>>> ... I could have sworn Barney says that the guy purchased the arsenic on
Tuesday, May 22. Andy says "We gottem now", then Barney says "...he was
buried on Friday, May 26th".
The actual dates given in the episode are Tuesday, May 4th and Friday May
7th, 1952. You're right about the days being mixed up, though. May 4th,
1952 was actually a Sunday; the 7th was a Wednesday.
The writers didn't figure anybody would ever notice this (or even care --
but us trivia nuts DO notice!) Another one that sticks out in my mind is in
"Andy on Trial." Near the beginning of the episode, Andy reminds Mr.
Jackson that he had promised to appear on the 20th, adding "The 20th was
last Wednesday, and you didn't come." This episode aired in April of 1962,
but working backward from that date, the most recent month in which the 20th
fell on a Wednesday was December, 1961.
Of course, there's no reason to think the all of the events we see on the
screen happened on the exact date that the episode originally aired. Many
stories cover several days, or even weeks ("Opie the Birdman," for example).

In some communities folks call each other cousin sometimes as a term of
endearment as they figure they're related somewhere up the line from Noah
or Adam and Eve if you want to get down to the real nitty-gritty!
Merry Christmas from Aunt Bee of Orlando and her beloved who is doing
well on radiation and chemo so far!!!

My favorite inconsistency is the tomato splat pattern on Otis' white shirt
when Barney throws a tomato at him. From one angle it is a different splat
pattern that from another angle and in the episode they go back and forth
and back and forth. I guess they had to film this scene more than once.
It's hard to get an identical splat pattern. "I've heard just about enough
about that tomato!" "There's only 2 kinds of cops, the quick and the dead!"

Did y'all all get over to hear the Chorale do their Christmas program last
night? It was extry good, especially Gomer's solo. You know John Masters
sent all the way to New York for those arrangements. But I'm sort of glad
it is finally behind us. John has been tight as a drum for the last two
weeks. You know John, he's always convinced the concert is going to flop on
its face and damage his good name (he has sort of reputation in this part of
the state), but it always comes off as a roaring success. And John simmers
down until the Easter pageant.
John said to remind everybody that with the 30th being a 5th Sunday, that it
will be Men's day in the choir. (I sure hope he doesn't make us sing 14A
again this time.)

Dirty me, Dirty me, I'm disgusted with myself. The other night there was a
movie on TCM starring Andy Griffith. The movie "A Face in the Crowd" was made
in 1957. Curiosity overwhelmed me so I watched it. I think Andy did an
outstandin' job of acting in that movie. I thought it was an Oscar worthy
performance. However, it scared me silly to see Andy showing a dark side. I
couldn't get it out of my mind. It did make me realize what an amazing talent
Andy Griffith has, but this is one case where I prefer seeing butterflies to
bats!
I eagerly watched the manhunt episode on TVLand so's I could see Barney
frisking his mother. Wouldn't you know it, that part was edited out?
Regarding Jim Lindsey... you mean he wasn't really playing the guitar? I
wondered why, with such musical talent, he ended up playing Sheriff Roscoe on
the Dukes of Hazzard. Really? He wasn't playing the guitar? I'm
disappointed. Are you sure he wasn't playing the guitar?

How about Ben Weaver in the Christmas episode? Starts out naughty --
stealing a bench, even! -- then gets into the Christmas spirit and turns
nice.
Also Naughty:
Madeline Grayson for tricking Floyd into thinking she was a wealthy
socialite, just to bilk him.
The escaped convict in "Barney Gets His Man:" he really wanted to hurt ol'
Barn!
Bailey's bad boy (Bill Bixby)
And the naughtiest of 'em all: ERNEST T. BASS! Rock throwin', wife
stealin', carryin' on, etc. I bet he'd actually LIKE a lump of coal from
Santa, 'cause he could throw it!
