Anyone else notice the similarities between TAGS and "Leave It To Beaver?"
One was set in Mayberry - one in Mayfield. Both Opie and the Beaver seemed to
have the same teacher every year, at least through elementary school - Miss
Crump and Miss Landers, respectively. Both shows had strong moral and family
values, and usually a good lesson in each episode. In the 80's there were
reunion shows for both -
"Still the Beaver" in 1983 and "Return to Mayberry" in 1986. Opie and the
Beaver seemed to have this thing about public servants - Beaver often hung out
with Gus at the fire station and Opie was always hanging out at the court house
with the sheriff. And speaking of Gus, he was played by Burt Mustin, who was
Jud on TAGS. And let's not forget Doris Packer, Mayberry's own Mrs. Wiley,
following her previous life as Beaver's school pricipal, Mrs. Rayburn. What
else and whom else am I missing?
