Mayberry and
even buys the Filling Station. However...do we ever see him again? Is it
just one of the inconsistencies that we have with other issues, like a
different Floyd and Barney being Andy's cousin?

Anyone have any insight....or maybe creative ideas about Ed Sawyer?

Everyone have a great day!

josh
