Greetings Fellow Mayberrians, I have always believed that our "Mr. Schwamp" (so they say) was an undercover agent for either 1) the Federal government or 2) the Mayberry Sheriff's Dept. 3) or the Ladies Garden Club. He is omnipresent and making seemingly casual but highly detailed observations on many occasions. (Remember MUM's the word, silence is my game, click a lock....where'd Aunt Bee get that!?!) Remember his expert handling of the rock at Mrs. Wiley's party? Notice him at the Garden Club meeting trying not to attract attention by sitting in the background? I don't think that rug could be anything but a frumpy disguise meant to throw off suspicions!!! Just watch how he moves (like a cat), observe his low key yet ever-ready physical prowess (like when he sits on the bench in front of the courthouse) ready to spring up at any moment. Think about it.
I think possibly Andy could enjoy the limelight and be titled "Sheriff Without A Gun" just because there was in fact a very stealth "Schwamp With a Toupee". For that, I will always be grateful.
