Hey Friends,

Boy it has been a long time since I last posted here in our little corner of
the world. Hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for Mayberry Days in
Mt. Airy. I have had a busy Spring and Summer and looking forward to Sept. and
all that it brings. I enjoy so much reading each day the comments and such
that are posted. We have some of the most creative and inventive people on the
web on this site. You should be mighty proud of yourselves. Allan Newsome is
a genius, no question about it, and I look forward to performing with him as
often as possible as well as with the other tribute artists we have who love
TAGS.

The reason for my posting is that I was in northern Illinois last week at the
Winnebago county fair and on Friday morning Patty and I took a little side trip
to Roscoe, Il to the Historic Auto Attractions museum. If you are in that area
at any time you should go. The have limousines from U.S. Grant to Eisenhower.
Nixon and FDR automobiles. They have a Kennedy assassination area with all
kinds of items from the JFK collection. But the big deal for me was that we
heard that they had a Mayberry Squad car on display. We went through the whole
museum and near the end, there it was. We started to look around and realized
that it was the same squad car that was owned by Hank Gerdes the former mayor
of Amboy, Il who had me there in his town from 94 through 97 at depot days.
The interesting thing, however, was that he had this car at the Squad Car
reunion at Bob Shibes in Ohio in July of '93 and George Lindsay, Jeannie
Carson, Howard Morris, Betty Lynn and I signed the outside of it. There it was
just the way I remembered it. All signatures were visible and it almost
brought me to tears. These special people who have been so kind to me and all
the other tributes, some still with us and some gone to their rewards but all
of them stars not only for their work on TAGS but for their work with all the
fans over the years.

If you get a chance you should go to this museum. Maybe on your way to the Bed
and Breakfast up in Wisconsin.
